If you step through the front door into the small enchanted courtyard, the view of the ivy-covered city wall opens up, and a shady seat invites you to linger. Climbing the centuries-old wooden steps up to my apartment is like entering a bygone era. Then as now, the Ilm flows directly past the house - a quietly rushing continuum.
