Traverse City Retreat - Close to Downtown & Beach

DanRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
Perfect location and a wonderful host! Far enough away from downtown for privacy, but close enough where it’s easy to get to everything (downtown Traverse City, Old Mission wineries, etc) also there’s a very nice walking path in the back, which is a great way to start the morning. Highly recommend!

WONDERFUL! Look no further. Best Airbnb in town. We absolutely love staying here. It checks every box: super clean, incredibly comfortable, and convenient - perfect location close to downtown Traverse City and just a short drive to so many great local adventures. Erin is an exceptional host. Thoughtful, responsive, and full of helpful recommendations. You can truly feel how much she cares about both the home and her guests. This was our second stay here, and it definitely won’t be our last!

We loved our stay at the Hoxie Homestead. The location was central to all of northern Michigan’s cute towns and beaches. The property was clean and well laid-out. Loved the decor, and the master bed was super comfy and soft. The hot tub and sauna were perfect. We would certainly stay again.

Urban Gem: Mins to Beach & Downtown W/Hot tub!

BreannaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Where do I start… this was the perfect getaway for myself, my husband and our fur baby. The house was exactly as described and is placed in the most peaceful neighborhood - while also being minutes away from everything Traverse City has to offer! Ramy is the most wonderful host; answering all our questions and suggesting some great local spots as well. We felt immediately at ease and truly could enjoy our vacation thanks to Ramy and this perfect lil home. We hope to be back next time we visit Traverse City! ☺️

Romantic Retreat for Two + Pup Near TC & Dunes

JimRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Great location, great host and great accommodation! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The dog friendliness of this listing was the biggest appeal for us. The only minor issue we had was we needed a space heater for the bedroom at night - lows were getting down into the 30s over Memorial Day weekend and Denise got us one right away. Thanks for a great stay!

It was the perfect mix of peaceful and convenient—just a short, easy bike ride into town, with quick access to the bike trail, great restaurants, beautiful dune hikes and Lake Michigan beaches ... all within minutes from the natural surroundings . There’s much to do in the area and it's all close by. Suz is friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend

Leelanau wooded retreat - Traverse City

CourtneyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We were so happy with our stay at Amanda and Ryan's guesthouse. Our family of four (two adults, two teens) wanted a homebase to explore Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes and this was the perfect spot right in between that gave us easy access to everything. The pictures of the main bedroom don't do it justice - it was large and so comfortable! Our daughters enjoyed the sleeping loft (it's a cozy fit, but very fun to have your own ladder access!). The cupboards were stocked with everything we could possibly have needed - amazing what Amanda and Ryan were able to tuck away for guests to use. We brought our own wood for a night at their firepit and really enjoyed listening to the birds in their surrounding woods as we drank morning coffee. Definitely recommend this as a cozy, comfortable stay!

Spacious Condo at The Commons, Walkable Shops

KurtRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Perfect location and exactly what we needed. Very quiet. Grounds were beautiful. My only question going in was if the brew pub in the same building would be a distraction but definitely was not. Actually the opposite. We had multiple nice visits there, friendly staff and closes early too. The immediate surrounding area was very quiet and peaceful after 9 PM Saturday night The ability to temporarily pull up to the ground level front door to unload vehicle was handy. So many food and drink options within a few minute walk and great hiking trails right behind building up into hills west of TC were also great. Would stay again for sure. The history of the facility is very interesting and would recommend taking one of the tours available.

Top-Floor 1BR | Downtown TC | Shops & Dining

KathrynRating, 5 stars1 week ago
I hesitate to say all of the wonderful things I am about to say because this rental will get solidly booked and I’ll have a hard time getting it for my next getaway!!!! Carrie was wonderful, start to finish, with a flexible checkout time so I could sleep in for my birthday getaway! The place was immaculate with such a comfy homey feeling. Super-comfortable firm bed, comfy living room and perfectly stocked kitchen and bathroom. It was quiet for good sleeps and room darkening shades created a sleep-in situation. Loved the classy decor, great appliances and ease of getting in and out of this unit! We walked to shows and restaurants and enjoyed the neighborhood. Parking was $20 a day but so easy across the street! Now everyone…go some place else so we can easily stay here whenever we come to TC again!

The Guest House at Blossom Gardens

JayRating, 5 stars7 months ago
Mary was very responsive - had a little trouble with internet when we arrived and Mary was right on it and corrected my mistake. The surroundings were beautiful with the fall colors and the setting was so serene and peaceful. It was exactly what we wanted being close enough to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to enjoy it but far enough away not to be caught in the tourism. Mary was able to give us restaurant suggestions and be super responsive without being overbearing. Overall a truly wonderful stay!!

Private Log Cabin, 4 min walk to Torch Lake

JerssonRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Great place to stay if you’re wanting to be close to the water and get away from the city. However, not worth the price we paid. Although, it was a very busy weekend and that was all that was available for us. It’s a cozy cabin but no WiFi and you will have to clean up and strip the bed before leaving which is something I don’t particularly enjoy when I’m already overpaying for a place to stay. But if you happen to book it on a cheaper date and you’re looking for a getaway with close access to the lake, this is a good find. It was comfy but again, only complaint was the price.

Your guide to Traverse City

All About Traverse City

Traverse City has emerged as one of the most charming getaways along the Lake Michigan shore, beloved for its natural setting, its historic small-town architecture, and its vibrant music and art scene. Whether you’re exploring by bike or car, you'll want to devote a day to the majestic Sleeping Bear Dunes, and spend several more visiting wineries and small coastal towns such as Williamsburg, Glen Arbor, and Suttons Bay. A finger of land extends from Traverse City into Lake Michigan, splitting Grand Traverse Bay in two, and you can drive its length to the lighthouse at the end. This corner of northern Michigan is known for its cherry orchards, and summer offers a profusion of fresh fruit and pies. There’s even a cherry festival in July.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Traverse City

The lower peninsula of Michigan has four distinct seasons. Both spring (April-May) and fall (October-November) are gorgeous, with cool temperatures and plenty of color, whether spring wildflowers or autumn leaves. Summer begins properly in June, which boasts some of the best weather of the year. Peak heat and peak humidity arrive together in July and August, with many days in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit. While sunny days are frequent in summer, so are rains, so bring rain jackets along with your shorts and sunblock, and keep bug spray around for the evening mosquito onslaught. Winters this far north get cold — really cold — and plenty of snow comes off the lake. Pack plenty of layers and sturdy outerwear.

Top things to do in Traverse City

Sleeping Bear Dunes

Stretching along 64 miles of Lake Michigan coast, Sleeping Bear Dunes is a national treasure. During the warm months, you can relax on the sandy beaches and canoe in the rivers. The 22-mile paved Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is the easiest to navigate by foot, bike, and wheelchair; other trails for hikers climb up the bluffs or plunge into the forests.

Village at Grand Traverse Commons

Not far outside downtown Traverse City is a complex of striking Victorian brick buildings and wooded parklands. This former psychiatric hospital, which opened in 1885 and closed a century later, fell into disrepair until a massive redevelopment project brought it back to life. Now it is home to condos, offices, and boutiques. You can take a historic tour of the unrestored buildings and tunnels, or stick to the restaurants, bars, and a warren of artisan shops.

Interlochen Center for the Arts

Most years, Interlochen, located 15 miles south of Traverse City, hosts hundreds of concerts, theater performances, and other events. Many are free and outdoors, and their frequency crescendos in summer, when the center’s youth camps draw students from all over the world.
