The Lakehouse (Lake Baringo)

StevenRating, 5 stars5 months ago
We stayed two nights at the chalet to go birding in the Lake Baringo area. Safe and tranquil spot with lots of birds, including a hornbill that visited our house both mornings that we were there. Kitchen is well-equipped but keep in mind that in Kenya it is common to have refrigerators unplugged until guests arrive so maybe don’t bring a ton of items that need to be refrigerated (we brought some and it was fine but we didn’t load up the fridge). The host would probably be happy to plug in the fridge if you communicate in advance that you will need it right away. The chalet was very clean, but living in the desert there will always be insects so be prepared for a couple harmless common wall spiders and a couple of their friends. There were mosquito nets for both beds. WiFi was excellent. Hot showers! The hosts will offer to arrange tours for you when you arrive which is nice but we politely declined this time. All in all the chalet was a great place for a self-drive birding stop.

Mukinduri Cottage

Tandala exceeded our expectations! The location is excellent being just minutes from the Ranch House Bistro, which is a wonderful restaurant, and less than a half hour from the entrance to Hell’s Gate. Her property is right in the middle of protected land, and it is basically like you are going on a game drive every time you leave and come back! We saw giraffe, zebra, warthogs, buffalo, hippos, etc. just while driving on the road leading up to her house. She also has a viewing platform on the edge of her property, and we saw giraffes and monkeys from there, too! Her place is cozy and charming and the beds are comfortable with nice white comforters. Frankie, herself, goes above and beyond to make your stay nice. Tandala is a true gem, and I highly recommend it.
