20 Minutes to Hocking Hills State Park / Discounts

MeaganRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The place was spotless and very nice. They had a nice welcome binder that had tons of information. The kitchen is stocked with most dishes you may need to cook with. A large bonus to me was that the check out instructions were minimal as they placed emphasis on us enjoying our stay and not worrying about making the place spotless again. All we needed to have taken care of was the dishes! Hocking Hills and all of its attractions are about 20 minutes away. We had a lovely stay!

Cozy home in the heart of Hocking Hills * Hot Tub

LaurieRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This worked out perfectly for our group of three! The home was a comfortable, clean, peaceful place to relax between explorations of the local area, particularly the nearby town of Logan and trails in the Hocking Hills area. The spacious backyard was especially welcoming, with the neighboring animals (goats, ponies, horses, etc.) and mowed pathways among the trees that made for a lovely stroll before settling down for evening s'mores at the fire pit. Caleb clearly cares about his guests, and was an active communicator making sure we had everything we needed!

The Crooked Mile Cabin

BevRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
This cabin and its location were beyond our expectations! The driveway wandered its crooked path .3 miles up to this charming cabin which set upon a grassy hilltop with incredible views of wooded land. The front porch is the perfect place to sit in the morning to enjoy the birds singing. At night we watched the fireflies as they put on a show for us. There are no neighbors in any direction to disturb the natural beauty. After hiking all day or horseback riding we enjoyed soaking in the hot tub on the back porch. We kept busy for a week finding different trails outside of the park after doing each area in Hocking Hills state park. We enjoyed home cooked meals at different restaurants in Logan for breakfast and dinner. Cherish came every 3 days to clean the hot tub and pick up trash if needed.

The place was beautiful! Felt secluded. Loved all of the patios and the outdoor area. We enjoyed the hot tub and grille! The driveway was a bit of a challenge with the rain (we don’t have 4wd), but we were able to make it up once the rain stopped! Overall, such a great trip in the coziest home!

Couldn’t have picked a better place for a bachelorette weekend. Easy and short drive to the Hocking Hills Hikes, quick drive to Logan for groceries, and also still close (hour drive) to Columbus for a really great night out. Amenities were perfect and the kitchen was really well stocked with any cookware/utensils you would need! The place was literally perfect for a group of 6 and I don’t think we could have asked for more.

Upstairs apartment in downtown Logan!

ChristianRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The apartment was amazingly clean, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated—truly a home away from home. Every detail was perfect, from the comfortable bed to the fully stocked kitchen. It was the ideal spot to relax after exploring the Hocking Hills area. One of the unexpected highlights was the cutest little shop downstairs, run by the host. It was full of charming, unique items and added such a special touch to the overall experience. We loved browsing and even picked up a few treasures to take home! The host was kind, responsive, and made everything so easy. We can’t recommend this place enough and would absolutely stay here again.

Your guide to Logan

Welcome to Logan

Logan is a peaceful, unassuming city of 7,000 on the banks of Ohio’s Hocking River, about 50 miles southeast of Columbus. It’s the chief city of the Hocking Hills region (and, in fact, the only city in the county). It presides over an area of hardwood forests, rolling hills, and several forested parks. The town was established in 1816, and downtown reflects a late-19th-century commercial prosperity, with a mix of two- and three-story brick buildings of varied architectural styles; just beyond are leafy residential neighborhoods with an assortment of stately white clapboard homes. Among the city’s claims to fame: It’s home to the last manufacturer of washboards in the country, and you can snap a selfie in front of the world’s largest washboard, attached to the wall of the factory building.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Logan

The sultry months of summer are the most popular time to visit Logan and the surrounding area. In June, July, and August, temperatures can often hover in the 80s Fahrenheit during the day, cooling into the 60s many evenings. The clement weather coincides with festival season, which includes the annual Washboard Fest on Father’s Day weekend, celebrating the nation’s last washboard manufacturer with food, fun events, and a surfeit of clackety music. In the fall, cool, pleasant weather prevails, and Logan tends to be quieter — although notably less quiet on the first weekend in October, when the annual festival of marching bands is held at Logan High School. If you book one of the area’s vacation rentals for winter, expect occasional snowfall and chilly days, with temperatures often hovering around the freezing mark.

Top things to do in Logan

Lake Logan State Park

Just west of town is Lake Logan State Park, built around a 400-acre reservoir created when a dam was built in 1955. The hardwood forest hosts a range of trails for hiking; check out the Pine Vista Trail, which is just over a mile but offers a loop around the top of a nearby hill that is popular with sledders in winter. Across from the trailhead on the lake’s north shore is a 500-foot swimming beach equipped with restrooms, changing rooms, and drinking water.

Nelsonville

A dozen miles southeast of Logan is Nelsonville, an historic town of 5,000 with a compact arts district that edges the central square. Spend part of a day walking around the town, then head to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway for a short and nostalgic train ride. Bring a bike and you can explore along the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, which runs for 21 miles through scenic terrain.

Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum

This extremely focused museum is essentially a shed next to the Hocking Hills visitor’s center. Within it, you’ll find, well, pencil sharpeners — about 3,400 of them. It’s the sort of roadside attraction that dotted the state highways around the nation once upon a time, but have since folded and faded. The odds are you’ll spend only a few minutes here. The odds are also good you’ll spend a lifetime telling friends you once visited a museum of pencil sharpeners in Ohio.
