This was a great location close to the beach, in a quiet rural area. The home is rustic but has all of the amenities listed, including an annex with a western bedroom for those that may prefer to use the bunkbeds. We stayed in the main building which had a toilet at one end, shower at the other, with plenty of living space. We even made use of the washing machine! The futons were quite comfortable but given the age of the home and traditional constructions there was traffic noise evident at night. While we enjoyed our stay, this home is best suited for those under 5’8” tall…those of us around 6’ have to duck everywhere, especially in the kitchen.

Kurashiki DEN - Modern House - Bikan Chiku

CassandraRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The location is perfect. You don't even realize it until you walk the bikan historic district. The space is very comfortable kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Give yourself at least 4 to 5 days here to walk the temple, shopping, dining, and sight seeing. It really is close to everything. Beds were firm, but extra bedding helped to make them softer. Every room has its own temp control. Outdoor areas are easy to access. There is 1 small TV in 1 bedroom, we didn't use it, we used our laptop for movie nights. Japan doesn't seem to be big on closets or dressers, but we made it work for us. I don't like living out of a suitcase personally so we used a basket and the futons. I would 100% stay here again and we were sad to leave as it really felt like a home away from home.

Honkemorimotoya

It was a house with a sense of history, and it was decorated with lots of art and crafts, making it as fun as an art museum. The air conditioning, lighting, and water area were all up to date, and there was not a single inconvenience during my stay.I remembered after writing this far, but the refrigerator and washing machine were outside (in the yard), so it was a little cold at night when using them.

My family of five stayed for a week. The host was very kind and made us feel at ease and had a good time. While retaining the goodness of an old-fashioned house, the water area was beautifully renovated and I was able to use it comfortably. I stayed in spring this time, but I would definitely like to visit in various seasons.

YADO Whole House (Arty Renovated Traditional Home)

TomRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Jen and Ono’s AirBNB stands out. Not many AirBNBs like this exist any more! Jen was incredibly generous and knowledgeable with her recommendations and insight. It was our third time on Naoshima and we still learned a lot and appreciated some incredible tips. The space itself was homely, clean and lovely, and was a great base for the four of us to explore from. We feel grateful to have stayed here. Thank you Jen and Ono!

Ariake 106 palm tree house

If you come to climb Takaya Shrine, this homestay is a very good choice, and it is also very close to the beach. The room is small but fully equipped, and there is a large terrace where you can barbecue. It is not relatively convenient for people who do not drive, but the distance from the bus is acceptable. There are no convenience stores around, need to buy in advance. The bus time is also long. And because parking is not allowed on the side road, not necessarily on time, you need to go to the bus stop a little beforehand.

Me and my family enjoyed the stay here while we were in Okayama. We could borrow bicycles from the host, so it was very convenient to see the city and go to other places such as malls. The Nishigawara train station was not too far, so we could just walk to the station. Overall the stay was good and we recommend it.

Mari’s place in Okayama is now part of my top 3 favorite places I’ve stayed while visiting in Japan so far! I loved how communicative she was leading up to my stay and during my time there as well. Having an available parking spot at the premises was a great thing to have during my first time experience in renting a car in Japan. She also provided a bicycle for use during my stay which I loved and took advantage of. 😁 The area is very nice and quiet as well and driving around in the city of Okayama for my first time was a great experience. The place was amazing and it also came with a CD player and some CD’s to play as well! I thought this was a nice touch to the place and made Okayama feel like a home I’ve always known. There’s lots to do in the area, the locals are really nice, and the Okayama Prefectural Museum and Castle is all within walking distance. I will definitely be booking Mari’s place again for a longer period of time soon! Thank you Mari! 🖤✌🏾
