Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

The suite is a newly renovated, tastefully decorated, one bedroom basement suite, in a 1927 character home. Complete with all modern appliances, as well as some antiques added to enhance its charm. The ceiling is 6 '4" ( 1.93M) so if you play basketball this may not be a good match for you. Very centrally located on a quiet street, 2 blocks from the seawall and marina, walking distance to DT shopping, restaurants, pubs, Art Gallery, Port Theater, etc. 1 block to bus stop, 2 min. drive to ferry.

The location of this place couldn't be better for exploring the Island and especially for mountain biking (hosts were very accommodating with letting us store/charge our ebikes in their garage during our visit). Very easy access to everything North and South of Nanaimo as well as the city itself. The apartment is very peaceful with your own private garden/sitting area. While Nash and Louise are delightful hosts the real star of this property is Ollie, the most well behaved dog you will ever meet. Ollie greeted us upon our arrival and checked in most mornings to make sure we were well taken care of. Be sure to get Nash and Louise's restaurant recommendations.

Matt’s place has a stunning view! The kitchen was beautiful and well equipped. The living room and kitchen both had a view of the water. The deck had patio furniture that was very comfortable. I sat out both mornings, drank my coffee and read my book. It was beautiful! All three bedrooms were upstairs. One thing to note is that there is a lot of stairs and there are people living below. It was easy to find. They have specific parking for two cars for their guests.

Laurie’s place is immaculate. Lots of wonderful touches to make you feel welcomed and appreciated. We really appreciated the thoughtfulness that she had put into thinking what visitors may need. A great space for our family of 4 to take a quick stop on our way through Vancouver Island. Everything is high quality, from comfy beds and top fixings and fixtures. We could not of wished for more. A great stay and a wonderful host.

“Oceanfront Delight”- Sunset Beach Oceanfront Home

The best location on the island and a very supportive host. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. We loved walking down to water right from the property and discover tide pools. We saw 5-12 eagles every day, seals and even a river otter. It was easy to get to places on the island like shops and restaurants, even though we used kitchen for many of our meals, it had everything we needed. Park allowed us to bring our own roll up mat for an extra guest and provided extra pillows and chairs.
