Rincón Metztitlán Cabins

MarisolRating, 5 stars1 week ago
A beautiful place, perfect to get away from all the city bustle as it allows you to be in touch with nature, a majestic landscape between plants and mountains. The place is more spacious than what is shown in the photos and allows a pleasant and comfortable stay, with very nice spots for photos, perfect for going with family or friends. Mr. Pompeyo, with the help of Mr. Arturo, was very helpful and kind at all times. We'll definitely be back.

Everything was great, we really liked the place and everything was very clean, recommended 😊
A stunning landscape is displayed, featuring rolling hills and a sea of clouds below. The sky transitions from orange to soft purple, captured during sunrise. A rustic wooden fence outlines the scene, with trees providing natural framing on either side.

Cabin, Glamping, Vintage, Luxury @mirador_tzoncuey

MarkRating, 5 stars47 months ago
Suffering from lockdown fatigue in our small apartment, my wife and I were looking for somewhere to decompress in the the beautiful tropical highland cloud forest of Hidalgo. Glamping Tzoncuey completely exceeded our expectations, and we can't recommend it enough. It's not just in the vicinity of the cloud forest-- it's perched dramatically on the edge of a precipitous canyon with a view from its huge windows directly on the cloud forest. The daily mist swoops up the canyon, and we never got tired of watching it, either from the big windows in the living room or from the balcony where we ate. The view would go from completely enveloped in mist one moment to gloriously clear. Most of the time the mist would swirl up in wisps or streams of varying density, sometimes turning the trees into mere silhouettes, and all of it was gorgeous and relaxing, exactly what the doctor ordered. The living room with the big windows also had a fireplace. It was fantastic to be able to go for a walk in the woods and come back tired and enjoy the view of the forest and the mist with a nice fire going. Speaking of the forest, it is fantastic. There aren't that many places where it is so easy to visit such a nice cloud forest in Mexico. Tzoncuey has practically all of the signature cloud forest tree species all packed into one small private reserve. This place is ideal for nature lovers, students, or biologists looking for a great place to get close to the cloud forest. It is amazingly varied in just a small space-- the walk to the waterfall passes through at least five different forest types, from very "tropical" feeling, with giant nettle trees, huge tree ferns, the occasional Magnolia, and lots of tropical flowering herbs and shrubs, to very "temperate," with a lot of plants that people from the forests of the eastern US would know, like alder, hornbeam, liquidambar, linden, pines, oaks, and even black tupelo. We don't know birds, but we imagine that this would be a paradise for bird lovers. Just in front of the cabin there is a huge wild plum tree, and when it's in fruit it must be a bird magnet. The lodging has the living room I already mentioned, a bathroom (hot water is a luxury in these cool, moist highlands!), a terrace with a great view, and two bedrooms. The kitchen is downstairs and consists of a single gas burner with a huge flame, plus a grill we got going with the wood provided and grilled up some nice chicken. Thursday through Sunday the lower floor is a restaurant, so we didn't use the kitchen so as not to get in the way. The restaurant has yummy food and and is a great place to mingle with families that come from all over the region to enjoy the view and hang out in a pleasant atmosphere. Another remarkable feature was that there was flawless wifi. This was super helpful because we could come back from the woods and figure out what plants we had seen. Otherwise identifying them would have been a lot harder. It worked so well that this would be a great place for a working retreat. Demetrio and his family were really attentive to all our requests and questions and an amazing source of information about the area. They told us that if we gave them a little lead time, they could organize the making of the famous zacahuil, Hidalgo's giant tamal, and we very much hope to take them up on this. They have done a great job of making a pretty much ideal hideaway in the beautiful, magical cloud forest. We will definitely be coming back.
