It is about a 10-minute drive to Arakawa and Iwabata, where you can descend the Nagatoro Line. It is dotted with historic temples, so it is recommended to visit the power spots. You can actively move your body with paragliding, kayaking, rafting, and SUP experiences, or rent a bicycle and take a leisurely ride through the town. Nagatoro has many delicious udon and soba shops. Harvesting chestnuts, grapes, Nagatoro strawberries, and more is also fun. If you're lucky, you'll see an SL train running on the Chichibu Railway, which runs parallel to the national highway! A 50-second walk from the log house, about 90 steps to the trampoline park (reservation required) where you can play with your children to your heart's content, and have an early BBQ dinner in the garden. In the evening, if the weather is good, you can talk quietly around the fire under the stars, or have some grown-up time relaxing while watching the flames of the wood stove, with the lights in the room turned off. Fuji from this driving route is absolutely stunning.The building is a fairly spacious 180-m² single-family home, and I think you will feel a sense of luxury thanks to its size. Please consider my guesthouse as your own and enjoy a truly relaxing stay. Daily Yamazaki is a 4-minute walk (open 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM). The supermarket is 6 minutes by car (Okajima: open 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM) To the east, south, and west, there are mountains, and no private homes. 5-minute drive to Tsuru Country Club and Tsuru Golf Club. There is a municipal hot spring, Basho Tsukimachi-no-Yu, a 7-minute drive away, and there is also a high-quality hot spring in the mountains, which I highly recommend (open 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM, closed Mondays). Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.
