Our time at the Shearer’s cottage was absolutely magical. My husband and I stayed with our three children for three nights. We were all utterly delighted when we walked in the door - lots of excited gasps from everyone - the surroundings are gorgeous, the property is thoughtfully appointed and spotlessly clean… far enough from the madding crowd to feel peaceful and secluded, yet still a very convenient drive to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands. Ian and Anna were very friendly and communicative and made us feel totally welcome. Allow time to make the most of this beautiful place. The dawn chorus is glorious! Make sure you opt in for the spa by the river. We really hope we can visit again. Thank you so much Ian and Anna.

A little paradise in the far north! A dreamlike property with a spacious guest area on the upper floor, delicious breakfast with fruit from the orchard and very warm hosts. Debbie and David are very helpful and open-minded, with lots of tips for things to do in the area. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and can highly recommend the accommodation.

We are family of four and a senior dog and the cottage is truly beautiful. It is warm and has everything that you need for your stay. Well equipped kitchen, washing machine and dryer. The reviews did not lie when they said, the beds are comfortable- they really are. The location is great. Beaches are nearby, small townships are a short drive (20mins) or the local fish n chip shop is less than a 5 min walk- sells a great coffee. Teresa is a great host and responsive to questions. If you are not sure if you should book the cottage- don't be. The reviews on Matauri Shearers Cottage is spot on and I absolutely recommend this place, it had everything we needed.

We wanted to stay as close to the North of the island as we could, and knew there were very few places to stay. Having found this gem, it was everything we could have wished for (and more) It has been finished to an exceptional standard, with ‘off grid’ living at its heart, but no compromising on the availability of power and water. The pool was a constant 23c, with natural treatment system, making the water healthy and feel amazing on your skin. The quietness, and natural surroundings are what this area is about. Easy reach to the Dunes and the North, so the best place to be to beat the high season crowds. This is one Airbnb not to be missed!

It is not 5 star accommodation but it did not say it was. It was clean and things worked. Great value for a group of friends travelling. 2 night stay sitting on the deck in the evening, the view of the falls and below was great. We ate at the manor a couple of minutes' walk away and enjoyed Karoke. Second night we made dinner. What was important to us? a) 8 of us can stay together b) keeping cost down c) clean. We will come back in again on the next trip in 2026.

River Cottage was such a gem! The surroundings were like a jungle, the grounds were beautiful and there was fun activities like board games and kayaks. We were even able to borrow a fishing pole and caught a fish! I enjoyed walking around the farm property and river area. My favorite part was access to a lookout tower off the deck. I made my latte each morning and climbed up there to enjoy it while watching and listening to all the birds. Book this place, it's magical!

Lovely host with a beautiful garden and a lake close by which you are free to explore. She gave us great recommendations for day trips in the area and we enjoyed chatting with her. We did spend some enjoyable dinners together, thanks for the delicious curry and dessert! We will keep good memories of our stay and wish you all the best!

Michelle made us feel very welcome in her home which we had full use of. It was a quiet and relaxing place to stay with plenty of walking areas for our Scottish terrier dog. Ninety Mile beach was close by and it was very handy to travel to other sights further north and close by. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and hope to get back sometime in the future.

What a great find! The location is stunning, the unit had everything we needed, the beds were very comfortable and when we had a small issue with something in the room and staff rectified it immediately. The pool is AWESOME. We only had 4 nights there and I wish we had stayed longer.
