Historically Gilleleje is an old fishing village and it was here that many Jews were transported to Sweden during World War II. Gilleleje Church was a waiting place for Jews until they could be transported. In 1943, 75 Jews were caught by the Gestapo on the church ceiling after a snitch had informed the Germans. Everywhere there are monuments of historical events. Every year there are various festivals in Gilleleje - "Hill" Festival, Harbour Festival, Jazz at the port and The Herring Day. The garden is more or less overgrown with paths that are regularly cut. The house can be heated with fireplace, wood-burning stove and heat pump and there is both a washing machine and dishwasher. Arresø is a 5-minute walk from the summerhouse and 10 minutes away is Tinggården. The area is characterized by nature and summer houses. Lovely beaches within cycling distance.
