Family-friendly vacation rentals in New River Valley

We wanted to do something unique & different for our anniversary & this did NOT disappoint. From the “main” road you can see the 3 red cabooses up on the hill & our hearts smiled. They recently had storms & we could see where the flood waters deteriorated the sides of the driveway but it was still wide enough for us to pass another small vehicle if needed. Office Check in was a breeze and took less than five mins before we were standing in our getaway train(caboose) which is on a real track! We were the only ones staying this weekend but if others were present, there was plenty of room. Our furbabies throughly enjoyed having a large field in front of the cabooses to run in. The views from the swings were breathtaking especially during the sunsets. Once Inside, we enjoyed the comforts of home (except for a stove). The hotness of the water & the relaxing hot tub added to our experience. Some things were dated but that is to come with the territory. We hope to visit again in the fall.

Giulia has a very nice apartment that was clean with plenty of room. Although close to town, there is a remote feel as the house is surrounded by woods - a definite plus for me.

Wonderful, clean, cozy place to stay for the weekend. Quiet and comfortable. Well stocked with everything needed. Looking forward to another stay here in a few weeks!

Shirleyann is a friendly and welcoming host with a quiet and peaceful property 10 minutes from downtown Floyd. The BnB is comfortable, clean, and has everything you need, including yummy breakfast foods in the fridge. We look forward to staying there again.

We had a blast staying out in the mountains. The peace and quiet was exactly what we needed. The A-frame cabin was beautiful inside and out. We could not have chosen any where better to stay for a weekend.

I had the most wonderful stay at Bliss Cabin, to say the least. From the initial photos of the writing desk and yoga deck, to the curious graveled path winding around the property lined with life and decorative details, I was totally immersed in the love and care that was so palpably present! Kathryn & Luke were absolutely lovely, so helpful, and incredibly accommodating! My recommendations while on the property: build and tend to a fire. Journal at the writing desk while playing Miles Davis. Take an early cold plunge in the river, do a round of Wim Hof breathing, then run up to take a hot shower at their beautiful abode. Chat with Luke, have tea with Kathryn. Do yoga on the deck. Say hello to the frogs. Express your inner musician with their drums and sound bowls. Let your soul free here!

Beautiful location, place as described. Jacuzzi was great. Lots of hot water. Good water pressure, good shower. Bed was comfortable. Donnie was helpful and responsive.

This is a phenomenal option for a visit to Blacksburg. The unit is well appointed, modern, and very clean. Todd and Radka are very responsive, and proactive with great instructions. Would definitely stay again!

I had a fantastic time staying in this cottage, I felt right at home and enjoyed the "cabin getaway" feel. It was a very relaxing place to come back to after all the hiking I did in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was also pretty centrally located for anything I did in Roanoke, and had no problems getting Ubers to and from the location if needed. Patricia was very kind and responsive, and does a great job of maintaining the property. I will definitely stay here again the next time I am out this way for hiking! I highly recommend staying here!

This is the second time I stayed at Erika's yurt. I absolutely love it and it's whimsical design. It is very spacious and fun. Beds are comfortable and the view from the back deck is phenomenal. The only things I suggest since my last trip - this time I went with my 75 year old parents. A light outdoors by the steps to the entrance way. My parents had a difficult time seeing to get down the steps. Also, know that the steps are steep going to the downstairs bedroom and additional yurt. My father couldn't get down there to check out everything. If everyone in your party in young and spry- it's perfect! I never thought about these issues for my parents because it was just my husband and kids the first time I stayed here.

Great spot for relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. Owners are great at communication and easily accessible. We can't wait to stay again!

Scott is an exceptional host and The Grove is a treasure find !!! From the cozy, comfortable and private cabin to the beautiful surroundings of nature trails, wildlife, and magical star gazing , this is our all time favorite Airbnb ! We have stayed here multiple times each year for the past 5 years and highly recommend The Grove !!!

Had a great stay at Josef’s place. Great location and walkable to everything in Downtown Blacksburg, as well as the campus. The home is very clean and has everything needed for a weekend trip. Would definitely stay again.

I can't say enough good things about The Wandering Goat Lodge. The apartment is spacious with many comfortable throw blankets (our favorite!), room to cuddle up and watch TV, and my VT student felt right at home with all the VT fan gear! We delighted in feeding the goats and the donkeys, all of whom had over-the-top personalities. This will definitely be our go-to stay for VT visits while our kiddo is at school.

An absolutely beautiful home set in the rolling farmlands. Exactly what we were looking for. Close to the awesome town of Floyd.

It was lovely this time of year. The hyacinths and daffodils were blooming all around the house. It was such a beautiful setting. Horses were next door in the field and a little creek running behind the house. The location was just a few blocks from the main part of town. Lisa responded quickly when I texted her and was very helpful. If you are looking for a quiet retreat, but close to town and the interstate, this is the place for you.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful mountain house. The views are amazing, and Berit did a great job giving very clear instructions on how to navigate the mountain on the way up. She made sure ahead of time that we had vehicles suitable for the drive which was very appreciated. She checked in with us throughout the weekend just to make sure there was nothing we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked, plenty of towels/blankets available, and overall was just a wonderful stay. There is a winery, Chateau Morrisette, which was only about 15 minutes away that was really fun to visit, and Floyd is a very cute, friendly town. I would definitely stay here again. Joe’s place was exactly as described. The location for visiting our off campus Hokies and doing things around campus was very convenient. The beds were soft and comfortable and there were plenty of towels and dishes for 6 of us. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful, quaint house. Enjoyed the screened porch and yard. Location was convenient for walking to Campus and Main Street. Great stay overall!

Dave was great! Check-in was super easy, the place is very nice, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, and if you have questions he's very responsive. Would stay again!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. We hosted a my hokie son and a few of his hokie friends for Easter dinner and this home was perfect for what we needed. The home was spacious, clean and the location to the campus was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Location. Is insane. Can’t get better. Host was amazing. Could not have asked for a better host.

Location is great especially if you are a fan of the Andy Griffith show. The courthouse is just around the corner. Walk there. The house is clean and everything is well prepared for your visit. The host communicated everything and responded to our inquiries quickly and effectively.

Staying at the White House was a great experience. David was very helpful with finding local restaurants and he was an overall cool person to meet. I highly recommend staying here if you want a quiet getaway!
