  • You won't be disappointed, this place is a treasure!

    Sarah2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • The location couldn't be any better, next door to main street and the shops but around the corner so it is quiet. It is not a large space but had every thing we needed and did not feel crowded. Char and Rich were very helpful. The Cave and the Old Jail and Firehouse will be the first place we look when we visit the area again.

  • Clean, adorable room with lots of thoughtful touches. Great bookstore right down the street. And it's a super quick trip to Pikes Peak, Wyalusing State Park, Effigy Mound Park, and the Casino Queen.

Less than 1 mile from the Mississippi, this cozy, modern home is perfect for a weekend at the River! The area is known for boating, hunting, fishing, camping, Pete’s Hamburger stand, along with historical landmarks and numerous recreational activities. Visit the Effigy Mounds hiking trail or Pikes Peak State Park for scenic views of the Mississippi. Dive into the culture of the 2nd oldest city in WI by touring the Fort Crawford Museum or the Villa Louis. Endless adventures await!
Brand new hardwood floors flow throughout the kitchen and hallways with new, plush carpet in the living areas. Every space has been updated and boasts a very comfortable, homey feeling. We bought our 1970's home 2 1/2 years ago in its original condition. Since then, we have worked endless hours on updating and modernizing every square inch of the property. We’ve enjoyed many nights on the outdoor patio hosting friends, grilling out, and playing games, along with cooking s'mores over the fire. Guests have access to all of these amenities as well as a one car garage stall (provided with advanced notice.) If you’re spending the day on the river, take advantage of nearest boat landing less than 1 mile away! We love our home and hope you do too!
The neighborhood is extremely quiet and private as most neighbors are elderly, private and not overly active. Our home is centrally located between downtown, numerous restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. We are one block from a city park and five blocks from the public pool. We are only a short walk from nearby attractions like Prairie Fun Land, restaurants, shopping center and downtown bars.
  • The interior of the house is comfy and stylish! Great place to stay!

Cozy brick cottage with direct river access and a large private beach. A huge open back yard with plenty of room to play. Perfect place to watch the eagles and other wildlife or just sit and relax on the river.
Outdoor electrical outlet for plugging in your boat. Three season porch with fire place for use in fall and winter.
Property is just outside the city limits of Prairie du Chien.
  • Anne's place has a warm atmosphere, it's clean and convenient to get too. The rooms are a good size and the bunk beds are great for a family!

  • Rochelle is an excellent host and Ann’s Place is perfect for a summer or winter trip to Prairie Du Chien.

    Sandra2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing spacious home in a great location, the communication from beginning to end was excellent, each time I had a question, it was answered within minutes. Looking forward to staying again!

  • Great place to get away for a few days and see the fall colors along the Mississippi! Rochelle and her husband, Mark, met us when we arrived and showed us around everything inside and out, very hospitable and enjoyable to talk with. The house was perfect for our stay, had everything we needed, had a fire in the fireplace in the 3 season room one night, made for a cozy evening. The beds were super comfortable and we slept great and woke up fully rested. Spent some time in and around PrairieDuChien, did a little hiking at Effigy Mounds State Park across the river in Iowa. Cooked a few meals while we were there and had everything we needed. The weather, unfortunately, didn't cooperate, but still had a great time!!

    Liz2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Ann’s Place. The hosts were welcoming, the house was inviting, and the area is beautiful. The house is clean and spacious, lots of room to spread out, even though there was just two of us. It’s a great place to come back to after a day of sight seeing. There is also a very nice fire pit area, as well as a big yard. It’s all very private and quiet. There are apparently two resident eagles on the back property, but unfortunately I only spotted them briefly on our last morning there. Lots of other birds to see and listen to though. :) The area itself is very relaxing and welcoming, lots of small communities and parks to explore. We especially enjoyed Effigy Mounds Park, lots of great hiking and sight seeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to recommend Ann’s Place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area. Thank you!

    Christy2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodations for a family to spread out and have space to themselves while still being "cozy" in the living areas. We enjoyed the beautiful new fire pit area, but you need to bring your own wood. The last weekend of September is the opening of Duck Hunting Season...so be prepared for the sound of guns.

  • Great cabin with everything you need, secluded, lots of trails, open floor plan ideal, plenty of space for multiple guests, couldn’t ask for better hosts!

    Janelle2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely amazing! From exploring the cave, to relaxing around the cabin/hot tub. Let’s not forget the brownies! We will definitely be back again!

  • Dick’a cabin was a real treat to stay at in southern Wisconsin. We were very pleased with everything, especially the home hospitality and amazing amenities. We will definitely book again!

    Jonathan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I absolutely loved this place!! It was quiet and secluded!! We really enjoyed playing pool and foosball!! It was so nice to be out under the stars in the hotub!! The cave was awesome too! Also, thank you for the wonderful treats!! We can't wait to plan our next visit! Thank you again Karen and Dick for sharing your wonderful place and great hospitality!!

    Courtney2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place was super great quiet secluded. We got a little lost looking for the cave but dick was nice enough to come pick us up in his off-road vehicle. It was a great conversation with him learning about him and all of his properties. Definitely would return the price is definitely worth the value. If you're looking for something that secluded and want to get away from the craziness of the rushing lifestyle. This is the place to do. Plenty of seclusion for long walks with your dog or grabbing your four-wheelers with a bunch of your buds this place is has everything even in the summer upon with a bunch of bass fish. #1 😁😁 All 5 of us had a great time. Thanks

    Kevin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING!! this place looks like its out of a story book, i was worried a bit being a city slicker and having to drive down a dirt road but you come around a bend and see the most lovely cabin on top of a hill. the porch overlooks the woods and its dreamlike in the morning. the host were angels!! i had an accident during my stay and i was so scared to tell them, they cam up to look at the damage and were so forgiving and understand. their communication is the best I've ever had and we got everything squared away quite quickly. i went in the winter so didn't check out the cave but i'm already planning my next trip in the summer!!!

    Indigo2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so wonderful. Very peaceful and remote but with all the comforts of home.. plus an amazing outdoor hot tub. We loved exploring the cave and took advantage of the fishing nearby. Didn't bring our pups this time, but definitely could have. Can't wait to visit again! Hopefully with some friends or family. And yes.. the brownies were amazing. 🤓

  • Rachel's place was just great for our family!

    Laurie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel’s Place was great. We had a group of 9 and never felt short on space. The kitchen was a great place to cook and folks were able to hang out in the large dinning and living room areas. Very close to Main Street where we held a family gathering. If you have a large group come prepared to utilize the pull out sofas and futon but you really can’t beat the price compared to local hotels for a large group.

    Chad2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean!! And such a great host. We loved staying in this home. The bottle of wine left for us was a super sweet touch:)

    Jen2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Rachel’s. She provided a warm welcome, clearly laid out her expectations/instructions, and provided thorough information about the local dining, wineries, etc! The house was very clean, warm, and welcoming. Our beds were comfortable, she supplied extra pillows, blankets, towels, you-name-it. This stay was exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend Rachel’s place for comfort, amenities, and more.

    Tracy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lots of space, clean and close to down town prairie du chien! Bottle of wine from our host was so great! Wonderful place.

  • Very clean, very comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Excellent spot to stay. Highly recommend.

  • Great atmosphere set in house, loved the location as it was close to Douseman House and The Barn as me, my boyfriend and three kids were there for a wedding. Good amount of room for all of us to stay and get ready in. My two teenaged boys loved that there was Playstation and that they were able to access Netflix. My daughter enjoyed the swing in the porch during down time. Rachel was a great host and responded quickly to questions we had throughout our stay, gave suggestions for pizza ideas for my kids for first night we were there and we loved the gift of wine as well as breakfast options if wanted. Would definitely stay there again and recommend the place to others.

  • Amazing time and a amazing house cant wait to book again with Dave!

    Alan2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our group loves Dave's place! We've stayed there 3 times and have had wonderful experiences every time. Dave works hard to make sure his place is clean and comfy, with so many great amenities. The kitchen and bathrooms are well-stocked with all of the things you'd have at your own home, the beds are new and very comfy, loads of seating if you have a big group, and it's in a great location near downtown and the river. Renting from Dave has always been a smooth, easy process for us. We can't recommend his place enough!

    Valerie2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Dave's house is perfect for a big family or group gathering. Located close to downtown, quiet neighborhood, and lots of room in the house for several guests.

    Vonda2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Bunk House is very cute home!! We were in town for my brothers wedding and had plenty of space for my teenagers to be “teens” and be able to visit with family from another state we’ve not seen in over 15 yrs. You are not going to find a better priced, spacious and homey place to stay in the area. I decide to rent AirBnB/Rental Homes based on 2 things....reviews and owner communication with the host prior to making reservation...both which were top notch!!

    Gala2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place for our family bonding for my niece’s wedding! Dave is great to work with and the place has everything you need for a comfortable stay! Highly recommend staying here! Great value for all the Bunk House can accommodate!

    Cheryl2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The bunk house was a great house! We had 3 families and we had a ton of space. It was close to a park for the kids, close to the restaurants and night life, and close to boat access on the river. We loved it!

    Victoria2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding accommodations for large groups. We needed a place during the week for 5 business people. We all got to claim separate areas of the house for privacy, but was about to cook and eat together too. It was very clean and had a very homey felling. Highly recommend as it was centrally located in Prairie du Chien.

Nestled on a quiet side street in the "pocket city" McGregor, this tudor style cottage hugs the limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi river. With views of the dramatic landscape and quintissential river town, you'll be minutes walk from historic downtown for dining, boating, and antiquing, and a short drive to some of the midwest's greatet hiking, birding, and cross country skiing.
House features a large living room lined with full bookshelves and a futon, dining room and kitchen with the essentials. Cozy study off the living room is ideal for reading and relaxing with views of the Victorian riverport district. Bedrooms are fully furnished with rich wood dressers and plenty of closet space. Decor is charmingly eclectic, reflecting the excellent antique and art scene that can be enjoyed in town. Please note there are stairs to access the house from street level as the only access. Our place does not have a TV or wifi, but there is 4g coverage on most carriers.
Mcgregor offers several great restaurants and a cafe, and antique stores, library, and museum. Pikes Peak State Park is a 5 minute drive or Bike ride and offers hiking trails and picnic areas. I highly recommend Effigy Mounds National Monument, about 10 minutes drive or bike ride North, for great hiking and cultural experience. Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, is across the bridge about 15 minutes drive, offers shopping and most major chains. Boating and fishing along the river is very popular as well.
  • Here is a cozy and uncomplicated place of refuge. Set back from the hub of main street, Matt's place is tucked away and still walk-able to restaurants and pubs. There are shelves of books in almost every room with something for everyone that reads. I plan to make this a regular stay as I come up to hike among the bear effigies.

  • Nice, spacious house in scenic town. We were in town for the holiday, wish we had time to explore McGregor. Good communication and friendly caretakers.

    Brandon2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house was so charming! I love old homes and it was a delight to stay here. Very clean with great kitchen amenities. Bring your own spices for cooking. Just a couple minutes walk from Main Street and all the shops. Thanks for a great weekend! Unrelated to the house: If you take the stairway across the street down to Main Street, be careful. I rolled my foot on a broken step. Again, this is not on the property, it's a public stairway across the street.

    Allison2019-10-13T00:00:00Z

A beautiful 20 min drive to some of the best small river canoeing in the midwest on the Kickapoo or Pine River. Check out the local wineries, Amish markets and apple orchards.
Gravel road off the highway takes you past Three Witches Stables, Reads Creek and the neighboring property . Ours is secluded and set back off the road with no other structures or lights in view.
  • Perfect, quiet getaway. We enjoyed having our three dogs along, visiting local flea markets, and hiking at the Kickapoo nature trails nearby. The location was beautiful and secluded. Our favorite part of the cabin was the amazing deck with a view! Lots of space for the two of us and 3 dogs, and definitely enough space for a bigger family. Loved seeing the deer in the driveway one morning!

  • Fantastic cabin and location for our family! We enjoyed the scenery and wildlife (deer, possum, birds, and the neighbor dogs), and our kids had fun playing down by the creek. The freshly fallen snow made for a breathtaking view the morning we left. We hiked and explored the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, cross-country skied at Wildcat Mountain State Park, went on a sleigh ride at Three Witches Farm, and explored the town of Viroqua a bit. Greg and Lindsey were excellent hosts, and we have every intention to return!

  • This cabin is the perfect winter escape. Stunning landscape paired with serene quiet. Whether you want to hunker down and get snowed in, or use it as a launchpad to explore the Driftless region you'll be happy you stayed here. On the scale of rustic to modern, this place leans towards the moden end of the scale, with electric forced air hear/AC, fast internet/phone connection, and electric stove/oven. The kitchen is pretty basic, so if you like to cook consider bringing your favorite cookware with you if you need anything besides a basic skillet and medium sized saucepan. A sharp chef's knife would also be wise if you'll need to do chopping/cutting. We had the absolute best week and our dog loved roaming the hillside with free reign. We'll definitely be back!

  • Our first Airbnb stay and a great experience. Wonderful home with everything you need and the location is just perfect. The location in the heart of the driftless area of Wisconsin is a must see. Loved our stay in the winter because you can see forever into the woods, endless beauty. We plan to return to experience a summer here.

    Phil2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I really enjoyed our stay. Location to town was good. We spent most of our time cooking, playing board games and watching movies, and enjoyed having the fire going the whole time. There was plenty of wood available, and the cooking space was perfectly adequate. Even though we brought our own, there were plenty of entertainment options inside the house and would've been enough. The space was clean and well appointed.

    Charlie2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin. Good common space to hang out, great property to explore.

    Connor2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This wonderful cabin is exactly as promised. The upstairs loft space is gorgeous. Both ends of the catwalk with two double beds each...a private bedroom on the main floor...and a basement that served (for us) as another bedroom suite. Our 10 slept comfortably. The outdoor space was beautiful, remote, and exceeded our every expectation. Greg was fantastic with the communication and check-in was super easy. LOVE...LOVE... this place!

  • Flew in to Chicago to rendezvous with old friends. What a perfect setting for us to reconnect with the group the days leading up to Christmas. There are charming resultants in a short drive from the cabin, a nearby stable and skiing less that 45 minutes away. Book now!

Located in a quiet neighborhood, minutes from the beautiful Mississippi River and just blocks from historic, downtown Prairie du Chien. Bedrooms located upstairs and bathroom is on 1st floor. Grill provided on back porch.

    Quiet and peaceful neighborhood...
  • A very clean and comfortable house. Wendy is a terrific host. Check-in was easy and Wendy was very responsive. There’s a railroad track close by, but it didn’t really bother us at all. Highly recommend this beautiful home in Prairie du Chien.

    Aziz2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, easy check-in, exactly as described. Nice place for a fair price. Host was very welcoming!

    Bart2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy greeted us and told us about the house, answered our questions and left a set of great suggestions on what to do in the area. The place is neat and clean with every thing you need. The bedrooms are upstairs while the bathroom is downstairs. A minor inconvenience for us. The stairs to the bedroom are steep. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We really enjoyed our stay. I am sure you will also.

    Harvey2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • So much to do in Prairie du Chien and across the bridge in Iowa, and this home was a perfect location for us. You are so close to the historic downtown that you can walk - and everyone downtown was so nice and friendly. You will hear trains on occasion, but they didn't disturb us during sleeping hours. Wendy is more than willing to help out in any way. Enjoy!

    Debbie2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy was a great hostess! She met us at the home and gave us the details we needed for our stay. The home was very clean, very comfortable, and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay again if we get back to the area.

    Theresa 2016-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and her husband Charlie were both very welcoming of us into their home this weekend. We sat together and chatted for a while before they left for the weekend and it felt like being at home! We enjoyed being able to cook, have enough space to move around depending on if we wanted to read or watch a movie. The house is very cozy and well taken care of, a place full of love! We are so thankful for our time we got to spend sharing the space while we were on our vacation.

    Whitney 2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy is an extremely gracious hostess. She has the place done up so beautifully, we really felt at home and welcome. We found the neighborhood secure, safe and quiet.

    James2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house was quite nice. Everything went smoothly, from the preparations via text to our stay. The location was very convenient and the house was comfortable. We had everything we needed. We only used one of the two upstairs bedrooms. The house is near railroad tracks, and you can hear the trains as they pass, but it didn't bother us. We enjoyed a nightcap on the back patio and a cup of morning coffee on the front porch. Overall a good experience.

  • Perfect place for your family getaway.

    Janelle2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is such a cute place with all your basic needs and then some! We traveled with our 15 month old and one of the rooms has a crib so there was no need for a pack n play. They offered a high chair as well. We really appreciated the little things too, such as plenty of extra linens and pillows, plus warm touches like Christmas decor (we were there over Thanksgiving weekend). We’d absolutely stay again!

    Sarah2019-12-01T00:00:00Z

  • This home is a real treasure! It is spotlessly clean and welcomes you with a warm cozy feeling from the moment you walk in the door. We arrived to find lights on, the fireplace going and a wonderful homemade coffee cake waiting for us. Tom and Julie are obviously hospitality minded. All communication from them was quick and thorough. Check-in and check-out were simple and all of the house instructions were neatly presented and easy to understand. Located up on a lovely hill and nestled in among the trees, this is a great place to relax and refresh. We will be back!

  • This is a very nice stay, cozy and sweet. The accommodations are very accurate as advertised. The beds were comfortable and the atmosphere homey and welcoming. Sandy was a great host and was really great about communicating about parking and the challenges with the hill. That said, with the right vehicle it is so worth it to come stay at this cute little place. I loved that as we arrived we saw clear signage that showed us where to park and that we were at the right house. Thoughtful little touches were around as well. I would definitely love to stay here next time I come this way!

    Rebecca2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place in the woods! Very clean and everything you need for a relaxing getaway from home. Will definitely return again.

    Justin2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Our second time staying here and it did not disappoint. Perfect location for a ‘do nothing’ getaway. Sandy’s place is a delight, we only ventured out for a stroll to the cute downtown and walk along the river. The rest of our time was spent playing board games, reading and drinking old fashions! The perfect spot to unwind for a weekend. Hope to do it again next year.

Stay in comfort in our charming Farmhouse on a quiet, rustic ridge-top road outside Gays Mills, Wisconsin. We're located in Apple Country in the beautiful hills of the Driftless Area, also known as the Ocooch Mountains. The Farmhouse is nestled among trees on a quiet road. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen were spotless, with thoughtful touches like homemade cookies, waffles and yogurt, coffee and an assortment of teas. Dana was very responsive to all of our questions about the house and surrounding area. We definitely recommend a stay at the farmhouse - you’ll be so happy you did!

  • We are so thankful to have found Dana's little cabin for our anniversary weekend! It was absolutely perfect- quiet, cozy, and comfortable. We definitely appreciate the breakfast and the baked goods! The wood-burning fireplace was absolutely amazing :)

  • The farmhouse exceeded all of our expectations. It was cozy and every detail was thought of. Perfect relaxing getaway!

    Danielle2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This farmhouse makes for the perfect weekend getaway or weeklong vacation spot. We enjoyed Dana’s baked goods and the records that were stocked in the farmhouse. The amenities are fantastic ( loved the heated floor in the bathroom) and the decor is spot on. The old wood stove was a blast to crank up on our chillier nights even though the gas stove was plenty to warm the house. Located just minutes away from main street in Gays Mills, you won’t find a better setup then Dana’s farmhouse.

    William2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great farmhouse with so much charm and personal touches like Dana’s homemade chocolate chip cookies and fresh eggs from their chickens. Rain or shine, this place is perfect for a weekend getaway or a nice retreat away from the real world. Nestled in the Driftless region, you cannot ask for a more picturesque location. Highly recommend staying here!!

    Michelle2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely charming. Great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful Driftless Area. Dana and Bob have provided everything you would ever need to enjoy this cozy farmhouse. You won’t be disappointed!

  • The farmhouse getaway just outside of Gays Mills with Bob & Dana is a hidden treasure! It is minutes away from some quaint rural towns and beautiful driftless valley scenery on the Kickapoo river. Bob and Dana were simply amazing hosts, and had very thorough instructions for the house in the entryway, as well as in-person guidance when needed. They really go the extra mile to make you feel totally at peace and at home. The farm fresh eggs, waffles, maple syrup, ground coffee, home-baked goods, and delicious juice really added to the experience of this quaint farmhouse BNB! You definitely owe it to yourselves to book a stay in this amazingly serene space :) - Shea

Welcome to our beautiful Victorian home located in the quaint town of McGregor, Iowa. Our 2,800 sq. ft. home was built during McGregor's early years as a Mississippi River boom town. Attractions include antiquing, biking, fishing, hunting, hiking and boating! We're a short drive from Pike's Peak, Effigy Mounds and Prairie du Chien, WI. Entire access of the home, each bedroom consists of en suite or attached bath. Fully furnished and decorated. See below for more details.
This is an extremely historic Victorian home that is one of the jewels of the Driftless Region. The space combines 120 years of history with tasteful updates and modern amenities.
McGregor is nestled between the steep river bluffs and the Mighty Mississippi River. This is a stop on the Great River Road as you wind your way north or south along the river. Whether it be hiking and camping, relaxing on the Mississippi, grabbing a bite to eat with a great view, or shopping our unique shops, we have endless possibilities for young and old alike.
  • We absolutely loved our time at McGregor Manor! Right when we walked in it smelled super fresh and clean. There were little special touches like snacks and coffee, and the beds were very comfortable! The sheets and pillows also had a fresh, clean smell. We enjoyed some much needed rest and relaxation time and this was the perfect place!

    Michelle2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • With all the craziness we opted for a quick mini spring break getaway. Wanted something near Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds and McGregor is perfect. Our family of six loved the manor as we all got our own beds and almost all of us got our own rooms. Each bedroom had it's own bathroom and shower. Easy walk to downtown to grab some dinner. Would definitely stay again if we come back for more hiking.

    Darren2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at McGregor Manor! We used the space as a miniature writing retreat, and my companions and I thought this was the perfect home for it. Every bedroom has its own bathroom/shower, there are lots of nooks and crannies to tuck yourself away in, the rooms are spacious and bright, etc. As a bonus, it's about a very short walk to downtown and the river beyond. This place was a gem.

    Nicole2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Charming place, lovely hosts!

  • We absolutely loved Katie’s space. It was comfier than we imagined. The beds were especially comfortable! We loved that every room had its own bathroom. 3 couples and a single stayed the night and it was the perfect space. The touch of coffee and snacks provided by host was very much appreciated. There were also cooking utensils and even some spices available. We loved our stay!!

With its modern, Scandinavian-inspired interior, our cabin offers a peaceful retreat away from the busyness of life, nestled comfortably in the woods.  The 75 acres of ridge top hardwood forest feel even larger due to 300 acres of state land on 3 sides and views of the trout streams below.  You’ll be amazed at the remote wilderness feel of this property so close to the fabulous food and shopping of Viroqua and the larger Driftless region.
You’ll find a clean, light-filled interior, memory foam mattress with down bedding, handmade concrete counters, built in appliances and a heated bathroom fan to warm you after showering in the tile and glass shower.  Cuddle up with our throws in front of the Norwegian wood burning stove.  (We’ve already chopped and dried the wood for you.) This is the twinkling, winter wonderland setting for hygge (Scandinavian coziness and warmth). Other details -- A refrigerator, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave are located in the kitchen, and a European style washer/dryer in the bath. Dishes, cooking supplies and a coffee maker / grinder are available. There is a private bedroom with a queen size bed on the first floor, and a loft with both a queen and twin bed. The large screened in porch is accessible via the side door and has additional seating. High speed internet is available for your laptop and phone. There is no TV in the cabin. Bed linens, towels and extra blankets are provided. We love our canine friends, and your dog is welcome and will enjoy walking on the trails.
We are located on a wooded 75 acre property surrounded by 300 acres of protected public land with two Wisconsin DNR Class 1 trout streams (Tainter and Mcgraw creeks), filled with Brook and Brown trout. We have over a mile of hiking trails on the property for hiking, biking or snowshoeing. The cabin is at the top of a steep private drive, 1/2 mile from the public road (Tainter Road). We have two other cabins further down the drive on our property, approximately 1/2 mile away that are not visible. Expect it to be very quiet, and very dark with views of the stars at night. Our closest neighbor is a mile away.
  • Rodney’s cabin is perfection. Perfectly appointed, beautifully designed and so comfortable. Our family had the most wonderful stay!

  • Cozy cabin with modern touches. Rodney made sure to have the fire going before my arrival. There is a screened in porch which will be very nice in warmer weather.

    Kirsten2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was beautiful! It was spotless when we arrived and so cozy. There was even a fire already going in the wood stove! The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. The kitchen was the perfect size and had everything we needed. Rodney was so accommodating answering all my questions and providing us with local recommendations. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

  • Beautiful, secluded area. Once at the bottom of the long driveway we enjoyed fishing and walking the nearby streams. Inside the cabin was very clean, we loved the wood burning stove and nicely decorated.

  • Fantastic place!! Rodney had a fire going for us when we arrived and the place is cozy and comfortable!! The screened porch looks super inviting for warmer months. We’ll definitely be back!

  • This cabin is stunning and so are the surroundings! A perfect getaway for some peace and quiet and natural beauty. The small kitchen was perfect and we loved the Kickapoo Coffee. Toiletries were also wonderful. Super comfy beds. GREAT communication from the host, including directions and local tips. Viroqua has some great spots to check out. • Even better than it appears in the pictures! The house is huge, the beds are comfortable, the town is small but friendly, and overall it made for a relaxing weekend. Katie has great taste and is very quick to respond to any questions. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

    Amber2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Could not recommend this charming home more! The large space allowed for the multiple families to each have their own space, but still allowed for large gatherings together. It was beautifully-furnished, extremely clean and very welcoming! Katie was very responsive and accommodating of our last-minute booking.

    Kate2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Katie is Great host, fast response to every question. House was very well located very clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again. Five Stars ***** for us .

    Rich2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • More than ample room for you and your guests. The home has safe spaces for kids to roam. Every time I stay in one of Katie's properties I don't want to go home... My family needs the space that a grand Victorian has, and when I stay in McGregor that becomes painfully obvious, lol.

  • Accommodated my employees in her home

    Kimberly2019-10-14T00:00:00Z

    Sara2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Katie was a fabulous host, very responsive, accommodating and hospitable. Her home, and our stay was great. It's very comfortable, warm, and inviting. We loved enjoying our morning tea on the front porch, the spacious rooms, and the great amenities. We would stay again if ever we return to McGregor.

  • Possibly the most relaxing location ever. Strongly recommend for couples to relax and reconnect.. you won’t be disappointed.

    Ted2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hidden Hallow exceeded or expectations. The pictures don't do this place justice. From the rolling bluffs and the winding creek through the property to the beautiful interior decor, it was such a serene and peaceful escape. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with everything you would ever need and there was enough room for a large family and a pup to sprawl out and enjoy time together. It was so nice to end our evenings with a roaring fire and to wake up to hundreds of beautiful birds flitting about the property. The bonus cabin/room out back was equally as beautiful. It was hard to regulate the temperature in that small space, relying on the wood burning stove and the space heaters, but otherwise was a neat experience. Gorgeous hiking opportunities at parks nearby and a charming little town to boot. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway in the driftless.

    Gina2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first stay at Hidden Hollow and definitely won't be our last! It was our family Thanksgiving getaway, and I mean "getaway". We love how private and secluded the place is, so very tranquil. We didn't leave the property the whole time we were there. You can spend a whole day just exploring the land and enjoying nature. Inside the farmhouse is just as relaxing. We had a fire every night and enjoyed reading and playing games together. Hidden Hollow is a hidden "gem" and we would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from the daily grind and just relax.

    John2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the most incredible airbnb I have ever had the pleasure to spend time in. We picked this place because it allowed us to bring out puppy. We could not have been happier. Pam gave very detailed and helpful directions for finding the home and getting checked in which made it a breeze. The small touches are what makes this home so amazing. From the welcome basket, to the luxurious bathtub experience, the fully stocked spice cabinet, the immense amount of firewood and starting supplies for the fireplace, the orange puppy bandana for hiking. We absolutely loved exploring all of the hiking trails. The view from blueberry hill at sunrise was incredible! We can't wait to come back!!!

    Bridget2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • You will not find a better place to spend a relaxing time than Hidden Hollow. If you want activity and constant things to do, maybe not. But if you are looking for solitude, peaceful and relaxation. This is the place to go

    Ted2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful escape from our complicated lives. This is a perfect getaway for anyone wanting to become a part of nature and just relax. We enjoyed the trails through the surrounding forest and the plethora of wildlife. But the inside of the house was just as relaxing as the outside. It was a perfect space for our family to unwind and spend quiet time together.

    Matt2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Staying had Hidden Hollow was extremely easy. Pam was quick to respond to questions, and had easy to follow instructions. The property is beautiful and well kept. My mom and I enjoyed the birds and scenery immensely. It truly felt like this was getaway we were looking for.

Quaint 1920 sq. ft. 5 bedroom family home within walking distance to historic river town Prairie du Chien and the Mississippi river. Explore and enjoy the majesty of the Mississippi Valley. Stroll thru historic downtown or hike down to the river on St. Feriole Island and discover the city's birthplace including Fort Crawford and the Villa Louis. This is a boater's and fisherman's paradise with several local boat launches and ample trailer and vehicle parking behind the house.
Our son, when he was in 3rd grade and prone to telling tall tales, told his teacher about this magical place we'd go, called 205town, where nobody lived but rather was a place that friends and family could gather to play. We told his teacher that in this case, that was pretty much the truth, and we invite you to stay at 205town and create your own magic with those close to you.
A quiet residential neighborhood a short walk away from parks, the Simply Coffee shop and a great Bloody Mary at Jim's Bar.
  • Our extended family of 4 adults and 3 kids spent the weekend here. The kids loved the layout of the house and had a ton of fun on their own floor. The whole house was clean and welcoming. We were fine with the one shower (the house does have two bathrooms, the second with a bathtub), and we appreciated the abundance of space, especially all the seating in the living room and the large dining room table. Thank you Larry and Gloria for sharing your lovely home with us!

  • Larry and Gloria's place was very clean and easily accommodated 8 of us. We were able to walk a block to the downtown area and a little further to the park on the island. It's a quick drive to Marquette, Iowa as well.

    Mark2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay. The home is clean and so convenient to downtown restaurants. We had two families staying here for a reunion weekend and it was comfortable for all of us. Even though it was close to downtown, the street was very quiet. We relaxed in the evening around the fire pit in the backyard. I would stay here again.

    Mary2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay and will be our choice for the next family gathering. There was 10 in our group and it was perfect for us. In total it was 5 different families and each one agrees that this is the perfect house for us. Plenty of things to do are within walking distance and the best part is that Pete's is only a block away

    John2019-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Larry and Gloria were so above accommodating and generous. house was just stunningly cool they definitely aren't built this was anymore

I've shut the water off for the season. It'll be back on in the spring. I am still accepting reservations. Step back in time a bit and take it a little off the beaten path. The Tack Shed is a 12'x14' getaway constructed almost entirely from reclaimed or homesawn materials.
This is a rustic throw back bunkhouse style shed. There's no A/C but the windows open, have screens, and there's a fan. There's a shower and sink in the shed but to use the toilet you'll have to come in through the side entrance of my house to access the half bath. Don't expect the Ritz. There's gonna be dust, maybe a fly or two, and the climb to the loft is steep. But if you are looking for a one of a kind place to rest your head and get away from everything.... You just found it!
I'm pretty much off the beaten path here. You can sit outside on a clear night and see every star in the sky. My neighbors are a ways off and no yard lights are visible. You're basically surrounded by pasture ground.
  • Charming cabin, friendly and helpful host, warm in winter, comfortable bed.

    Edward2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was the perfect getaway for my partner I! The lack of running water and wifi made it impossible to do work which was the goal of our little vacation. Great proximity to ice climbing in Wyalusing State Park and Lone Rock!

    Tiffany2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a great stay at the tack shed. Josh was a great host and had a nice fire going so the cabin was toasty when we arrived. Its such a cozy place with beautiful views. We loved the horses. We definitely plan on going back again.

    Jo2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the Tack Shed. It was a nice get-away from the city life. Josh was great with communication and making us feel welcomed.

    Destiny2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really fun! Cowboy coffee made on a hot plate is delicious! But it's not instantaneous. Bring your own coffee if you aren't a Maxwell House lover.  The wood burning stove is incredibly efficient and fun to use!  There is a space heater as well so the shed was perfect for our late arrival.  Bring some shoes that will tolerate short walks across dewy grass to the bathroom.   There is a hint of highway noise in the mornings, after the leaves have fallen.   Maggie’s Diner is just a couple of minutes away, but breakfast was only medium quality.  TMI!  We really loved staying here!!!

    Dina2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Tack Shed is the best! For any couples considering staying here, it’s *romantic* thanks to the excellent decor, great lighting, wood stove, and overall comfiness. Josh even left a bottle of wine for us, and we got to feed his horse apples!!

    Katie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay! It was the perfect excuse to unwind in the countryside. We made the cabin a no phone zone and enjoyed playing cards and chatting by the fireplace. The location is great, near several parks for hiking and nature trails. If you want a one of a kind experience, this is the perfect place!

    Jennifer2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay and Josh is a very inviting, informative host. Don’t let cold weather deter you— this charming space has a wood burning stove that is sure to keep you nice and toasty. The Shed is a rustic, and restful stop when you just want to get away from it all.

  • Rich and Char are wonderful hosts. We had a nice relaxing stay in this charming river town. Anything you need is within walking distance. We always wanted to stay here and so glad we did. The communication was great and the place was homey but with a lot of history. They had alot of little touches like fresh muffins in the fridge and snacks if you needed them. I cannot wait to stay again. If you are wanting a great place to stay look no further!

  • This is a very clean, comfortable space in a great river town. Everything you could possibly need is provided. The hosts are delightful. Good restaurants and shops in walking distance. We have stayed in quite a few places in this area, and this is by far superior to any. We will definitely return.

  • Amazing hospitality!! Extremely comfortable, cozy, clean and lots of interesting history. Rich was kind beyond measure when we locked ourselves out. We look forward to another stay some day.

  • Visiting the area is always a treat. I was the first guest to stay here and the hosts went above and beyond with this place. Plenty of space for a big group and the best part is the indoor hot tub in a separate building connected by the deck. Cows are right out back too which was amazing to wake up and look out to see! Great place!
