These months also experience low rainfall, allowing you to make the most of the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests with open-air activities such as hiking or rafting on the Palmiet River.

White Water Rafting

The upside to visiting Kleinmond during the rainy months? Head to the Palmiet River for the thrilling experience of paddling the raft downstream atop rushing waters. The best-traveled whitewater rafting route covers a four-kilometer stretch of the river, providing between two and three hours of adventure with exquisite views of the surrounding mountains.

Harbour Road

Stretching southward toward the coast from the town’s main road, lively Harbour Road is home to gift shops, restaurants, galleries, and pubs. Stop by for a true taste of South African barbecue — braai — paired with a local shiraz. If you continue wandering south along Harbour Road, you’ll reach its end, where you’ll be rewarded with a view of waves crashing against the rocks.

Coastal Hiking

A walk into the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, just west of town, gives you access to a network of 20 hiking paths that lead to indescribably beautiful places. The immense biodiversity of the area means that you may catch occasional sightings of rare animals and plants like the round, bumpy-skinned strawberry rain frog, the marsh rose, and, in winter, fynbos bushes in bloom.
