If youre dreaming of ever staying on a private island.Do it at Cindiri beach. Absolutely the best island caretakers and amazing scenery . You wont be disappointed. We had a complete amazing island vacation. We bought the all inclusive package, highly recommend, great food and the island caretakers took exceptional care of us. The island is still growing and developing. More accommodations are being built as well as a bar. We cant wait to return for more great snorkeling and amazing fishing.

Bird's Isle Cabanas #2

MeganRating, 5 stars3 months ago
We absolutely loved our stay here! Our hosts went above and beyond to make us feel at home and were extremely helpful to us and even offered us rides and gave us seasonings to cook our dinner when we got in late. The place is adorable and felt very peaceful and safe. 10/10 would recommend!

Palmento Grove Garifuna Live-In Experience

DeniseRating, 5 stars14 months ago
We absolutely loved our stay. The little cabin was perfect and private. There were so many birds right around us. Uwahnie made us breakfast both mornings that was absolutely delicious. We had access to kayaks to use anytime so went for several paddles. Paddling across to the island was a huge part of the charm. We participated in the Cultural Day and learned about the Garifuna culture. During this we made traditional Hudut for lunch. Absolutely delicious! We plan on going back to stay next time we are in Belize. A wonderfully quiet and secluded (but close to town) place to stay.
A wooden outdoor dining table is positioned on a covered porch, surrounded by wooden chairs. A mug rests on the table, overlooking a lush green lawn and a view of the coastline, with palm trees gently swaying in the breeze.

Private Island Villa for 8 in Belize

GeoffRating, 5 stars3 months ago
Peter and his team are awesome. Ms. Velda cooked up some great meals with local fish, chicken and veggies. Ms. Dali was an incredible hostess. Mr. Melvin maintained impeccable grounds, showed us where to fish and where to swim. Peter was super helpful in arranging tours and providing tips for other parts of our trip. This is a very special place...perfect for slowing way down as you sit on the deck over the water and watch the waves, wildlife, and stars at night. We will be back, with a few friends next time! It is better than the pictures or website capture (even though they are great!).

Therapy - Cabin 1 at St. George's Caye

SamanthaRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This is a very private location and great to just relax. We loved cabin 1 with the view of the water. We spent a good amount of time relaxing in the hammocks on the dock. Being that there are no stores or restaurants, we took advantage of Emily’s cooking and it was great! Eugene took us on a very adventurous snorkel trip and was a great captain to/from Belize City. Omar was such a kind and polite help with everything. Notes for future travelers: There is a full kitchen and plenty of drinking water. You can haul groceries in and cook but we definitely recommend Emily’s meals. Bug repellent is a must. We definitely recommend a couple of days on this caye if you are looking for a slow paced location.

Hideaway Caye. Your Own Little Island!

NathanRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Amazing! Such a unique experience with lovely hosts. A beautiful location to spend time relaxing, snorkeling or fishing on the property or real close by. You can always get picked up form their dock for other excursions too if you wish (they helped us arrange a fly fishing trip and we snorkeled the barrier reef). The food that was included with the airbnb was delicious - most of it caught by the hosts or nearby fisherman. We actually ate Conch and a barracuda we watched them catch when they took us to a secret snorkeling spot. Nights are quiet and bug free. Reminder that there is no cell phone service in the Airbnb which, trust me, can be a good thing for relaxing. Finally, I can't say enough about the hosts - such a lovely family that we enjoyed sharing stories, laughing and playing cards with. I hope to be back real soon!

Therapy - Cabin 3 at St. George's Caye

ShanaleeRating, 5 stars6 months ago
We loved our honeymoon at the Therapy cabins! Although there is the option to have Eugene take you on adventures, or to nearby areas for tours, we took the opportunity to slow down, relax and read books in the hammocks on the dock for a few days (with some kayaking around the island). The cabin was spotlessly clean and the mini split AC unit in the bedroom could get it impressively cool at night. Emily’s cooking was phenomenal and would absolutely recommend doing this, we did only breakfasts and dinners and could hardly finish the leftovers for lunch. It was so amazing the level of luxury on this off the grid island! The therapy dogs Bella and Bruno were an added bonus for these dog lovers, they helped us spot dolphins on multiple occasions. We absolutely recommend and hope to come back!

Alma Del Rio Eco-comfort on the water / La Alma

JessicaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property. It was a good location for excursions & lots to do on the property. We had 4 adults staying at the house (any more would've felt a little too tight in my opinion). I was looking for a place with river access and accessibility to town, while prioritizing sustainability. Hadas is well liked & respected by the locals. The roads are well maintained & easy to navigate. We had our own car but the tour company, Explore Inland, picked us up for the Barton Creek and ATM tour from the property, which was nice & convenient. We ate at Carms which was close & delicious one night and ventured into town for other meals (15 min drive). We enjoyed having coffee & watching the bird feeder every morning. We saw a toucan several times on the property & enjoyed a digital detox away from TVs and screens, while still having AC in the bedroom and internet. We ended our stay with a massage on the porch by Dora which was the best one I have ever had!

The outside deck is massive and much bigger than we expected and we spent hours on there just to enjoy the view and the tranquility. The cabin is very new and in excellent conditions. Perfectly located at the beginning of the Spanish Lookout, super easy to reach restaurants, supermarkets within a few minutes drive. Great place, great host, we'd be happy to come back!

Walkable to everything in Placencia (beach, restaurants, coffee shops, market) Very comfortable beds and pillows. Unit was clean and cool, and the upstairs patio was very nice early in the morning when still cool. Yola was very responsive and helpful! There was some construction, but it was fairly quiet and only during daytime hours, as promised by the hostess. Enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again!

Gran Martina's Abode - Cozy apartment w/ WiFi&AC

RitaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Gran Martina's Abode went above expectations. The outside looks like a building under construction. The inside is high end, perfect! Everything you could want and more. The owners greeted us. They live in the same building and are so gracious and friendly. They are very communicative. There were bananas and cookies on the table. The refrigerator was stocked with breakfast items, eggs, bread, milk, juice and more. There is refrigerator with coffee and a milk brother. This was so nice as we were tired from traveling and were able to have a leisurely morning. The bed is very comfortable. The location is up a big hill, 5 minute walk to town. We would highly recommend staying here.

The Blue Turtle

MichaelRating, 5 stars2 months ago
This was my third stay at the Tortuga Azul. I’ve come down with friends to dive and relax. The location is very close to the Caulker airport, just a short walk. I would definitely recommend renting a golf cart though. Most of the action in town is a short ride away, and for super early morning dive departures, it’s nice to be able to ride. There is a restaurant basically next door, Suggestion Gourmet. Its not the typical island fare, more of a French place, but it’s the most serene setting. I can’t speak to all of the beds, but the one I’ve slept in every year has been comfortable. The rooms all have individual AC, so you can sleep at your own preferred temp. The property manager, Michael, is quick to respond via What’s App. I will continue to stay at Tortuga for my repeat trips to the island.

GrantRating, 5 stars1 month ago
As beautiful and peaceful as we were hoping! Such a great setting, very easy to find and super central to both Maya Beach and just a 20-min drive to Placencia. Publics grocery is 8-min drive south, and loads of close restaurants. We used the kayaks and even fished in them across the lagoon. Star gazed at night from the dock, and cooked in the fully equipped and stocked kitchen. Herbert provided absolutely anything you could ever need and then some. Seriously, not just sun block and bug spray, but like 3 kinds. Numerous different towels and beach towels, umbrellas, spices and oils/marinades in the kitchen, not only kayaks and bikes, but a fishing pole and net, multiple sizes life jacket, super strong WiFi, you name it. Great bathroom with big tub and strong water pressure. Sitting on the deck listening to the lagoon was mesmerizing. Obviously a lot of planning went into the thoughtful details and we absolutely loved our stay. Thank you Herbert!

Sue's Secret Home

ErynnRating, 5 stars2 days ago
Sue's place is amazing. Unbelievably clean, beautifully maintained, and Sue is super friendly and responsive. From here I walked safely and easily to Cahal Pech, the green iguana breeding facility, the Ajaw cacao tour, the Maya Walk tour start point, MANY restaurants, the open air market. A few doors uphill is a nice little convenience store for toiletries, simple groceries, meds, snacks, cold drinks, alcohol. Very reasonable prices. I will be returning here with my family!! It is seriously the perfect place. PS - Understand the country. It may be a more noisy neighborhood than you are accustom to (or not if you are from New York City or similar). I sleep lightly, and was totally fine with earplugs. In Belize not everyone has running water & electricity - even in San Ignacio. So, the AC and whole place is luxury. Even the nice hotel I stayed in had freeze-dried coffee in the lobby and restaurant (none in room), but Sue's amazing kitchen had a coffee maker!! I was very excited.

Relaxing Private Villa, Belize

CamRating, 5 stars2 months ago

Your guide to Belize

Welcome to Belize

Perched on the Caribbean Sea and threaded with vast and varied ecosystems, Belize offers abundant open spaces, diverse wildlife, and stunning stretches of ocean. You’ll find lush rainforests, savannas, wetlands, pine forests, and mighty networks of mangrove trees here. These lands are home to a rich panoply of animals, including jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, and riotously colored birds like scarlet macaws and toucans. Off its tranquil sandy shores you’ll find hundreds of cayes and the world’s second-largest barrier reef. Ecotourism and outdoor activities rule the day here: you can hike, snorkel, and zipline through breathtaking scenery. Belize — where many residents are multilingual and English, Belizean Creole, and Spanish are spoken — also boasts a rich ancient history, and is dotted with Mayan ruins. You can easily plan trips here paced to explore it all, or simply snuggle into a hammock on one of the many cays and ponder the deep blue sea.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Belize

Late winter to early spring is high season in Belize, when the weather is warm and sunny, but not humid or scorching. Expect lots of other visitors to frequent the most popular sites during this time too. May and November can be hot and humid, and the summer and fall experience heavy rainfall and possible hurricanes. The country celebrates its independence from the United Kingdom on September 21, preceded by two weeks of festivities including parades, street parties, and live music.

Top things to do in Belize

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary

This lush and wild place is the world’s largest jaguar preserve, and if you attend a guided night tour you may see one of these beautiful, shy big cats. But they aren’t the only highlight of this 128,000 acre rainforest. You may also spy ocelots, deer, and tapirs — cute creatures that look a bit like a cross between a pig and a panda. Birders will be in their element, as more than 300 species thrive here.

Belize Barrier Reef

The Belize Barrier Reef System — which includes hundreds of sand cays and mangrove forests — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most scenic places in the world. Snorkelers will be delighted by the rainbow-colored tropical fish that live here, while scuba divers can explore the famed Great Blue Hole, a deep marine sinkhole populated by hammerhead sharks. After a day in the water, you can relax in nearby Ambergris Caye, a supremely pretty (and popular) destination.

Xunantunich

Explore the ancient Mayan history of Belize at this fascinating archaeological site. Its grounds include six plazas and more than 25 temples, including the 130 foot El Castillo decorated with carved friezes. Used as a ceremonial center, the site’s history is still being unearthed today. In 2016, archaeologists undercovered what may be the largest royal tomb in all of Belize.
