Design Cottage Close to Icelandic Countryside & Reykjavik

Step into one of the oldest homes in town, dating from 1884. Curated by the owners of the design studio Reykjavík Trading Co., The Garden Cottage has been completely remodeled to provide a unique feeling, with a lot of the furniture handmade or meticulously crafted and selected from their travels to California, Scandinavia & Mexico. The land behind The Garden Cottage is home to their designed greenhouse, communal garden, chickens and their most recent addition, The Shed which is their workshop / shop where you can visit for a coffee, buy pieces or see their process of making objects. Curated by the owners & designers of Reykjavík Trading Co. (an Icelandic / California homeware company) the Garden Cottage is their first project of creating a home space for guests to experience a unique & cozy feeling while visiting Iceland. The bottom floor of the 1884 built home has been completely remodeled for guests. Everything in the home has been either made by hand by R.T.Co. or selected from their collection of preferred products & appliances. Anthony Bacigalupo & Ýr Káradóttir, the owners of The Garden Cottage, live & work in the separate upper part of the historic home & their R.T.Co. workshop is located in the back of the garden for guests to visit, learn about the pieces being crafted, or just to have a cup of coffee. We wanted to create a place for guests to experience "slow living" & create a special stay. Having designed spaces for hotels, cafes, bars we decided to put our inspiration & collection into this project & build something completely one-of-a-kind in Iceland. The home was built in 1884 & we have been remodeling & bringing back the style it once was but also bringing back the garden & farm style that was once so prominent back in the day. We believe in hospitality to the fullest which sadly doesn't exist anymore in places. Since we live on the property we can answer any questions you have or have you in for a coffee if you need help deciding your journey in Iceland. The cottage is in the oldest part of Hafnarfjörður, a small harbor town. There are great farm-to-table restaurants, bakeries, live music, artist studios and swimming pools nearby. It’s conveniently located across the road from the town’s bus terminal. The house has three stories but is broken into two flats- we live on the upper floors with our children with separate driveway and front door- but we are here for anything you need or to have a coffee in the greenhouse! Our little town can be easily walked around & explored. Shuttle stops for airport & Blue Lagoon are 3 minutes walk next to the ocean & the bus terminal into Reykjavík is close as well.

The Lava Bowl Bungalow

Newly renovated bungalow with 3 bedrooms. It fits perfectly 8 adults and 3-4 toddlers. It has a spacious garden and a big padio with a hot tub. Kitchen is fully equipped and very spacious. In the garage you can do your laundry and there is also a desk and nice area to have some quiet time for work if needed. Blue lagoon is only 3 min drive away. Wonderful nature all around and you can do many Icelandic adventures. Keflavik International Airport-KEF is 22 minutes away. Enjoy your stay with us!

A cozy house in the old west side of Reykjavík’s center. Located in a quiet and beautiful street a few minutes walk from the old harbor and the lively city center, where you can find restaurants, cafes, bars, museums, shops etc. Within walking distance you can find supermarkets and our local swimming pool. The house is fully equipped with all modern facilities such as Wi-Fi and washing machine. It includes two bedrooms one with king size bed and the other with a sleeper sofa for 1-2 persons.

A cosy 3 bedroom house in a peaceful area near the airport. Only 10 minute walk to the Viking museum, a walking phat that overlooks the ocean and several playgrounds for kids and swimmingpools. Excellent location as it takes only 15 minutes to drive to the Blue lagoon and to the walking path to see the volcano, and 40 minutes to Reykjavík. The airport is only in 6KM distance. A perfect place to stay with your family or friends and explore everything that Reykjanes has to offer. Free wifi.

Great apartment close to city centre

A small cozy house in a beautiful street close to downtown Reykjavik. Free parking in the street. There is one bedroom with a bed for two people and a sleeping sofa for two in the living room. The place was newly renovated with new and modern furniture. The house is in the back so you will have good privacy. The street is very quiet so you can have a peaceful and relaxing time during your stay in Reykjavik.

Our stay at Sonja's was wonderful, the apartment itself was incredibly spacious, clean and had plenty of utensils for us to use if we wanted to cook at home rather than eat out. The location was perfect, around a 10 minute walk from the main shopping street in the city, about two minutes from the sea (with some incredible views!) and around 5 minutes from three large grocery stores. Parking was incredibly easy as described, lots of free on street parking in the area. Checking in/out was incredibly easy and our host was happy for us to check in early if we had arrived early. When we come back to Reykjavik I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this property first to see if it's available!

We traveled with an infant and since no one was using the place the day before, Hildur allowed us to come straight from our flight! It was so incredibly nice of them and my daughter appreciated the opportunity to catch up on some sleep. Overall, the place is beautiful, spacious, and had an incredible review. The pictures for this house do it no justice - the place is absolutely beautiful! Very spacious with tons of light. Incredibly clean. Heated tile floors which keep the whole house warm. Ólafur is very hospitable. He provides thorough instructions and is super responsive if you have any additional questions. (We learned when using the stove/hot plate that you have to put a pan on it first so it can heat because there needs to be weight present to activate.) Our flights arrived early in the morning and he let us check in early and check out an hour late. We had an amazing time in Iceland and when we return we will be booking this house. Thank you Ólafur!

The house was spacious, clean , tidy and we felt at home. All amenities and description were the same as in the advertisement in air B&B. Nice neighbourhood and easy to walk to the supermarket although we had a car. Definitely recommend to others Kjartan was a great host before and during our stay . Iceland is a lovely country.

A stay at this lovely place gives you a high-end experience, no doubt. The house is spacious, clean, well organized, has super tasteful interiors, and a hot tub as the cherry on top! I was simply left with a "wow" after check in and seeing all the small details Thorunn pays attention to. She had made sure that we would not lack a thing, and the instructions she provided us with answered litterally every questions we had during our stay. What a perfect host Thorunn is! Himri was the absolute perfect place to stay for me and my friends. We saw the Northern Lights directly above and in front of the house, loved being surrounded by mountains, and found the drive to other places in our itinerary incredibly easy. The house had everything we could possibly need for our stay, including kitchen basics and coffee. The hot tub and sauna were the perfect means of relaxing after a long day of hiking and exploring. Berglind's communication was swift, thorough, and friendly, and we even received notice directly of the evacuations that were happening to the south as a result of the volcanic eruption (we were completely safe, but the message from our host was greatly appreciated). I hope to return to Iceland in the future, and there is nowhere else I would choose to stay.
