Komaba Lodge is truly a unique and charming cabin. It felt like an attraction in itself from the moment we arrived. While I came across some reviews mentioning that it felt small, I honestly feel otherwise. With four bedrooms and a spacious living and dining area, it comfortably accommodated our group of 6. The covered courtyard was a lovely spot for a peaceful morning coffee. The kitchen is excellent—well-equipped and easy to use. We had everything we needed to prepare our dinner without any hassle. The entire cabin is clean. The white linens were crisp and clean, and the muslin material was incredibly comfortable, we all slept so well. For the benefit of other travelers, we think it’s more convenient to have a car when staying here, as it makes getting around much easier.

[Tokachi] Pine Bangalow, a quiet campsite deep in the mountains

It was delightful to spend a few nights at Conifer with Mr Ryota and his wife, who are very committed and kind hosts with two lovely children. This was one of the most accessible cabins in Hokkaido that allowed me to arrive by public transport and arrange for the host to pick me up from Mikage or Memuro station for a reasonable fee. You can book a Sapporo-Obihiro New Star bus in advance at Japan Bus Online. The stream next to the cabin has very fresh water, a big bonus for those who prefer collecting water from natural sources to drink with a portable filter, like me. The aesthetics of the kitchenette in Conifer is my favourite. It has a rustic wilderness vibe to it, like an artist studio in the woods. I had the chance to rent some of their camping equipment after my stay, and had an amazing experience with an artfully curated combination of top-tier gear that kept me warm and cosy. Mr Ryota has a wealth of knowledge in outdoor camping gear, I had a fruitful experience here.
