The One Where We Stayed at Monica and Rachel's

GavinRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This house was perfect for my month stay in Omaha. Had plenty of space and a plethora of amenities. This is perfect for a traveling worker needing a better experience than a hotel. Whitney was very friendly, helpful, and communicative. Him and his son even helped shovel snow!

Pet friendly Aksarben apt with Private Entrance 🐶

JulianaRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
If you’re visiting Omaha you need to stay here! It’s centrally located, near great food options, and quieter than being downtown or in the hustle and bustle. My husband, dog, and I stayed for a week after moving to the area and it was an amazing staging area before moving into our long term rental. Joanne was responsive and flexible with our travel and moving plans.

Whisker Creek Ranch

SarahRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We came to see the cranes, and the cabin was only 5 minutes from the Plautz Crane Viewing Platform, so we chose it for the location. But also my family liked the property (it was an under-10-minute walk to one of the Platte channels), the front porch, the television, the well-stocked kitchen, the separate bedrooms, and the gas stove in the living area. Cranes flew directly over the cabin in the morning. We are breakfast at the cabin and used the Keurig coffee maker and supplied coffee. Drove into Kearney for dinner.

Adorable cabin tucked away on 80 acres!

AnnieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
I stayed here with some girlfriends for my 40th birthday and it was the perfect getaway for a girls weekend! The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked. Linens and beds were cute, cozy, and so comfortable. The whole cabin was so cute and met our needs really well. We had a few questions throughout our stay and Ashley was very quick to respond which we appreciated. We loved getting to use the fire pit and enjoyed several walks around the property as well as sitting by the pond. I would definitely recommend Ashley’s to anyone looking for a country getaway that’s also close to Lincoln. I would definitely stay again!

Home away from home

HannahRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This was a beautiful house, even bigger than I had anticipated, nice yard, very private, quiet, safe little neighborhood. Spotlessly clean, decorated nicely, but simply, just perfect. Very welcoming for pets and for children as it was very thoughtfully laid out with 2 bathrooms and 2 twin beds in front. Also a nice large TV which gave an almost theater-like experience! Great place, I'd definitely stay again if need be.

2 bedroom villa with garage in quiet neighborhood

MauraRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We were in town for a minor surgery so spent most of our time in the home. We appreciated the multiple living spaces (main floor & basement), including the deck. Kitchen was well stocked. King bed had a very think foam pad on it, we found the bed to be very comfortable without the pad. Also appreciated the large closet, extra space in the bathroom with double sink, and the cozy recliner in the master bedroom. All in all it was the perfect place to make ourselves comfortable for a little recovery. Also was in a very quiet neighborhood and had a nice walking path nearby. Finally, loved that there was a garage space to park in. Highly recommend!

Family Friendly inground pool 1.6 acres intown

RobinRating, 5 stars4 months ago
We had so much fun at your beautiful home!! I’m sure it would have been even more fun if it was the right time of year for swimming but maybe we will be back!! The house is spacious, clean, and includes all the extras! There’s plenty of beds and bathrooms to accommodate a large group. We loved the pool table, playing ping pong, being able to listen to music, play games, and have two TVs when we couldn’t agree on which football game to watch! :) The kitchen was well stocked and everything labeled. I forgot garlic and was relieved to see that some of the staples were provided! Thanks for making our family Christmas memorable!! The Christmas tree even made it feel more festive. Brandy is super responsive and everything went smoothly!! Thanks for accommodating our request!! Highly recommend!!!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage! Our whole family loves the old country decor, and the kids have plenty of space to spread out and play. The Crossing Pub n Grub nearby serves a burger and fries that would be a great find anywhere.

Cute Country Cottage near Lincoln, NE

AliseRating, 5 stars6 days ago
Carol’s cottage was the perfect place for me and my fur babies to stay while on our road trip. Great location with close proximity to the highway, she has a beautiful property here. The cottage has every amenity we needed. It was very clean and we felt right at home. Carol is the sweetest and came out to wish us well in our travels the morning we left. 100% recommend and will definitely be back :)

Your guide to Nebraska

Welcome to Nebraska

Drive along Nebraska’s miles of rural highways and you’ll quickly learn why this is officially nicknamed the Cornhusker State: Farm fields sprawl out across the mostly flat countryside, punctuated by grain towers and vintage barns painted with quilt patterns. Agriculture is a way of life here in America’s heartland, and the state’s connection to the dirt defines the outdoorsy spirit even in the biggest towns and cities.

The Missouri River hems Nebraska’s eastern border, where the landscapes seem a little greener and lusher. To the east, the two main urban centers — Omaha, the largest city, and Lincoln, the capital — claim a culture all their own, with rootsy live-music scenes and growing clusters of craft breweries. The western side of the state, though more sparsely populated, has some of Nebraska’s most remarkable natural features: Scenic roads cut across the grassy Sandhills, which cover the north-central parts of the state. In the rugged Nebraska Panhandle, rock formations such as Scotts Bluff National Monument mark the skyline, and wagon ruts from the migrations of 19th-century settlers remain carved into the dusty prairie.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Nebraska

While summers can get muggy, June through August is the busiest season in Nebraska for a few reasons: All the attractions are open, outdoor patio bars are hopping, and the rivers are cool for cruising. Temperatures cool in fall, when communities throughout Nebraska throw harvest festivals to celebrate the state’s farming heritage. By late fall, ice and snow become common. Throughout winter, blizzards can make driving dangerous, so take care if you’re visiting in the cold months of December to March. Spring brings the remarkable migration of sandhill cranes, some that fly thousands of miles to rest and recharge around the Platte River. Late spring, the temperatures are typically warm and lack summer’s high humidity. But it’s also the main season for tornadoes, so pay attention to official weather advisories this time of year.

Top things to do in Nebraska

Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway

Take Nebraska Highway 2 west from Grand Island through the largest dune system in the Western Hemisphere. Known as the Sandhills, these dunes aren’t the ever-shifting mountains of sand you might expect. They’re mostly stabilized with vegetation — golden-green hills that ripple across the prairie. This 272-mile, scenic road trip has plenty of outdoor diversions along the way, including mountain biking trails in the Nebraska National Forest and canoe trips along the Dismal River.

Carhenge

It’s like Stonehenge in England, only made with antique cars wedged upright into the dusty prairie. Built by a family in the late 1980s, this bizarre monument in the Nebraska Panhandle now belongs to the city of Alliance, which designated the land surrounding Carhenge as the Car Art Reserve. Over the past few decades, more artists have added sculptures to the site, each made with parts from automobiles.

Toadstool Geologic Park

A moon-like landscape shaped by ancient rivers and volcanic ash, the Toadstool Geologic Park stands in stark contrast to the surrounding Oglala National Grassland. A one-mile interpretive trail loops past mushrooming rock pillars, beguiling sandstone formations, and visible signs of fossils that hint at the region’s dramatic natural history.
