City/town information

Nanango is the fourth oldest town in Queensland. https://www.aussietowns.com.au/town/nanango-qld Originally settled for farming and gold mining. Industry expanded and declined over time to include timber cutting with numerous sawmills, a large forestry establishment, number of cattle and pig sale yards to today where the main industry remains farming with mining now modernizing industry in the area. Like many small towns, changing economic developments change the economy of the town. Where once there was numerous small shops for clothing, haberdashery, hardware's etc, changing socio-economic demography has dictated the variety of stores in town with Kingaroy becoming a larger central point of the area. Nanango still has its own country atmosphere with some great eating places and each first Saturday of the month, country markets at the show grounds - not to be missed.

Sightseeing

Great swimming hole and picnic area. On the way to the Bunya Mountains. There is a short walk from the car parking area down steps and walk ways to the water hole. Advised not to jump off the rocks into the hole as dangerous. No toilet amenities at the water hole.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Drive a little slower on country roads

Drive a little slower on country roads - people underestimate two elements of the country. - The wild life - animals are not trained to look both ways before crossing the road. There are numerous species which will wander aimlessly along and across the roads. Driving slower will allow time to avoid killing the animals. - Narrow Bitumen and dirt roads - driving a little slower will allow you to carefully and timely drive to the side of the road when meeting oncoming cars and trucks. Be mindful with trucks - it is dangerous for them to get to far off the road as they can easily tip.
