This has an amazing bakery, pizzas, a wine shop and great cocktails. Mostly, I head there for dinner in the restaurant which is in the main part of the old chapel with huge windows looking out over Bruton and a contemporary gallery vibe

The Hauser & Wirth gallery opened its space in Bruton in 2014 and has a fun restaurant, Roth Bar & Grill. It’s the kind of place I go to when I have family staying. Usually we’ll order steak, which is aged in its salt chamber.

Beautiful walks in the woods, that leads to a gorge and waterfall...with a few rope swings on the way! Takes about 40 minutes to walk here from the cottage. Directions: Turn Left out of the cottage, and left again onto to the High street, walk for 2 minutes until you see the mini roundabout and The Red Lion. Walk through the pub car park, at the end is a footpath leading down to tennis courts and then eventually a football pitch. Approximately 10 minutes. Follow the path till the end and turn right onto an old track. Follow the track till you reach the woods, cross over a small footbridge, and then after a minute you'll reach a beautiful disused railway track. Turn Left on the railway track and just keep walking. After 10 or 15 minutes you'll come to a road. Cross the road, and follow the footpath signs in between 2 houses, into open fields. Follow footpath signs into the woods and you;ll see the river, a clearing which is beautiful for picnics and has a rope swing. Follow upstream in the woods and you'll find the waterfall!

Walk straight out of the door, through the village and into gorgeous Somerset countryside.....and look out for the swans on the lake! Turn Right along the railway track, follow till the end. Over the style and up some steps, turn right onto the country lane for 2 minutes. On the bend turn left, over the style, past the sewage plant (doesn't smell!), and then left onto the footpath, over a little footbridge, and into the open fields. Bear right along the little lake. There's a lovely picnic spot overlooking the water, with a beautiful restored stone bridge.

Getting Around

There's a bus stopover the road, for both Bath and Bristol. There is a timetable at the cottage, but best to google "FirstBus" which is the local network, and you'll get great up to date information.
