Amazing experience in Tsumago! This is what you would expect from an old country house in Japan: the beautiful garden, tatami floors, wood ceilings, a cozy wood bathub, an old-fashioned but fully equipped kitchen… All the tradition, the history, the cozyness with todays confort and amenities. It is a bit pricey but take into account that there are not many accomodations in the area. In the end you will get what you pay for; a traditional experience, full confort, a huge house in the middle of a tiny old town among mountains and the river. I fully recommend it, host is always communicative and helpful and this is a experience you will surely remember. The memories we gathered doing origami next to the heater, the cozy living room and relaxing bathub will always be with us.

Yuki’s stylish and comfortable renovation of a traditional home is a perfect base for a group of family and/or friends The kitchen is well appointed to prepare and share meals at the large handsomely hewed dining table. The home is nestled in the side of Mt. Kasagi’s base along a sweet babbling brook where birdsong accompanies dawn and dusk. Precious silence accompanies a sky full of stars on a clear night. Soaking in the bath overlooking the woods on the other side of the creek is the perfect way to renew after a day of exploring. A highlight of my stay was Yuki’s other project Boyko Forest Campground, which is a 30 minute drive up Mt. Kasagi. Boyko is a lovely and lively base for exploring walking trails that lead to stunning vistas and the local mountain shrine. While I was there early in the season, I can imagine how lively the center will be and what a pleasure it will be to enjoy many of the other offerings and activities his team have planned for the season.

We had a great 1 night stay for the 8 person group we had - 2 families. For a fee, we got tasty home made pizza we prepared with our own toppings. Our kids loved our host’s warmth. Everything was great.

Takashi's place was absolutely amazing, and so is he. It was a great pleasure meeting him and sleeping in his beautiful historic building in the middle of Narai-Juku. It felt really special. Takashi is a wonderful host: very friendly and responsive! I can definitely recommend staying at his place.

I was worried about how far I climbed along the way, but it was a quiet and peaceful place in a very nice space.I'd like to stay again!!

Assi was a special host: he welcomed us in the morning to let us leave our bags early and also accompanied us to Magome, to give us the opportunity to leave immediately with the Nakasendo trail. Both from Nagoya and then from Nagiso the house is easy to access, having the station very close. Assi then welcomed us in the evening, once the house had been prepared, to show us the spaces. The house is spectacular: an old traditional house, complete with an internal garden. The kitchen is spacious and with everything you need to cook something in the evening, after days of hiking. There are so many rooms, being in 2 in such a large space was like being in a palace. If you are looking for tranquility and a local experience, this home is for you! A tip for those arriving from Nagoya by train: if you use the IC card, get off at Nakatsugawa, pass the card and then buy the single ticket for 200 yen for Sakashita. Internal stations are outside the IC circuit!
