Family-friendly vacation rentals in Shimoda

My husband and I had 3 great nights at Hill Top house. It was certainly dramatic excentuated by our arrival in the dark on the first night and waking in the morning to glorious sunshine and stunning views out to the Pacific, not to mention the monkey troop walking along the tree line behind the house. The house is as described and is a modernist gem. We would not hesitate to stay again. We only wished we had booked it for longer.

Place was small and cozy but able to accommodate large group. About 15 minute walk to train station. Location is nice for Hakone.

It was a great place. The barbecue environment was also good, and I was able to enjoy it even more by using the basement. I'd love to stay again if I get the chance next time

It was on the mountain, so I was prepared for insects to come out seasonally, but the inside was very clean anyway, it was clean, and the insects were about one spider. There were no missing amenities or facilities, and the place was well cleaned, and we had a pleasant time.We also saw Mt. Fuji from the terrace, and it was a lovely stay.I would like to stay there again.

The beach is right there, you can see the sea even if you are sitting in the dining room, the stars are beautiful, the location was great!It was a family trip for three generations, but I would like to come back again. There is no microwave, so I thought that if you have small children, you need to be creative with your belongings.

It was a very pleasant trip! I made a last-minute request, but they handled it politely, and when I mentioned that I wanted to see the sunrise from the rooftop, they even told me what time it was.The hot springs were very pleasant, and the accommodation was comfortable, so we all said it was good that we stayed here. LOVELY private onsen in Hakone! The place is just so lovely. Clean and tidy. Gabriel, the host is friendly and super responsive. Really enjoy staying here! Will definitely come back!

It had a lot of amenities

The owner was fantastic and very responsive, even took us to the local grocery store. The house is on the side of the hill in an incredibly quiet and serene location with complete privacy. The outdoor hot bath was incredible, too, and a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. Overall it was a great place to stay and would recommend it for anyone staying in Atami.

We had an amazing time during our 3 day weekend ! Place was exactly as per the pictures and we had the feeling of being in another country ! Beach really close by (walkable distance but with hill to get back to the house), convenient store and grocery shopping near by if you have a car. Would happily come back for holidays !

The parking lot was very spacious, and there was an Aeon supermarket about a 5-minute drive away, which was very convenient for transportation.The kitchen was stocked with lots of nice dishes and we enjoyed cooking.In the morning, you can see the sea from the room, and there are lush vegetation lined with lush vegetation by the window, which was very healing.Thank you for a pleasant and heartwarming stay.If I get the chance again, I'd love to use it!

It was a perfect place to stay. This time, we stayed with a family of three, but the night view was beautiful because the weather was good, and there were no buildings around, so we had a very quiet time. It was the best time with an unobstructed view in the morning. Next time, I want to come with a large group, including friends and other families, and have a barbecue.

We stayed in this lovely home just outside of town, nestled in nature, for one month and felt right at home. Abhi is a most generous and considerate host, he helped us out from start to finish and made sure we had the best time in the Shimoda area. You do not need a car if staying here as the beach and a couple of restaurants are only about a 10 min walk from the house and convenience store about 20 minutes and a couple more good restaurants / bars about 35 minutes. But if you want to visit more sites in the area or go to the grocery store we'd recommend a car. The main reason we were visiting the area was to dive with the huge schools of Hammerhead sharks just off the coast here. Without a car the dive center can pick you up. We highly recommend Abhi's place. good wifi good AC big TV well equipped kitchen washing machine

Abhi was an amazing host. He was waiting for our arrival and walked us through the property. His place has awesome character, like high quality speakers (audiophiles would enjoy this). During our stay, Abhi offered us fresh fruits from his garden. It was an extremely personable experience.

We really appreciated Yuji's quick responses, he was very helpful with our booking. The place was very clean and just what we were looking for.

we really enjoyed our stay at the house. The second floor is large and cozy with plenty of room and we used the grill on the covered balcony. It’s a nice neighborhood just up the road from Kisami beach. Thank you!

The location from the city was good and it was a pleasant stay

In the middle of nature, I enjoyed plenty of meals on the terrace while watching the flowers in the garden.It felt open and private at the same time, and it was a special getaway with a hot spring and a great view to ourselves.There is a polite guide in the house, so I didn't get lost in how to use the facilities, and I felt the host's hospitality everywhere, such as decoration and clean bedding. I will stay there again. Thank you so much!

We had a great stay. Hosts were very helpful with recommendations and getting us cabs into town. The beach was perfect for our 3 kids and a very close walk from the house. They had lots of boogie boards and surf boards available to rent. The Kitchen was well equipped and we loved they had multiple refrigerators since the space used to be a restaurant. The bedrooms were very good size for multiple people. Air conditioning worked great in the bedrooms and living room. We loved the huge deck for relaxing! Laundry was a bit difficult as there is no dryer. Places to hang dry your clothes were available. One down side to the house is there is no bathroom upstairs, and all the bedrooms were up stairs. I would Deffinetly recommend this great beach house! Thanks guys for a great time.

Stayed here with some teammates (4 adults +1 child) for the 2025 Va'a Japan Nationals Race. The cozy space was wonderful and had everything we needed to feel right at home and set up a base to compete from. The larger fridge and fully stocked kitchen was a must and the available laundry amenities and clothing lines came in handy since we were constantly cycling through wet clothes. The proximity to the beach was great and we were able to pop back in and rest between the events whenever we wanted. It was also close to a great restaurant and a cluster of vending machines. Unforgettable stay!

Rumi was an awesome host and her place is so well equipped and relaxing. We went in early Spring when it was still very cold and the place was warm and cosy, the living room gets so much sunlight, feels spacious and inviting. We cooked in the well stocked kitchen a few nights and also went to some nearby restaurants. There’s an awesome sourdough pizza place called Fermenco about a 30 min walk away that we loved. And if you come in summer there are so many beaches around but you’ll need a car to get around. Can’t recommend Rumi’s house high enough!

6 adults and 3 children stayed for 1 night. We went to the field to pick the vegetables we would use for the evening BBQ. The kids had fun putting okra in baskets and getting umbrellas with leaves like Totoro had! There was water nearby, and we watched the dragonflies. It looked like you could enjoy looking for creatures and playing in the water. Most importantly, the organic rice grown here was delicious✨, and both adults and children ate their fill of rice!! When my children are a little older, I'd love to come during the autumn harvest season and the rice planting season. At night, there were few street lights, so it was very dark, and the stars and fireworks were very beautiful. There was no⭐️ air conditioning, only a fan, so it was hard at first (mid-August), but I sweated a lot, and I felt the comfort of the breeze and cold water, and the taste of beer, and I thought this might be the best part of the countryside experience. The host was a very nice person, and when we called out to him, he taught us a lot of things, brought us rice and vegetables, doted on the children like they were his grandchildren, and watched over us from a good distance!

It is a very spacious house, "I want to stay in Totoro!"The children were also delighted to play! We would like to stay there again (^ ^)
