The Donnerschwee district emerged from an old farming village, which presumably existed since the 9th century. Esterwegen, as a recreational area in the beautiful Nordhümmling, is ideal for idyllic bike tours and relaxed walks to or around the memorial with the adjacent marshland adventure trail.
