Family-friendly vacation rentals in Herolds Bay

An absolute gem of a spot, over looking the sea on a quiet private road. Absolutely perfect for our family of 4. Everything provided including beach toys for the kids and board and card games. There is also so much to do in the area even when the weather was not perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our evenings in the hot tub stargazing. Thanks so much!

Just wow! This place is just something else. Luxurious bedrooms with a balcony where you can see a beautiful view of the ocean, spacious living room, well-equipped kitchen. You can see and hear the birds around you. There was everything we needed and more. Marianna was so helpful, kind and made everything clear. It’s a short walk to the supermarket and the beach. Definitely staying here when I come back to Wilderness!

This wooden house with its large balcony, tucked away in the bush creates a lovely feeling of seclusion in Ballots Bay. The house has everything that you need, is full of character, and conjures up feelings of nostalgia with its decor and remnants of previous family holidays. We enjoyed the walk to the private beach (though some people might prefer to drive) and some of the pristine hikes marked in the welcome guide. The jacuzzi was fantastic on chilly nights! Lovely spot for escaping the rush without going far.

We had a wonderful time at David's cottage and would definitely recommend this spot. There's heaps to do in the surrounding areas but just chilling out and disconnecting and exploring the farm is enough! Thank you Colleen and Janie.

A cozy place with an astonishing view of the bay. Instructions were very clear and the unit was spotless! Definitely worth the price. Could do with more lightning on the balcony.

I can't wait to return. The serene farm stay was perfect for a family break from the city's hustle and bustle. There was a sprawling lawn for the kids to enjoy themselves, and the crate of bats/balls, etc., was put to good use. It is eye-opening to see what the city kids are missing. The hike to the river was amazing, and not once did the kids have a chance to even think of saying they were tired, as nature kept them guessing around every corner. Linda was amazing from the initial communication post-booking until after checkout. Genuine farm hospitality!

Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip to SA due to a medical emergency. We did have friends who stayed at Firewings and absolutely loved it. My son and his family also stayed there and also thought it was fabulous. The reports were so good that we plan to stay at Firewings next February (health permitting). John is a fabulous host. Nothing was too much trouble considering our change of plans and his response time was always swift. I could not recommend John or Firewings more highly.

We had a wonderful stay, the house had everything we needed an more. So we'll equipped for families. The amenities was amazing and we really enjoyed the pool right across from the house. Highly recommend this property!

Maria made us feel right at home. The place is incredible, and the furniture is equally impressive. We mostly followed the recommendations they gave us. The house is situated in a very safe area, just a 5-minute walk from a restaurant and a coffee shop. The beach is just a 10-minute walk away. It’s the perfect place to stay with a baby. We used the barbecue and beach chairs. Knysna is an ideal break on the Garden Route. We would have stayed longer if we could have!

Anton was a very responsive and accommodating host. The place is tucked away in nature which means lots of serene sounds, peace and quietness. The place is decked out with all the basic cooking stuff, guides and books to really disconnect from our city lives. Only challenge was getting our small rental car over the driveway to the cabin. Highly recommended

The only reason I would not give five stars is because it was so incredible I wouldn't want to share. unfortunately my conscience won't let me, and I can only say I will be back as soon as possible!

wonderful farm setting to get away from the clutter - wish we had more time to explore the farms and surroundings. Amenities were excellent and as described. will always recommend to those interested.

Rita was so welcoming and friendly. The accommodation was so beautiful I wish we could have stayed longer.

We loved everything, the house is equipped with everything you need, our stay coincided with my birthday, there is a restaurant on the waterfront where we were able to get oysters and champagne. At night the house offers a very beautiful view of the mountains and the coastline and of course the starry sky. Julia was very kind and it was a pleasure to talk to her. Definitely recommend for an unusual experience.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was peaceful and quiet with gorgeous views. Tendai was very responsive to all queries and always available. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed for cooking and braaing. The lagoon is literally across the road, the kids loved exploring and finding items like rays, crabs, expired jellyfish etc. It was definitely a memory making holiday and would highly recommend this option.

We spent a lovely 12 days in Lesley's cottage. Lesley was a thoughtful, caring host who went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and happy. The cottage was lovely and the surroundings peaceful. Would definitely stay again.

We loved everything about Candlewood Beach House and had the most wonderful time together as a family. From cosy dinners by the fire to watching the dolphins ride the waves from the terrace - every moment felt special. The setting is breathtaking, and the peacefulness of the estate made our stay even more memorable. Driving in, we were often greeted by wildlife roaming freely, which added to the magic of this place. It's a rare gem where nature and comfort blend perfectly. Thank you, Caroline, for sharing your beach house with us, and for being so responsive to any correspondence or questions we had. We would absolutely love to return in the nearby future!

My stay at Heidi's River Treehouse was incredibly relaxing. The location is simply stunning, and the tranquility there is truly soothing. Heidi is an exceptional host, very friendly and helpful. A small tip for those who like to sleep in: since the sleeping area cannot be completely darkened and the birds are quite active in the morning, I recommend bringing an eye mask and earplugs. However, this didn't detract from my wonderful overall experience, and I would gladly return!

This is really a small house with all the things you need for a holiday in the mountains of Hoekwil. Walkable to the village centre. Nestled in the garden with a great sense of privacy and a view of the mountains through trees. We only spent a night on a stop-over, but I imagine it would be a great space for friends or a small family to hang out together.

A huge thank you to Peter and Chery! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at home. The apartment is beautiful and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The highlight for me was the stunning view from the balcony — both in the morning and at sunset, it was absolutely breathtaking. The place is spotless, fully equipped, and thoughtfully maintained. Nothing was missing in the kitchen or bathroom. I truly enjoyed every moment, and if I come back, I’d love to stay here again without a doubt!

Lovely unit, very well and considerately stocked with milk, tea, coffee, etc. Comfiest couch ever! Highly recommended.

We spent 4 nights as a family of 4. The property is exquisite and has all the luxury amenities. The views are breathtaking! The house is massive but feels cosy and homely. The hosts are friendly, helpful and accommodating. I’ve now found my new favourite place to stay in Knysna!

Brian was an awesome host, very friendly and quick to respond to any questions before arrival. Spacious, clean, everything you need when away from home. Most definitely worth it, will recomend this beautiful place.
