Waterfront vacation rentals in Free State

The house was perfect for our holiday. The fenced garden was so nice for our toddler and dog so we didn't have to worry about the water. A real highlight was swimming in the river. The big veranda was lovely for lazy afternoons and braaing. The beds are very comfortable and lovely linen and towels. The kitchen has everything you need. Best if all you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere but there are shops and restaurants close by.

This is a private and beautiful location with the on-site expectations fully fulfilled. The staff are friendly and efficient. The multiple entertainment areas and very significant fridge space and facilities ensured our birthday celebration weekend was a smash hit for all. We missed not having a boat to enjoy the river more fully.

A stunning getaway. This was our second trip here with family and won’t be our last. The location is breathtaking and the house is beautiful, comfortable, and well stocked. Vicki, Rick and George were very helpful and accommodating. Thanks for sharing this slice of heaven with us!

We had a truly lovely stay at the stone barn. Much bigger than expected. Very relaxing atmosphere. Our favourite experience was going to the river within walking distance and had a lovely picnic and swim. Would definitely recommend the stay and would come back for sure.

An unforgettable stay at Hamstead Farm Eco and Pet-Friendly Cottage! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the breathtaking mountain views and the abundance of birds and wildlife all around us—it truly felt like a peaceful escape into nature. Dianna was an exceptional host, always available with helpful suggestions for events and activities happening in the area, which made our stay even more enjoyable. A special thanks to Aathol as well, who went above and beyond by assisting us when we had trouble with a flat wheel—such kindness and hospitality made us feel right at home. The cottage itself was spotless, with top-notch facilities in excellent condition. Every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of, ensuring we had a comfortable and relaxing stay. We highly recommend Hamstead Farm to anyone looking for a serene getaway with warm, welcoming hosts. We can’t wait to visit again!

Amazing!!! George the housekeeper on premises was on point and was always there. Great for a family get together of 14-15 people and built in such a way that everyone has their own space with beautiful views of the dam. House and surrounding gardens are immaculate.
