Time travel to the Meiji era. Nature and historic buildings.

MalteRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
I don’t even know how to start – this place is so magical that I almost didn’t want to write a review, just to keep it to myself. Staying here was everything I dreamed of: a traditional Japanese house, nestled deep in the forest on a mountain, surrounded by stunning nature. It’s simple in the most beautiful way – grounding, peaceful, and full of atmosphere. We stayed in two separate houses, both spacious, clean, and incredibly cozy. Sleeping on tatami mats, cooking in the rustic kitchen, grilling at the fire pit – every moment felt special. Our host was warm and welcoming, and even checked in to see if we needed anything. A small note: don’t come with a large car. The narrow mountain road and the steep driveway are a bit of an adventure themselves – but they are absolutely worth it. This place touched us deeply and has become a true place of longing. We’ll definitely come back and stay longer next time. Thank you for sharing this gem with the world.

Small inn attached to a historic school building

Kaori is a true lover of the land and school, she is guarding her family's childhood memories and is precious. In addition to Goyou, there are actually two shower bathing places, and there are three modern toilets, which are not mentioned in the introduction, so the bathroom and bathing facilities on site exceeded my expectations! It is very suitable for families with children, and it is also suitable for "small beans by the window". I want to know the Japanese post-war mountain elementary school model to the experience, there are artists who have an artistic cooperation project here, with a sense of art and history.Thank you again Kaori for the care and care of the elementary school, and we had the pleasure of witnessing the history.
A spacious interior features traditional wood beams and tatami flooring, illuminated by soft hanging lights. Sliding doors separate distinct areas, showcasing green frosted windows that enhance natural light. Minimalist furniture adds to the serene environment, creating an open and relaxed atmosphere.

Enjoy the starry sky surrounded by greenery in a private old house - great value for 2 or more people and long stays! About a 5-minute drive to the sea! Bonfire available upon request

Amazing find. Hidden treasure. Sorrounded by a lush green forrest and the sounds of birds. Not a super easy find. Very narrow road, the last couple of meters. (We felt like entering a hidden world from a Studio Ghibli movie: or at least understood the experience these are based on.) The nearest supermarked is a 15 minute drive. We loved the supermarked at 20 minutes. Close to the Hashiguiiwa Rocks. There were some very large spiders, especially after a night of rain, and I am anxious, but still: this was my favourite AirBnB stay in eight days Japan. Very much recommended!

A house with a beautiful stream flowing in front of it, limited to one group per day on the Kumano Kodo

ThandiweRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This place is very peaceful. It’s private and surrounded by forest, right next to a clear running river. There’s a nice braai area. Everything is spotlessly clean. Nice bath in the house and all amenities. The area is close to a bus stop on the kumano kodo route which makes it easy. Highlight is definitely the host, Junpei, who was incredibly helpful and friendly! Junpei helped us with storing our heavy bags for the kumano kodo which was incredible. He was also very caring and checked that we were okay on every account. It felt like staying at a friends house and we felt very comfortable and looked after. Absolutely perfect.
