Family-friendly vacation rentals in Monroe Lake

We’d had a last-minute cancellation at another Airbnb in Kentucky due to flooding in that area. We immediately looked for a new place that we could escape to for some nature & unplugged time, and stumbled upon Garrett & Ewan’s listing—luckily a short drive for us. It is a gem of a find! Cozy home in a private setting with trails and on the water—hot tub was a bonus! We loved sitting around the fire pit, too. The loft was perfect for our teenagers. The rockers on the porch were our go-to in the morning for coffee. We commented several times on how it would be even better to stay in the summer—lots to do outdoors for all. The beds were a bit firm but that is just a personal preference. The house was clean & comfortable—definitely made for a great escape from the busyness of life. Garrett & Ewa were incredibly responsive and quick to answer any questions we had. We were grateful they accepted a last minute booking! It was just the type of R&R our family needed.☺️

We were a group of 4 old friends and our younger kids. Everything about this place was perfect for our get away. There are essentially two sides of the house with 2 kitchens. So when some of the kids wanted to be wild, the others could retreat to the other side of the house for more peace and quiet. The hot tub was amazing for everyone. The swing is all it's cracked up to be - a must try. We LOVED the beds - I am very particular with beds and these were wonderful. They are not too firm, but firm enough with what felt like a bamboo foam topper - perfect. Kitchens were perfectly stocked with all the supplies we needed. This really is the best place to go if you want to unwind and relax with friends and family. Remote enough to feel like an escape, but not too far removed that it's hard to find. The only thing we regret is not staying longer! We will definitely be back. Thank you Ken!!

Beautiful and cozy home. Loved being able to use the hot tub and pool table. Having the lake in the back was an added bonus. Less than 2 miles from downtown Nashville.

We stayed at Sycamore Hill as part of a work trip and it was an excellent alternative to staying at a hotel. The home is set on a hill with beautiful view while the home itself was spotless and extremely comfortable. At the end of a long day of work, coming in the door felt like coming home. Mike was an excellent and communicative host, giving us advice on local things to do and generally was an extremely interesting fellow with many stories to tell. I look forward to staying at Sycamore Hill again when we are back in the area.

They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, from allowing a flexible check-in and check-out to ensuring we had everything we needed. The property itself was stunning, with a beautiful setup that made for a perfect getaway. The hot tub was an absolute highlight—so relaxing and exactly what we needed. We were especially grateful that we were able to have fun without any issues, and they were so accommodating throughout our stay. To top it all off, their dog is absolutely adorable! We can’t recommend this place enough and would love to return. Thank you, Tom and Robert, for an unforgettable experience!

Perfect for a large gathering - lots of room. Neighborhood is very nice with a park nearby and walking trails. The house itself is in need of some sprucing up (eg moldy dead leaves covering the glass ceiling of the sun room, missing baseboards, cabinet doors in disrepair). However the bedrooms had good mattresses and ok furniture. We did have to laugh that “no parties” are allowed when the house seems set up for a rager (LOTS of beds everywhere in kind of odd places even in the garage/billiards room and in the dining area off kitchen!), 26 chairs on the back deck and 2 blenders! All in all perfect for a casual large group stay. Host is super responsive!

This place was perfect for our IU football weekend activities. It was close to the campus, stadium and many restaurants and the college mall area. We will definitely stay there again!!!

Very clean, represents as in photos. Great location, right on B-line trail and 2 miles from downtown Bloomington. Very good comms with host, kindly provided coffee and dry goods/condiments. Comfy beds, good shower. Only downsides were slow (but usable) internet, and a bit drafty (it was cold/snowstorm while we were there) but heat worked well once we turned it up. Would stay again if in town.

Our stay here was wonderful! This is a hidden gem in Bloomington, a cute little quiet neighborhood-feel.

It was great stay at this place for my wife and I. Was there for over a month and had little complaints!

The property was absolutely beautiful! Came for a wedding that was close by and enjoyed a wonderful night around one of the two fire pits. Wish we had more time in the morning to explore more of the property. Our dog really enjoyed the expansive forest. Alexandra was amazing and super communicative with anything we could have needed. Can’t wait to come back!

I rented Ross's place for Mom's weekend at IU, and it was ideal! My daughter was able to stay with me, and the space provided a great place for a few moms/daughters to meet up before evening activities. The most obvious highlight is the location! It is right next to IU/Sample Gates, downtown Kirkwood Street, and restaurant row. Everything we needed was within walking distance or short Uber ride away if we didn't want to walk. The space was spacious, clean, open and bright, and we had everything we needed. As the listing mentions, it is next to another apartment and above a business, so the quiet hours are a bit early- just to be aware. Due to prime location, street parking can be tricky, but the parking information Ross gave at check in was SO helpful, and it worked out great! Another IU mom immediately asked me to send her the listing, and I plan to rent here again!! Thank you for a perfect stay! Go Hoosiers!

Of the places I’ve stayed, this was the absolute best. It was so homey, so Bloomington, so restful and 100% what you need if you are crashing after a long day at a conference. It’s walkable, safe, and easy quiet. There are chickens downstairs which I thought were amazing! The space itself had literally everything you could think of - if you forgot something, don’t worry, because seriously, they have you covered. Thank you so much for allowing me to share your space! It was so restful and I really enjoyed my stay.

Great spot with easy access to Lake Monroe. Host was very helpful and responsive.

This is a repeat stay for us. We love staying at the Overlook for our family get togethers. Plenty of room, enough supplies for guests staying and large gathering areas. Lots to do in the area as well. Paula is an awesome hosts and quick to reply and very accommodating making our stay always delightful.
