Old Wine Villa

Welcome to Paradise! Come stay at our cozy Villa with a splendid Atlantic ocean view by the infinity pool! This house was first built in 1932 and since then it has been know as "Casa do Vinho Velho", "The Old Wine House". My great-grand mother used to tell stories about the old man "Vinho Velho" and his passion for his wine and agriculture. The house has been updated but we have kept old features, like an old brick oven in the kitchen and 3 stone rocks for vine hanging in the living room!

It has breathtaking views , allows you to leave all stress behind and enjoy the natural beauty of Madeira. Excellent place to rest with easy access to many tourists attractions. Apartment is located 5 min. drive to sandy Calheta beach. 25 fountain walk begin is about 10min. drive from apartment.

Has 2 bedrooms (one with a double bed and the other with two single beds easily convertible into a double bed), a complete bathroom, a social toilet, open space with kitchen / living and dining room, furniture and careful decoration. The villa was beautiful - stunning location - and perfectly furnished. Lovely walk to Ponta do Sol village but the walk back is not for the faint hearted - Bolt is available :-) Whilst there were a few teething issues on arrival, Rita was super responsive and helpful in sorting any problems and our stay was great. It was a lovely stay in a stunning villa with amazing views and we would love to come back.

This Villa is amazing. It has everything you need and the view is great, especially in the evening. Two popular hiking trails are very close (either go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds). Diana gave us great recommendations for brunch and parking in Funchal and overall we really enjoyed our stay. The pool heating costs extra unfortunately, which was the only downside of this otherwise great stay. We definitely recommend it and would come back anytime!

Great stay! The accommodation is spectacular, large spaces and very bright. Located in a quiet area, but within walking distance of restaurants and a small full grocery store.

Our wonderful host Sofia stopped by before we left and said “Isn’t it magical?” … it sure is and more. You will need nothing; you will want nothing more; you may forget all your plans to hike, find miradouro’s, and explore, because Villa Papaya is simply mesmerizing and keeps you in your happy place. If you must leave this Villa, it is close enough to just about everywhere you’ll want to go. José and Sofia are excellent at what they do; take advantage of this opportunity if you can, It’s Magical!

We were in good hands in this beautiful apartment. Since private accommodation is in a residential area, there may be something going on during the day, but as a tourist you are usually on the go anyway. The best equipped kitchen we've ever seen. You think of everything that you don't have to buy yourself because of a week. Shop and restaurant also within walking distance. Good internet. Hope to see you again!

We had a lovely week staying in this beautiful family run Air BnB. Highlights included the garden and seating areas, the views to the sea and the fully stocked kitchen. You definitely need a car as it's a bit of a drive to restaurants and to the main points of interest, although we would definitely recommend exploring other less well travelled hiking trails too.
