The drive from The Gurdies to Kernot through awesome rural views is lovely. Even a single lane wooden bridge! The cafe at Kernot is top notch for good food and atmosphere.

The outskirts of Melbourne are about 40 minutes drive. The CBD about 1 hr and 15 minutes. Melbourne airport 2 hours. If only there for a day recommend a free tram ride around the City.

Sightseeing
Many guests stay here after visiting the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island. It usually take about 50 minutes to drive there. Xmas-Jan due to traffic on PI it takes an extra 40 mins.

Nice patrolled swimming beaches and the best hamburgers in Australia (IMHO). Have been known to drive 50 mins there for one and sit on the side of the awesome road from there to Inverloch eating it.

Corinella has a serious deep water boat ramp and is the local center for fishing as well as a ferry to French Island.

Grannie has the best liquor store in the area. Worth a visit to have lunch satthe picnic spot behind it called "The Shunt Off" with expansive rural views over the water to French Island. My favourite lunch spot with Jade

Lots of cycling tracks and chance to see koalas in the wild. The bike tracks are a bit rough so might be better for mountain bikes. Catch ferry from Corinella $10 per person. $80 or a car.

I like it just for the name but it also has a Sunday antiques market and is a lovely little town in beautiful farm country.

Loch is a lovely little period town with antique shops and cafes set up for visitors. Has a lovely autumn that people come to check out.

Lang Lang is a lovely small town off the highway. Great takeaway (I eat their fish and chips regularly) and small but well stocked supermarket and liquor store.

Essentials
Koowie (as we call it) has a large Woolworths and 7 day a week pharmacy. The asparagus capital of Australia! There is a bypass but it is actually quicker to get to Bass Highway (locals tip).

Caldermeade Farm. Good for kids. They have a public milking shed open about 3.30-4.40pm depending on time of year, where you can show your kids where milk really comes from!
