Apollonia is located a few kilometers from Vlora. Apollonia was founded in 588 BC, in a locality occupied by Illyrian tribes. The city flourished during the Roman period and was home to a renowned school of philosophy. The decline, however, began in the III AD. when – among other things – an earthquake devastated its port.

Apollonia was an Ancient Greek trade colony that developed into an independent polis, and later a Roman city in southern Illyria in classical antiquity. It was located on the right bank of the Aoös/Vjosë river, approximately 10 km from the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. This historical and beautiful place to visit is only 14 km far from Aulona Hotel.
