Tiny Timber- Stunning Tiny House

CharisRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This tiny home was perfect for our family of 3. Spearfish is a great location hub for seeing all the surrounding areas. The host was very responsive. Wifi was spotty and i definitely hit my elbows in the shower and head on a few beams in the loft bed - but it's a tiny home. We enjoyed the hot tub. It seemed private enough even though in a community of other renters. Well decorated. Shower worked very well. Perfect for our trip to see all things South Dakota.

The Battle Creek camping resort has a really cool, quirky design. The property is gorgeous, all the buildings are well made, clean, and beautiful. Comfy bed and it was lovely to watch a lightning storm in the distance while roasting marshmallows over the fire.

Cabin on 20 acres w/ horses, goats, mini donkey

A-One-Day-One ManagementRating, 5 stars4 days ago
Our family booked a fairly last minute trip out to the Hills and we were so excited to find a perfect 3 night open block @ Emily’s place! The location, just outside Hill CIty, was perfect! The location is private and beautiful and very easy to access right off the main road. Our youngest daughter LOVED all the animals onsite and both Pat & Emily greeted us & introduced us to the animals, even leaving us carrots to feed the horses, Daisey the Donkey and the Goats. The house was the perfect size for the 5 of us, very comfortable beds, 2 new leather chairs in the Living Room and plenty of space. Lots of nice touches throughout with games, emergency snacks, extra Shampoo / Conditioner / Body Wash, an Art Easel, nightlights, etc. The kids enjoyed a quick bonfire one night and made the S’mores that were left for us as a welcome gift, another super nice touch! And we all loved meeting and hanging out with Hank & Teddy, the property puppies! Starlink Internet was great!

Experience a stay at the delightful firetower

KaraRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We are so lucky to have found this place and want to make this a regular spot to return to! Pictures can't really show just how absolutely stunning the panorama views from the upper floor are. Truly took my breath away as I got to the top. Everything is so well designed and comfortable - perfect for our hills getaway/tech detox trip! We enjoyed travelling to the state parks and national forest during the daytimes and then relaxing here and watching the sunset/sunrise from the wrap-around deck. We even saw a pack of turkeys leading a fawn through the woods in the back one morning. What a unique and beautiful experience - 10/10. There are 2 flights of stairs to climb as you have the whole unit, but we loved this split level design that allowed for some privacy when utilizing the bathroom on the middle floor (the top of the bathroom is open to the bedroom to allow for air flow, so there is not a lot of sound privacy when in the bathroom). Can't wait to visit again sometime!

Mystic Road Cottage… -Peaceful -Private -Hot tub

TysonRating, 5 stars1 week ago
(5 Stars – The Perfect Honeymoon Getaway!) Our stay at Mystic Rd Cottage in Hill City, SD was everything we could have hoped for and more for our honeymoon. The cabin was clean, cozy, private, and tucked away in the perfect spot—what more could newlyweds from North Carolina ask for while exploring the beautiful Black Hills? The location was unbeatable—just a short drive to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, with the scenic Needles Highway practically in the backyard. Even Badlands National Park was only a couple hours away and made for a perfect day trip. Bonnie and her husband were absolutely wonderful—so kind and welcoming. You can really feel the warmth of the locals here, which made our trip even more special. We couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate this special chapter in our lives. Highly recommend Mystic Rd Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable stay in the Black Hills!

Deadwood Two Bit Cabin on the Creek

AmberRating, 5 stars1 day ago
We chose Molle's Two Bit cabin for our last leg of our road trip due to the private space, proximity to Deadwood and Sturgis but also for its promise of quiet. It has been a busy trip and when we entered the cabin and saw labels to identify the switches, helpful notes regarding the hot tub and location of additional blankets and just how serene the yard was, I knew I had saved the best for last. The furniture and beds were absolute heaven. The shower felt amazing and the Hot tub was exactly what we needed after a long stressful drive. We encountered truck issues on journey so we were thankful for the proximity to different cities to have it looked at. we also loved that we had a comfortable place to relax and unwind. Check out was easy even if we didn't really want to leave. We are already discussing creating an opportunity to return, this time with our vehicle fixed so we can enjoy more of what the area has to offer.

The place was really cute and very clean. Perfect size for my husband and I. The setting was beautiful and very beautiful. We stayed there in mid June 2025 and there were 3 or 4 other campers but since this camper is all the to the left, to the left of large rock, we seldom heard the other campers. It was nice and quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the fire pit and the outdoor furniture. We ate outdoors most days. You can hear the relaxing fountain at the No Bad Days Campgrounds. We would stay again. Nice central location. You're around 45 minutes drive of Mount Rushmore. 1 hour 10 minutes drive of Banlands, Less than an hour to Custer State Park and Crazy Horse is very close to Custer State park. And a out 5 minute drive from Pactola Lake. The views out the living room windows is pine trees. Beautiful!

Your guide to Black Hills

All About Black Hills

With more than 5 million acres of stunning forests and mountainous terrain, the Black Hills of South Dakota are home to impressive monuments, five national parks, and miles of scenic byways. Here, you’ll find world-famous attractions like Mount Rushmore, as well as the wild bison that roam freely on the plains in Custer State Park. Visit geological wonders in Badlands National Park, which have been formed by thousands of years of wind and rain. And take a fascinating journey underground at the Jewel Cave National Monument, one of the longest cave systems in the world.

The Black Hills are dotted with interesting towns to visit, too. Rapid City, the major gateway to the Black Hills, offers an abundance of restaurants, shops, and museums. The historic Old West town of Deadwood, which dates from the 19th-century gold rush, still draws people to wander along its charming Main Street, lined with historic buildings and saloons. At Hot Springs, you can visit the site where bones from more than 60 mammoths have been unearthed.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Black Hills

Summer is a great time to be in the Black Hills, and there are many cabins for rent for your stay. You can expect mostly warm and sunny days for exploring the outdoors, so make sure to pack your sunscreen and hat (and don’t forget mosquito repellent for the evenings). In June, the Black Hills Bluegrass Festival draws musicians from all over to perform in the pine-covered hills. In fall, the days become cooler and the nights even colder, but you’ll still enjoy plenty of sunshine. December through February are the coldest months in South Dakota, when lows can reach below zero degrees Fahrenheit. In March, the temperatures warm up a little, but it’s when you’re likely to see most snow in the region. Later in the springtime, the temperatures finally rise again, but it is also when the range receives plenty of rainfall — turning the Black Hills bright green.

Top things to do in Black Hills

Mount Rushmore

The iconic Mount Rushmore, 40 miles southwest of Rapid City, is one of the most famous attractions in the United States. It took 14 years, beginning in 1927, to carve four U.S. presidents’ faces into the granite face of the mountain. Take a walk along the Presidential Trail for spectacular views from several perspectives. You can also stroll through the Avenue of Flags, which represents the 50 states of America.

Custer State Park

Take a scenic drive on the Wildlife Loop through Custer State Park to see a herd of more than 1,000 bison roaming freely. As you slowly make your way around the loop, you may spot them up close, and if you’re lucky, elk, deer, mountain goats, and prairie dogs may make appearances, too. There are three trails to hike along in the park, including the Cathedral Spires Trail, a three-mile round trip that takes you to the base of towering eroded rock formations shaped like spires.

Jewel Cave National Monument

The spectacular Jewel Cave National Monument near Custer has more than 200 miles of plotted passages below the surface, with new ones documented every year. The walls of the cave are lined with calcite crystals that sparkle just like jewels, hence the name. The Scenic Loop, the most popular trail open to the public, is a half-mile circuit with more than 700 stairsteps.
