The presence of different religions and their coexistence has always aroused interest and curiosity in Albania. In Vlora this mix is extraordinarily rich by virtue of the presence of the Jewish community and the secular and tolerant tradition of the city. The Bektashi community (Bectascì) is also strong in the city landscape. Kuzum Baba is therefore the sacred place, the Teqqe, of this religious current and takes its name from Baba (Father) Kuzum, the spiritual leader of the Bektashi community of Sufi-dervishi silk who, according to local tradition, is buried there. Confirming this cultural and religious puzzle of the city, Kuzum Baba's Teqqe stands on the hill adjacent to the eastern side of the Mosque. The Kuzum Baba can be reached by car or, a hundred meters from the Mosque, one takes a thousand steps to climb the hill on foot. For the Valonese, Kuzum Baba is above all the hill overlooking the gulf for an afternoon coffee.
