Apollonia is located a few kilometers from Vlora.
Apollonia was founded in 588 BC, in a locality occupied by Illyrian tribes. The city flourished during the Roman period and was home to a renowned school of philosophy. The decline, however, began in the III AD. when – among other things – an earthquake devastated its port.

Kuzum Baba is therefore the sacred place, the Teqqe, of this religious current and takes its name from Baba (Father) Kuzum, the spiritual leader of the Bektashi community of Sufi-dervishi silk who, according to local tradition, is buried there. Confirming this cultural and religious puzzle of the city, Kuzum Baba's Teqqe stands on the hill adjacent to the eastern side of the Mosque.
The Kuzum Baba can be reached by car or, a hundred meters from the Mosque, one takes a thousand steps to climb the hill on foot.
For the Valonese, Kuzum Baba is above all the hill overlooking the gulf for an afternoon coffee.
