  • Really lovely place that allows you to fully unwind. Make sure you take a walk to the harbour - it's beautiful! Added bonus was access to Netflix sign in on the TV when we had a very rainy day!

  • Lovely house that's perfect for a weekend away for a couple or a group as the Kitchen and Living room are both nice and big. Master bed is a little small if you are over 6 ft so worth keeping in mind, but its a great house.

A small slice of paradise on the sunny side of Lough Derg:-) The boathouse is self contained with full kitchen, bathroom and mezzanine bed. Private veranda with seating for 2 and a small BBQ. (No pets allowed)
  • Unreal spot will defo be back Barry is a top man 🤝

    Jamie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the best AirBnB's that I've ever stayed in, and completely represents everything that is great about this platform - a unique space, in a beautiful location, hosted by a genuinely friendly and welcoming person. The place is exactly as described - it is right on the water and the doors and windows frame the lake beautifully and make it feel like the lake is all yours. Barry is a great host - on hand for anything we needed! Can't recommend this place enough.

    Tim2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a lovely spot right beside Lough Derg. Very peaceful and calm. The place is cosy and clean. The only issue I found is that the cabin isn’t very private. There are blinds on most windows but they don’t give much privacy and it’s easy for someone to come around without much warning. Apart from that everything is absolutely great - I would defiantly recommend. A very relaxing little spot.

    Dora2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely spot to while away a few days and get away from it all. It's a bird watchers paradise, even has a resident kingfisher. If you get up early enough you will see him close up along with the sunrise over the lake. Magical. Barry is the perfect host and lives behind so all your needs are well looked after. If you have a canoe or stand up it's an ideal spot to get on this beautiful stretch of water. The stove in the evening is really cosy and the boathouse has everything you need. Be aware that the climb up and down to the mezzanine bed is short but properly vertical. Fine for the average person. I loved the time I spent there and have it on my list to go back.

  • Little house in dream about the lake. Waking up in the morning overlooking the lake and the coast on the other side and falling asleep to the sound of the water next to the wood burning fireplace. A true haven of peace and tranquility. In addition Barry worried that we were at all times at ease, he left us with fresh firewood and recommendations on places to visit. Thanks Barry for your kindness !!

    Paula2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Barry's spot on the Lough Derg is a dream! So idyllic! Barry and his Mam's hospitality was great too! They kindly gave us a lift to the local pub one of the nights and Barry arranged a lift for us off a neighbour on the way home. It was a lovely tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Dublin.

    Orla2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pop's dream was absolutely incredible. If you like seclusion and an incredible view this little spot is just the place. We had an absolute fantastic time and only wish we could've stayed longer!

    Matthew2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Nice little spot for a romantic getaway. Quaint and peaceful. Getting up the stairs was a bit tricky. Barry is a lovely chap and was very welcoming as was his mum. Would recommend to anyone.

  • The hole is such an unusual quirky and interesting place... Very cosy and welcoming... We were treated to home made cider on our arrival and loved hearing the story about the hole. It is situated in such a pretty area and after arriving in the dark, we loved waking up to be surrounded by green and enjoyed having our breakfast in the front garden. Thank you so much! Em and Oli

    Emily2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is just astonishing. Loved the little touches and the place was also sparkling clean. Dave was also very very nice.

    Ivan2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place, highly recommended

    Iftekhar2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the Hole. The accommodation was spotless and spacious and I wanted for nothing. It is indeed a quaint location with woodland in front and in an area where peace and solitude can easily be found in the place itself and in the nearby roads and lanes. I was reminded of W.B. Yeat's lovely lines while I was here: 'And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings'. It is situated on the ancient 'auld road' which was once a main thoroughfare between Connaught and Munster. This road has much history associated with it. Valerie and Dave were very attentive hosts throughout my stay and I got a lovely treat of fresh organic eggs from them one morning. Paddy

    Patrick2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay here. The house is fun and homely, the garden space is so peaceful and Valerie and Dave could not be more thoughtful as hosts. We had fresh flowers in every room on arrival and Valerie was so helpful with communicating beforehand. Nearby Portna forest park is lovely too

    Jamie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Caring and caring hosts, a super friendly country setting, secluded, quiet and really pretty, a nice house well equipped and spacious. In short, it was a real pleasure to meet and stay at Valérie and Dave's place.

    Mathilde2019-08-15T00:00:00Z

On the shore of Lough Derg, 1km from Mountshannon village in East Co.Clare, this detached bungalow is on a quiet cul de sac surrounded by woodland. At the end of the garden there is a small private sandy beach with lake access where guests can bring canoes, kayaks or a lake boat to the shallow waters and mooring on the property. Lough Derg is an excellent water sports location and a world famous fishing destination for brown trout and coarse fishing, particularly renowned for its Mayfly season.
The property is a well used and loved Holiday Home, but you should find everything comfortable, clean and in good working order. The bungalow is on a quiet private cul de sac road, south facing surrounded by grass lawn and pine trees. The entrance leads into an open plan kitchen, dining and seating area which benefits from a picturesque view of Lough Derg with the hills Co.Tipperary in the distance. There is a cozy solid fuel stove in this room which opens onto the outdoor patio. Adjoining the kitchen is a sitting room which also looks out towards the lake through sliding doors onto the patio. The sitting room has an open fireplace and TV. A corridor links the kitchen to the rear of the house, where there are three bedrooms – one double bed, one single plus bunk bed, and one bunk bed. There is a bathroom with wc, sink and bath/shower and there is a separate small wc. There is ample parking on the drive way adjacent to the house. The house is surrounded by grass lawn and then surrounded on three sides by a strip of woodland. The lake garden and lake access is approximately 100metres from the house, (directly across the private lane that services the five other houses on the lane). It is a gently sloping grass & sand beach which is suitable for launching and mooring kayaks, canoes or lakeboats. The water is shallow (2-3ft) for about 50 yards into the lake where it tapers off to 8ft and deeper.
The lake makes this a special location – the view, the constantly changing light and the potential for activity on the water or in the hills and forests nearby. Mounshannon village itself is a very well kept small town with a beautiful park and playground at its centre, a public marina and beach, as well as a small restaurant, two pubs, a pub restaurant and a garage. Killaloe is located 27km to the south and Portumna 27km to the north. Limerick City is about an hour drive, and Dublin Airport about 2.5 hrs. East Clare is dominated by rolling hills and forest as well as the Lake and is an excellent hiking, walking, cycling and boating region. Portumna Forest is a particularly well laid out and maintained park with many extensive walking and cycling routes.
  • Beautiful location, very cozy house by the lake with amazing view. Loved the big windows!

    Nara2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay at this wonderful cottage / lodge with amazing views of the lake. Craig's comms we amazing and he had made sure our stay was wonderful throughout. Small note, we used WAZE as our SatNav and that didn't find the lane but using Google Maps resolved the issue.

    Ravi2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Craig was a wonderful host. His home is situated in a beautiful spot on a lake. It's clean, spacious and fully equipped with all you need. We really enjoyed our stay and would have no problem recommending it - we might even go back ourselves one day!

    Angela2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Craig’s place is on this wonderful hidden spot on the lake. We had lovely walks and the fire place is inviting to sit in the evening with a glass of wine or a lovely cup of tea. The kitchen has everything you need! What wonderful meals we created - just like at home. The mount Shannon Saturday market was wonderful to visit and further on there are lovely walks along the East Clare way... Even it wasn’t the season for the boats or Kajaks to get out on the lake to be close to the water created a lovely and calming atmosphere. I didn’t meet Craig but everything was clear and very well described. Thanks

    Johanna2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Best location you could find, so peaceful, I could watch the swans on the lake all day. The house has everything you need.

  • John and Evelyne's bungalow was a great place to stay! It was a good location quite near the lake, very clean and spacious, with a well stocked kitchen, nice garden and fresh eggs from next door. Most of the house had been recently renovated. John and Evelyne were wonderful hosts, who communicated well and went out of their way to assist us with transportation to Mountshannon. We had small issues with the immersion heater for the shower, but expect those can easily be addressed for future guests.

    Michaela2016-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Hosts were very welcoming, and offered to help in any way they could. The House was well serviced with all neccessary essentials, which made the stay great. The House was convienient to the village of Mountshannon, and was ideal for a nice break away. We enjoyed our stay very much, and would recommend it as a Home from Home for anybody wanting to stay in Mountshannon or the Lough Derg region.

  • We enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was very cosy, comfortable and clean. Cathy is a very thoughtful and helpful host. It was lovely to be welcomed with a fire in the log burner. Great location for a visit to the Nenagh area. One of the bedrooms being on the ground floor is very helpful for anyone with mobility issues. We would book here again.

  • John and Cathy's house had plenty of space for the 4 of us. We were only here one night on our road trip around Ireland, but we would have loved to spend more time here. The house is clean and has everything your family might need. John and Cathy are very responsive, as well. John met us at the house and explained everything in-person. Would definitely recommend this if you're in the area!

  • I can highly recommend staying at Cillians place, it's a lovely, stylish apartment with everything we needed for a good stay. We enjoyed lovely food and hospitality in Larkins, the family pub next door and despite the bad weather we enjoyed everything about Garrykennedy. We'll definitely be back.

Barbara invites you and your family, plus pets, to her Home which has been in the McNamara name since 1932. Tranquil and private setting, enjoy the peaceful surrounding whilst taking in nature at it’s best. It is situated on the outskirts of Scariff Town in the heart of East Clare, close to the shores of Lough Derg. Short drive to Killaloe where you can take a trip along the Shannon. 45 minutes drive from Shannon Airport, Ennis and Limerick. Visit Cliffs of Moher. All are welcome.
It is a very unique space. Up on a hill looking over fields and other houses but still far away to experience peacefulness and tranquillity. Safe and secure.
The neighbourhood is very peaceful and tranquil. Extremely private surroundings whilst still being near the Town. Ideal for Families with children and pets / Romantic getaway / Fishing Enthusiasts. The area is very safe and secure. There is a vast area surrounding the house with garden.
  • It was so idyllic and peaceful we didn't want to leave!

    Niamh2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was awesome. Barbara was super nice and the house was rustic and beautiful. It was far enough from town to he secluded but close enough that we never felt remote or alone.

    Cierra2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • The location is the best part of this stay. You are far away from everything so you get true peace and quiet but you are still close enough to get supplies and visit local pubs and restaurants. Barbara was a really kind host and answered all our questions and resolved a couple of small issues we had. We would stay here again. It’s a truly rustic, authentic Irish experience.

    Charlotte2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Four of us stayed at Barbara's place and loved it! Barbara made sure to be there to show us around and took care of anything we needed. She did everything to ensure we had a comfortable stay and communicated with us easily. The house is spacious and welcoming, and tucked up away from everything so it's quiet and private as well. This was actually a second stay for us and hopefully there will be more!

    Heather2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • A few of us stayed at Barbara’s for a course we were taking nearby. The place was so comfy and cozy. The bedrooms all big and even had electric blankets on as it was quite cold when we arrived. Barbara helped with finding the place and even drove over when we got a bit lost. She checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The house felt grand and special. Quiet and surrounded by lots of land. A true gem. Thank you, Barbara for your warmth and hospitality!

  • Had a really wonderful stay at Cillian's place in Garykennedy with my husband and daughter. The grounds are truly spectacular with views over the Shannon and a your very own 13th century "Rapunzel tower" to explore. It was a great base for us to visit family, friends, and the local area. The cottage was very spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of room for us to have guests to stay over. The house was lovely and warm when we arrived and the heating worked well. We also lit cosy fires as the weather was quite cold. It was an added bonus to have two bathrooms, and fantastic to have a washing machine and a dryer for our 10 day stay. Cillian was an excellent host and we would definitely come back again. We can also recommend the great food and drinks in Larkin's pub.

    Isabelle2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • It was amazing accomodatin and great experience for everyone who wants to enjoy the perfect nature of Ireland in solitude. Cillian is a very nice and willing person you must meet in Ireland.

  • This cottage is located in beautiful countryside with lovely grounds/garden and orchard to wander around. Stunning view of the nearby lake. The cottage is comfortable with everything you might need if you want to stay in or there is also Larkin's pub in walking distance which has excellent food, great atmosphere and great Irish music the night we visited. Would highly recommend this property.

  • What a beautiful location right near the lough and loads of things to do around the area. Good music Sunday night at Larkins. Struggled a bit with the oven as more technical than we have at home. Had great weather to sit in the grounds and listen to the birds. The beds were sooo comfy. Really relaxing stay thank you!

  • We stayed three nights at the beautiful coach house, it is peaceful, quiet with a great view of the lake. It was warm and cozy and had everything we needed for a most memorable stay. Just down the road is the famous Larkin’s restaurant where we had dinner twice, it was superb. Cillian is a wonderful host and I highly recommend a stay at the coach house !!!

  • If you travel to Ireland, you must stay at a Bed and Breakfast... it is part of Irish culture. Ursula's place is a perfect example of warm Irish hospitality with comfortable spaces and a welcoming atmosphere. She is easy to find and perfectly situated for any destination for the Western Ireland region... she provided a full Irish breakfast and extremely comfortable beds and sitting room. It was one of the highlights of our visit.

    Aharon2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ursula is a friendly and welcoming host. The house is in the countryside but only 5 minutes walk from the lovely village of Mountshannon. Ursula serves the best coffee in Ireland.

  • Great accommodations, meals and amenities. Quiet, tranquil and beautiful— a treasure in East Clare. Wonderful host and great stay.

    Matt2018-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • This BnB was everything we'd hoped for. The village of Mountshannon is a tiny village within an easy drive of so much of Ireland: the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Kilkenny, etc. And, Ursula's home was ideal. The house is beautiful, the view is lovely, the breakfast was perfect every morning (loved the homemade bread and the Irish breakfast), and our room was perfect for our family of 3. And, most importantly, we couldn't have been made to feel any more at home. Ursula is amazing. Thank you!

    Darla2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Ursula and her family make you feel very welcome; nothing is too much trouble it seems. Rooms are lovely, great attention to detail and the personal touch is everywhere. Great breakfast, lots of choice, nicely cooked and Ursula was most accommodating to guests ordering 'off menu'! Beautiful countryside location with lots to see and do nearby. Highly recommended.

  • We have really enjoyed this house! The combination of nature and tranquility makes that magical place! It is a country house where we find the rest we need and it is also a good bridge to visit almost all of Ireland. The kindness of Carla and her family also want to stand out, and her puppies too

  • We had the most wonderful relaxing stay and couldn't ask for more. Our hosts were amazing friendly kind and made their home feel like ur home. Spotless clean cosy so much I didn't want to leave. Highly recommend as a place to stay and leave the hustle and bustle behind .

    Sinead2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is perfect. This is the perfect spot for a true 'rural Irish experience'. You can walk the grounds, feed the donkeys, play with the puppies in the large field, talk to the landowners, take a walk to the harbor, go to the local pub... The location is beautiful and quaint. The space is unique, true to the times (1700s) and CLEAN. We only spent 2 nights. I would recommend 4 at minimum. The internet is slow and weak, but you don't go to rural Ireland to watch Netflix, so....

    Asia2019-08-10T00:00:00Z

  • Braybrook is a lovely house in a quiet and peaceful setting in the Irish countryside. The house is perfect for large families having many facilities including spacious living areas, a ground floor bedroom and bathroom with shower for older guests. Despite the inclement weather we had an interesting time visiting many of the historical sites in Limerick and Portumna and the geological site on the Burren.

  • I thought about not leasing a review, but that would be mean for the owners. The house was so Nice, would love to keep it for ourselves. But since the owners are so nice to let people stay at such beautyfull place, I will advice annyone to rent this house. It’s big enough for a large family. The area is beautyfull and really quiet. Some nice things to do in the area like lake Killaloe. And the people in the Village of Scarriff are so friendly. I hope I can book it again in time for next year.

  • Dinah was a very welcoming host. Upon our arrival she met us at a nearby rest stop and guided us to her home. As our first time in Ireland, she invited us to a local pub for some food and drink to help us settle in. The home is located in a very quiet part of town and perfect for anyone trying to really get away. Scarriff is an adorable place with very friendly people. Neighboring Killaloe is a beautiful town on lough Derg with many nice restaurants and scenery.

Self contained guest cottage with one bedroom and fold out sofa in the living/dining area, in the courtyard of a lovely period farmhouse 4km above Mountshannon, with wonderful views of Lough Derg. Boating, hiking, fishing, biking, horse riding, touring nearby. Or come pick vegetables with us. Lovely pubs, Music, a charming area. Peaceful, quiet but for the braying donkey or mooing cows, the swallows and starlings in the summer. Sleeps 3,4 at a push but check with us. Min 2 nts, 3 hols.
Kilrateera Cottage is a recently refurbished self-contained cottage in the courtyard of our Kilrateera Farmhouse. It contains a single bedroom (double bed downstairs) and a (small) double fold-out sofa upstairs in the living/dining room. We also have another blow up mattress can put in the cottage. The property consists of 4.2 acres with wonderful views of Lough Derg below, some 4km above the village of Mountshannon, with its lovely marina. There is a half acre field at the side, with three polytunnels and outdoor beds, where Annie works day and night tending to far too many organic vegetables, best apricots, strawberries and raspberries galore, a haggard (wild flower garden behind a games room/yoga or dance studio), an orchard and is surrounded on two sides by a copse. The cottage sits on one side of the courtyard, with two outbuildings on either side, one a games room with ping pong or can be used as a quiet yoga/dance room or artists studio; the main farmhouse then is in front of the courtyard, facing Lough Derg. Parking available. We both have spent our working lives in the arts and this is a wonderful place for a visiting artist, writer or musician. Children are welcome and very safe. The cottage has a self-catering kitchen, fully equipped, and usually extra fruit for breakfast or some vegetables in the garden if you wish--whatever is ripe for harvesting! There is a patio area behind the cottage with a table and benches in good weather and lovely evening sunshine, and a barbecue for your convenience and pleasure. New residents include half a dozen cheeky chickens giving us eggs, and Willow, a friendly (and very funny) sheepdog. In the summer our neighbours' two horses will often stay in our front field constantly chatting to another neighbour's two horses and five donkeys over the wall. There is no television although we have many DVD's on hand if you have a laptop. Please note, we ask a minimum stay of 2 nights, usually 3 in summer. We may consider a shorter stay depending on availability and our schedules. Please also be aware: this is a rural area although only 45 minutes from Limerick, 1.5 hr or so from Doolin (Aran Islands Ferry), Burren, Cliffs of Moher. You'll need car for the area or be good long distance bicyclists. We are not entirely remote, but we are up a hill on a narrow windy road and a 15 minute drive from any shops, pubs and all amenities. WE ARE 4KM FROM MOUNTSHANNON VILLAGE AND NOT REALLY WALKABLE AT NIGHT. This is Ireland and it can (and does) get wet. Wellies or hiking boots are highly recommended, and a good book is always a good idea (we have many on offer!)
The views, the walks. If you have your bikes, there's cycling on quiet back roads. There are stables in the area that cater to riders. The lake from up here is constantly changing in appearance as weather moves in, moves out... Welcome to a corner of heaven come rain or shine. We're four km or so from Mountshannon, seven from Scarriff. This is a peaceful spot with a wonderful view and always a warm welcome.
  • Greg and Annie's cottage is very beautiful, at a lovely location, tucked in nature, overlooking to Lough Derg. Greg was so kind to light the fire before we arrive and there was fresh homemade bread and jam left for us on our arrival, was so lovely. The house is very comfortable, lovely modern style, have all that you need... It was great have a tour of their gardens also, we would certainly love to come back again.

  • Words do not do Greg and Annie (or their place, or warmth and hospitality) justice. We came here looking to switch off for the weekend and didn't realize just how perfect the cottage would be for that. They were amazing to deal with in the run up and so welcoming, helpful and supportive when we got there. They anticipated needs we didn't know we had (e.g. drying towels and hiking gear, as well as offering us use of virtually everything in their home). We have two regrets though: 1) that we didn't get to say goodbye in person 2) we forgot to ask for their brown bread recipe!!! Seriously, we will be back. If you have the chance to stay here - do!!!

    Rob2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning location to get a way from the business of the city. Greg and Annie offer a warm and welcoming home that feels like a magical oasis. They go above and beyond to welcome you and give you suggestions of things to see and do. It really is a lovely place to stay.

  • This place is truly wonderful and the hospitality of greg and annie was wonderful.the lication was fabulous and we really e joyed going into town and to holy island. One of the best parts was going ro garden in morning and pucking veggies and fruit for our day. What greg and annie have done is amazing.you see their passion and ir is contagious. Cant thank them enough and wish them all the best. Great place!!!

    Martha2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Greg and Annie were wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and there were so many thoughtful touches. The property is clean and comfortable and if you are looking for a quiet, country location this is perfect. We had freshly baked bread and home made jam on arrival and freshly laid eggs for breakfast and at this time of year the raspberries from the garden were the best we've tasted!

    Andrew2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Greg and Annie are amazing hosts, very welcoming, accesible, full of information. It fell as if we knew them already. The place is much better than you could imagine. Cozy home, beautiful, clean. You have everything you need and more. Willow the dog made our days. And the area is woonderful. Thanks so much! We had an amazing weekend.

    Elidia2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Greg & Annie were incredibly kind and knowledgeable hosts! They were very flexible with us when we had to check in late due to a flat tire. The space was very clean and had everything you could possibly need. Can get a little bit chilly at night but they provide a heated blanket and slippers for guests comfort. Willow the dog was the absolute cutest. Would highly recommend!

    Allie2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Greg and Annie's place is a beautiful peaceful spot off the beaten track. You can expect a warm welcome down to the jug of milk in the fridge, the fresh baked brown bread and the delicious jam made from their own garden produce. Lots of lovely walks..its just off the East Clare way. We were down for the Feakle fest so lots of great music too. We'd highly recommend this little bit of heaven!

Rosie and Tom are very lovely people and helpful in everything. Killaloe has lots to offer in activities, no need to get bored. And when the weather gets really bad it's a very nice appartement to chill for a day. We surely come back to this peaceful and inspiring place.

  • We had a lovely 3 nights at Tom & Rose’s place (& Adams!). They were generous hosts and gave us great loca insights for our trip to Killaloe and surrounding districts. We had a lovely supper with them and loved hearing all about the local area and Irish history. Tom gave us good tips on the game of Hurling as it was the All Ireland Hurling final between Limerick and Galway. Our accomodation was warm and spacious with great views to the lake. There were plenty of provisions for breakfast and the bonus was being able to pick masses of Blackberries for a pie and jam. Although we got a bit lost finding the place, we phoned Rose and she came and found us and led us to the House. They are lovely hosts and we would love to stay again if we are back in Ireland. Nga mihi nui Rose, Tom and Adam -please come and visit us in NZ!

    Hana2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • our stay could not have gone better. beautiful country side location with a wonderful view of the lake. we relaxed each night in a cozy space looking out at the lake. Jake2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • An ideal place to stay in Ireland. We loved staying with Tom and Rosie! Very spacious with three different sleeping areas, a living area, a kitchen with all the essentials and two bathrooms. More than enough space for our family of four. The views outside our front doors were truly amazing. While in a very private and secluded area, also a reasonable distance to many tourist spots such as Cliff of Moher, Bunratty Castle, etc. Tom and Rosie were so helpful and quick in answering any questions we had. We would highly recommend staying here! Can’t wait to come back!

Craigmyle is a three bed, two bath cottage set in an old coachhouse in the courtyard of Williamstadt House. The Cottage has all the charm and beauty of centuries past, yet boasts all modern conveniences as well. Set on ten acres of beautiful parkland near the banks of Lough Derg, Craigmyle Cottage is both a peaceful retreat and a marvelous location for exploring not only the best of "hidden" Ireland all around it but popular destinations as well. Do come and experience it's authentic loveliness!
The coachhouse was built in 1774 and the courtyard is quite unique and boasts a large fig tree, grapevine, bamboo and a magnolia grandiflora. There are ducks and chickens wandering around the place, and guests are welcome to feed them grain and will find themselves quite popular with the fowl.
Our neighbourhood stretches along Lough Derg and boasts a beautiful quiet Harbour where the light never stays the same. There are miles and miles of quiet country lanes to wander and they all circle back to the house.
  • Dear Carole and Kevin, Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and welcoming us to your life for a week. Your home is so authentic, stylish, warm and comfortable, full of interesting details and a lot of love. What an amazing way of getting to know your beautiful country. Our whole family fell in love with your wonderful place and magical Ireland . Thank you for everything- We definitely will be back!

    Carina2019-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a great experience. The property was beautifully decorated and has everything one could need to make their holiday wonderful. The off the beaten path feel is perfect but still centrally located as to make it anywhere in a relatively short drive. The animals and hosts, Carole and Keith, make this stay extremely warm and personal. We enjoyed the hospitality and daily visits from the dogs and fowl. I dream of returning!

    Shannon2018-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit with Carole , Kevin and the pups Sally, Walter and Scout. Each time their warmth and knowledge of the area is incredible. If you want a relaxing authentic experience in Ireland- look no further. From the outstanding accommodations (we have stayed at the various options made available over our two visits and love them all) to the amazing animals, walking trails and nearby sites

    Brian2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place to stay, the hosts make it even more of a brilliant place to spend a few days! Everything was as stated on the page and I will certainly be returning in the future.

    Cathal2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • After spending a few days at Craigmyle Cottage, we can only reinforce what all of the other excellent reviews have said. We wish we could stay longer. Carole and Kevin, plus their collection of animals and birds, were wonderful hosts with great tips for what to do and where to eat. The cottage and setting itself are absolutely charming, with the living spaces very comfortable and real attention to detail with the decor in every room. My very pregnant partner also had the best sleep she'd had in weeks during our stay. We would definitely recommend it as a great base from which to explore Limerick, West Clare, Ennis and smaller towns like Killaloe if you're looking for the best of both worlds (city sightseeing with a taste of country living). We hope to be back again in the not to distant future.

    James2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • Carole and Kevin, Many thanks for making us feel part of the family for the past couple of days . The weather wasn't great but what a fantastic house we had the privilege to enjoy, a really sensitive renovation and furnished with a touch of class. Eve spent the entire journey home lamenting that she wanted to go back to the "new house" what a disappointment for her when she discovered we were back in the old house ! Anyway guys keep doing what you are doing , it's a fantastic experience and we're really looking forward to getting back there hopefully for a bit longer next time. Take care, Aislinn, leo , Eve & Hugh xxxx

  • Each October, I plan a weekend trip with my family. Usually we go on a city break in Europe, but this year, as I'm expecting a baby, we decided to do a staycation. We wanted somewhere charming with enough space for two couples and my mom where we could unwind, and Craigmyle Cottage delivered exactly that. Set in the rural village of Whitegate, Co Clare, this period coach house is bursting with character ... as are its owners, Carole and Kevin. Communication with Carole was very easy and she offered plenty of tips on things to do and recommendations for restaurants. She and Kevin couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The homemade rhubarb tart Carole left for us in the kitchen was an extra bonus! They live next door in Williamstadt House so are on hand should you need help with anything. The cottage is just so warm and cosy and filled with quirky little touches and unique pieces. It is tastefully decorated and well equipped and much bigger than we expected. Everyone had their own space to relax, and equally the open plan kitchen/dining/living area was perfect for hanging out as a group. It has thermostat heating as well as a stove, which we lit both nights. There is Sky TV, Netflix and WiFi. In the stables across the courtyard are hens (who provide eggs for breakfast), ducks and a couple of dogs plus their two donkeys can been seen and fed in the field at the back of the cottage. The kitchen facilities were great with everything you could need. We cooked dinner the first night and breakfast each morning. For dinner the second night we went to the Boathouse Restaurant on the approach to Killaloe - about a 25 min drive. The food and service were excellent. If you wish to explore the area a car is definitely required. We took a lovely 1-hour cruise on the lake with Killaloe River Cruises. It's a cosy little boat with a bar/lounge and open top deck. We also visited the farmer's market in Killaloe on Sunday. Overall, we had a truly enjoyable experience at Craigmyle Cottage. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking to escape the distractions of everyday life.

    Jenny2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Carole and Kevin were excellent hosts. Their country property surrounded by farm land and near Lough Derg was beautiful, comfortable and welcoming. Carole gave very helpful advice about places to visit and Kevin was quick to offer a cup of coffee or glass of whiskey, along with lively conversation. We were sad to leave and look forward to returning one day.

  • The Lakeview house was the perfect stay for our family trip to Ireland. The house is huge with lots of space for the 7 adults in our group. The view of the lake was incredible, and the house had everything you could possibly need. It was warm, cosy and relaxing - the perfect getaway!Odharnait was also an amazing host, she kept in touch in the run up with lots of helpful hints, tips and suggestions and made the whole process very simple and smooth. We would love to come back again soon!

  • What a stunning home! Beautiful architecture, amazing setting and a warm and welcoming host. The home was perfect for an extended family weekend away, set up perfectly for ages 6 months to 73 years! Everything we could have wanted was there and presented perfectly. And the view! Wow! Thank you Odharnait and Kevin

    Leigh2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • This house is really fantastic. It's got 4 spacious rooms, many options for communal spaces to eat and hang out. The place is modern, with really nice finishes. The description lets you know that there is no Wifi, and for us that was great. It meant that we used the pool table and spent more time talking instead of on our devices. The views out the windows of Lough Derg are fabulous. Odharnait is really easy to deal with, and very accommodating. This place is a no brainer, just book.

    Shane2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Photos can't do this place justice! Such a lovely location for the first  leg of our Irish vacation. The house offers everything a family with young kids needs including toys, pack & plays, and baby-proofing gear. We had a slight issue with a blown fuse & no hot water, but Odharnait responded promptly and sent her cleaning woman over to address the problem. My only wish is that they provided wifi, but if you're looking to  relax & unplug this is the perfect location!

    Katie2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to wake up in the beauty of Ireland, look now further! This home was perfect for our family trip including two small children. The high chair, baby gates, and house full of toys made the home a wonderful place to come back to each night for the kids. A great central location in Ireland to drive to all the must sees (limerick, Galway, cliffs of moher). It truly felt like home for the time we were there.

    Lauren2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Odharnait and Kevin's place was an amazing base for our Halloween holiday. The house and amenities were on point and the house was kitted out with everything we could want or need. The location is stunning overlooking Lough Derg close to hill walking routes and picturesque villages. Odharnait was a wonderful host and responded well to our requests. i would heartily recommend her house for any Irish holiday

  • Beautiful house in such a scenic setting overlooking Lough Derg. The location is quite remote so very peaceful and tranquil. Lots of lovely walks nearby and a trip into Killaloe or to Garrykennedy for a pint and food in Larkins is highly recommended. We had a large group of 5 adults and 6 kids and the house was still very spacious for us, also very well equipped kitchen, lots of kids toys and a good selection of books and DVD's, Fr. Ted was a big hit! Would highly recommend for a trip to this beautiful part of the country.

  • Great spot for a group, lots of space and plenty of bathrooms. So close to the Lough where there was a lovely place for food, recommended to us by James. The hospitality was great and we all enjoyed our time in the apartment, the bar downstairs and the picturesque village nearby, Garrykennedy.

    Jennifer2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at James’ apartment for one night while driving across Ireland and it was great. As others have mentioned, James is a great host and his property is large, clean, spacious and above a pub. We had an evening meal at Larkins pub down by the lake which was perfect (the food is delicious and we recommend the fish chowder). Even though there were just the two of us, I can imagine that the property is ideal for large groups as there are five rooms and a large dining table in a well-sized kitchen which gives guests the option to stay in and cook for themselves. In the lounge, there’s a log burner for extra warmth and cosiness. The room we stayed in had an en-suite and the bed was very comfortable. We highly recommended this place as a great place to stay if you’re looking for accommodation around Lough Derg. After dinner last night, we had the pleasure of spending a few hours in the pub downstairs where there’s a pool table and several darts boards. It was a good stay and we would certainly stay again if we’re ever in the area again.

  • It's a lovely, spacious and comfortable house with an outstanding view of Lough Derg. It's a little off the beaten track but that's part of the charm of the place. If you use the Eircode and follow the directions on Google maps to get there you'll have no trouble finding the house. Cliodhna's is a lovely, welcoming hostess with a fun sense of humour. She plays the fiddle too. If I can arrange it, I'll be going back.
