Places to stay in Carisbrook
Pretty Cottage, built in c.1880, lies in the historic gold fields town of Talbot. Lovingly restored with period features, the cottage sits just a short distance from the centre of the town. The town boasts a monthly Craft and Farmers' Market, an award winning Provedore and Eatery, an observatory, pub, book store, vintage shops, post office/general store and is close to the Pyrennees and other beautiful wine producing areas. Your stay includes a full breakfast to cook and eat at your leisure.
Pretty Cottage is approximately 140 years old. It is a small and cosy cottage that has two bedrooms, a laundry facility, a full kitchen, a bathroom with a step-in shower, bath and spa, a lovely generously sized garden and spacious outdoor entertaining areas. The main bedroom boasts a large open fireplace, ideal for brisk winters and romantic nights. The second bedroom has French doors that lead out onto its own private deck and garden, with two chairs and a table. The laundry features a sink, washing machine and vented clothes dryer together with washing detergents, complimentary for your stay together with a large fold-down washing line located outside. The kitchen is fully self-contained with quality pots and pans, utensils, a large pantry cupboard and cleaning products under the sink. Quality Sheridan linen and towels, cutlery, crockery and glassware is also available for guests to use. A full English breakfast is provided for self catering together with a Nespresso coffee machine, complimentary coffee pods and a selection of Twinings tea sachets and loose leaf tea. Cooking essentials such as olive oil, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, soy sauce and some spices/herbs are also available for your use. One of the spacious outdoor entertainment areas features a market umbrella, table and chairs, the other is a roofed and decked area just outside the kitchen door, overlooking the cottage's beautiful English garden, and is a great space to relax with a wine or two. 🔑🔑🔑 SELF CHECK-IN/OUT 🗝🗝🗝 The cottage operates on a self-check-in/check-out basis (secure lockbox). The code and location for the lockbox will be sent via Airbnb at least one day prior to arriving. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out is 1.00. I am flexible with the check-in/out times, providing there are no back-to-back bookings. 📡📡📡 WIFI 📡📡 PLEASE NOTE : TELSTRA is the ONLY carrier that works, albeit sporadically, in Talbot. As of 13 December 2019, Telstra Wifi is included. A smart TV, G00gle Chromecast, DVD player, HDMI cable, Sony bluetooth music system together with a selection of DVDs and books are also provided for your use and leisure. As of 25 February Netflix is also included. 🚘🚗🚙 PARKING 🏍🚎🛵 There is no parking on the property, but off street parking is plentiful EXCEPT on market days (third Sunday of every month), so please park in Chapman Lane, located behind Pretty Cottage, where a gate leads into the back garden from the lane. The gate requires a very hard push/pull (depending on the weather) to open and close. There are also two umbrellas provided for guests' use, on rainy days, and these are located at the entrance of the cottage.
Talbot is now a quiet old gold mining town of approximately 400 people. During the Gold Rush, it is estimated that Talbot's population was upward of 30,000 people, and 100 hotels! According to local historians, Pretty Cottage's site was once a 'tent pub' and a few artefacts were discovered when digging garden beds within the back garden. These items of interest are housed in the drop-down-desk inside the cottage for your perusal. 🏨⛪️🌅 THE TOWN 🏡🏘🏦 Talbot now boasts a multiple award-winning 🥇 Provedore and Eatery that is open from Thursday through to Sunday for breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas and lunches, and dinner every Saturday night. We advise pre-booking a meal. Talbot’s Court House Hotel/pub run by Reiny and Barry, also serve delicious dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and is a vibrant place to be when busy, so a visit is highly recommended and pre-booking is also advised. Pretty Cottage is also mentioned in Narenna Bloomfield’s article in the ‘Daylesford Life Macedon, Autumn 2020, Volume 3, Issue 1, supplement located in The Age newspaper on Saturday 15 February 2020. https://daylesfordmacedonlife.com.au/stories/food-wine/taste-of-talbot#.XkTPtgb7Owg.facebook The town also prides itself in the following:- 1 - the oldest running post office/milk bar in Victoria run be Denise & Ross; 2 - an observatory for space enthusiasts (weather permitting) run by Robert; 3 - a stunning book shop, ‘Slightly Bent Books’, run by Helen; 4 - a couple of vintage shops - one in Chesterfield House and the other next door to Slightly Bent Books shop; 5 - a museum (open on certain days); 6 - a clean outdoor swimming pool (open only in summer when the weather forecast is above 25 degrees); 7 - the original railway station - now a plant nursery/bric-a-brac space - opened to the public and run by Ralph; 8 - the Amherst Vineyard, famous for its beautiful local wines, run by Luke Jones; 9 - the Possum Gully Art Gallery, run by Trish - about a 20 min drive from Talbot; 10 - Felix Ceramics (within the township), run by Belinda; 11 - Stuff ‘n Nonsense (behind the Provedore); 12 - Rosy’s Red Corridor Gallery (famous for her hand knitted quirky teapots and covers); 13 - ‘Barefoot Annie’ (vintage clothing) run by Annie; and 14 - the Aboriginal Maternity tree (allegedly 700 years old) is also nearby. 15. The Chinese baths, off Possum Gully Road, Amherst. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.goldfieldsguide.com.au/explore-location/264/19th-century-chinese-baths/&ved=2ahUKEwi66_ff_PPnAhXilEsFHeXAAe4QFjABegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw0nFo4AcW5dtKICg1XxoT9n&cshid=1582883581011 Talbot is also located within an hour’s drive to Victoria’s famous Pyrenees wine region. Vineyards such as DogRock, Redbank, Summerhill, Taltarnie and Dalwhinnie are a few that come to mind. 🚌🚌🚌 PUBLIC TRANSPORT 🚈🚈🚈 The new Talbot railway station is fully operable and usually runs twice a day (week days) from Maryborough to Ballarat and back. There is also a bus service with two bus stops - one near Chesterfield House and the other outside the old railway station. However, both train and bus services need daily checking on V/Line due to regular maintenance. 🥤☕️🍽 MARKETS 🌽🥕🥒 The Craft and Farmers' market is held on the third Sunday of every month and draws approximately 3000 people. Here you will find anything from fresh farm produce to handmade goods such as hand bags (made by Ingrid), hand made soaps, live entertainment, bric-a-brac, craft items, quality nursery plants and plenty of food and coffee. ⛏💰 GOLD FOSSICKING 💰⛏ Fossicking for gold is also a popular recreation and enjoyed by many gold-detecting enthusiasts. The world's largest gold nugget, the 'Welcome Stranger' was found 150 years ago in Moliagul (approximately a 45 minute drive away from Talbot)! So bring a metal detector down - you never know what you may find! Two gold-fossicking booklets are also provided for use, but remain the property of the cottage. 🧖‍♀️ SPA/Masseurs 🧖‍♂️ Maryborough (a 10 min drive from Talbot) has a masseur, but does not offer a mobile facility. However should you require a mobile masseur, I can organise this should the masseur be available. Daylesford (a 40-45 min drive from Talbot) offers both, spas and masseurs.
  • We had a pleasant stay in this beautiful cottage. Such a wonderful place to wind down and take a break from all the craziness of living in a busy city. It had all the amenities required to just stay in and relax. The back garden was very nice and I really enjoyed sitting there and reading on the deck facing the garden. I hope I get the chance to go back soon.

  • My mother and I stayed at Pretty Cottage for a mother-daughter getaway. Upon stepping into Pretty Cottage we were greeted with beautiful scents of lemon myrtle and stylish furnishings/decor. The amenities including breakfast ingredients, toiletries and linens were all very much appreciated. We were lucky enough to enjoy the Talbot Market right at our doorstep during our stay, which definitely one of the best markets we've been to thus far. The cottage has all the luxury of a five star hotel, nestled in the quiet town of Talbot. We really couldn't fault our experience in Talbot, Gina was quick to respond and has provided a beautiful and warm cottage experience with all the creature comforts you could hope for. Pretty Cottage really is a credit to you Gina, we will be back!

A little piece of history, set on 4 acre surrounded by Green Gully creek & tucked under the Sandon ridge. The original stone dwelling (circa 1853) was running as the Sandon Tavern until around 1910, the second dwelling (studio) built approximately 15 years ago has a beautiful large living room with fire place, entertaining courtyard with pizza oven & two beautiful bedrooms. It is the perfect weekend get-away to relax & explore the local surrounds of Castlemaine, Daylesford & Maldon.
Ross and I live on the property in the (main cottage) however we are often out and about. If we are home, feel free to knock on the door to say hello or wave as we wander by. In the guest house we have two queen size beds with bedding & towels provided. We have a lovely outdoor court yard for you to enjoy. The space does not have a full kitchen, however we have a kitchenette with microwave, toaster, kettle, electric stove, fridge and in the courtyard we also have a dishwasher along side a pizza oven. We've tried to make it as user friendly as possible. The house has a large fire place and a split system for both heating and cooling needs. Lastly there is limited phone reception, generally we can get enough to make a call or send a text when we are in the paddock however we can not guarantee this as it's always changing. We have WiFi set up for you to be able to use while you are here, so you can still communicate with the wider world over internet based apps. We also have free to air TV, with both Netflix & Stan available and a speaker to play your own music through. If you have children please let us know if you require a port-a-cot or children's mattress - we are happy for children to stay however we have not child proofed the house. Unfortunately our facilities do not currently accommodate wheel chair access. If you have any special requirements/ requests please get in touch with us directly to discuss.
We are located in Sandon which is about a 5 minute drive to our local town of Newstead. Newstead is a small little town which has a pub, two cute little Cafes one called Dig, the other Blackbird, small IGA & bottle shop. Castlemaine is just under a 20 minute drive, with many fantastic things to do including enjoying great cafes/restaurants, exploring the vintage Mill or checking out some local art galleries. There are also fantastic bike trails and walks to explore around the region and many great pubs with live music over the weekend. We are also located just under 25 minutes to Daylesford, Daylesford is known for its amazing day spa's, food and beautiful surrounds. We are more then happy to provide recommendations of things for you to do in the local area, just let us know what your interests are and we can send you a list of activities.
  • Ruby and Ross have a lovely retreat close to Castlemaine, Newstead, Trentham and Daylesford. We enjoyed watching the sunset out the back, netflix inside and cooking pizza's in the court yard. We would love to return one day perhaps with some friends.

    Chris2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This gem is a very special place. A perfect country getaway with all the thoughtful touches. Plenty of places to sit and read, watch the sunset over the hills, in your private courtyard with pizza oven... it’s such a unique experience as the character of the building and styling really bring the whole county feeling to life. Great central spot to explore all surroundings - Maldon Castlemaine Daylesford Hepburn etc. This wholesome weekend away is something we will never forget !

    Samantha2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place is magical, plus Ruby & Ross are great hosts. Had a lovely stay and look forward to returning anytime soon.

  • This is a very special and poetic getaway in rural Victoria. The accommodation is stunning, and beautiful. It’s an artist and creatives paradise - quite, poetic and perfect! With lovely small touches including flowers, a welcome note and all the culinary and creative inspiration you could want at hand. We also loved how environmentally conscious Ruby and Ross are, which is reflected in the recycled furniture, water measures and social responsibility (by way of product selection) that supported our stay. Loved everything about this studio 🙌

    Sim2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Ruby’s place is a relaxing gorgeous little place with atmosphere, courtyard is a great entertaining area if you bring friends. It is a great base to check out all the markets and vintage antique shops. Both Ruby and her partner are very easy going hosts. Which goes with the relaxed environment. I would highly recommend.

After 10 years operating our B&B at the Romantic Vineyard near Talbot, we have moved to Carisbrook and opened our new accommodation! "On the Creek". We are situated on 4 acres of land along the Deep Creek nature trail. Your guest house is private and has a lounge room, dining area with an old English pub table, small kitchen, for light food preparation, 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with a double bed), private shower and bathroom and free wi-fi .
We have easy access to many of the quaint rural towns in the Goldfields of Victoria. We are just 30 meters off the Pyrenees highway on the road to Maryborough, Maldon, Castlemaine, and Bendigo. We are just 100 meters to the nature trail along the Deep Creek which runs for a kilometer. It is a beautiful walk under the big river red gum trees at any time of the day. Great dining at the local pub. In the morning you can walk to the bakery or Post Office Cafe. There is a small grocery store just 400 meters away.
Carisbrook is a quiet and a very pretty community. There are many historical buildings and landmarks in our town. We have the natural trail running along the creek where platypus and other wildlife are often sighted. There are many signs describing the different birds, animals and fauna in the area. There is a picnic area and playground for kids on the trail.
  • Renee and David were lovely hosts, very clean and accomodating

    Simon2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • My family had a great time at Renée & Dave’s cottage. The cottage was well equipped and clean. They were gracious and hospitable hosts - even had the time to invite us to dinner - most kind of them. It was interesting to hear of Dave’s research and work with Australian animals, particularly koalas, and Renée’s work at the radio station. They were very helpful in informing us of facilities and attractions around the area. We would love to stay with them again. Your kind hospitality was very much appreciated Renée & Dave. Thank you kindly. Anthony, Clare & Thérèse

    Lin2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Renee and Dave’s place is great, quiet and central to carisbrook. They accommodated our late arrival and early departure giving us a rundown on all the Amenities their humble accommodation provides. Highly recommended!

The Newstead Haven is the perfect place to either relax and unwind or a wonderful space to entertain friends. The decking area is definitely the star attraction of the property with comfortable seating area, BBQ, outdoor table, lounge chairs and drinks fridge.
  • This is a magic home from home and our second stay here. Sarah is a great host and has spent a lot of time attending to every detail and facility in the spacious accommodation. Evenings can be wasted away in the huge outside entertainment area, complete with BBQ and astonishing sunsets. And the occasional kangaroo may drop in. Newstead is a tiny, quintessential Australian township just a short walk from Sarah's place. A short drive away puts you into Castlemaine, Daylesford etc. if you want the bigger picture. A great place to relax and enjoy serenity.

    Barry & Rhonda2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place. It was perfect for our group of five and Sarah was always quick to respond to us when we needed and was nothing but lovely.

    Lucy2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing and family friendly place for a quiet getaway. Our family and dog loved the thoughtful touches and time away from the busy everyday life. The property is huge and safely fenced so your dog will have plenty of space to roam and run around in. We loved the CD player outside on the decking where we could listen to soft jazz music (there’s a whole stack of CDs and movies in one of the bedrooms) while chatting on the couch. My husband and I also loved sitting on the two chairs around the other side of the decking to gaze at the night sky/stars. The dining table can be pulled out to accommodate 6 people. Please note that this property is further out from town and does not have fast wifi or phone connection, which I loved as it forces you to spend time together with your family rather than being glued to the screen. I now have fond memories of us as a family spending quality time together in this quaint cottage.

  • What a lovely and affordable way to enjoy a romantic escape to a vineyard! Such comfortable accommodation, a huge lush bed and all the amenities you need to enjoy yourself out in the country. The breakfast provisions are particularly generous and what better way to enjoy them than sitting out on your private deck staring down rows of vines under a huge sky. Talbot and the surrounding area is rich with culinary adventure, the market was a feast and don’t get me started on the wine..! Go ahead and treat yourself.

    Tammy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Debs place was exceptional value for money. The place was private, had everything you needed, and if you run out of wine Neil is happy to pop over with a few top up bottles for a reasonable mates rates price. Our dog had a lot of fun and the verandah has gates on it if you’re worried about your dog wandering off. 10/10 would recommend for a wholesome weekend experience.

    Melissa2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • I had the most wonderful stay at Deb’s place! The view from the balcony is just lovely & there are so many beautiful birds. A most peaceful spot, & make sure to try their wine too- it’s delicious!

  • Very nice venue with country views. Directions to get there were clear and there was someone there to welcome us.

    Denise2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • As return visitors I can’t express how wonderful this place is. Comfortable, clean and the dogs love the property. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

    Tracy2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Deb’s place for two nights and really enjoyed our time. You’d need to go there with the right mind set of switching off the electronics and just enjoy your peace and quiet time in a vineyard . It was clean with nice little touches in every corner . She’s done a great job making you feel at home . The bathroom is outside but the access is all covered area. We cooked there on the bbq the whole time and loved the magical sky at night . We’d go back there again .

    Mani2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at Deb's place. The cottage faces a beautiful view of a nice vineyard and it was a pleasure strolling around and checking out the grape vines. Amenities were great - lots of food made available for breakfast the next day, and the cottage itself was cozy - my parents kept raving about how comfortable the bed was! Deb was a friendly and helpful host and also prepared some useful local information in the folder. Jack the kelpie x was also a gracious host and showed my dog around the vineyard and kept him company. Everyone (including the dog!) had a good time! Step back into history. ‘Welcome Stranger Cottage’ in Maryborough was built in 1890 and is set on a quiet street just minutes from the heart of Maryborough. This quaint three-bedroom miner’s cottage offers you all the comforts of home and is suitable for couples, families and social groups. With a fully-equipped kitchen, fenced backyard and off-street parking, it offers the ideal base to explore the history and cuisine of Victoria's goldfields.
The cosy cottage, where strangers are welcome, can comfortably sleep six; two bedrooms have queen beds, the third two king-singles. A double sofa-bed is situated in a common area should it be required. Guests have access to the whole house and garden. The cottage has ducted cooling for hot weather and a gas fire to keep it snug in winter. While it oozes yesteryear all modern conveniences are provided.
Maryborough is the perfect base to explore the historic goldfields region. Visit the world famous railway station, shop in the busy main street with a variety of retail outlets and eateries or head out for the day to discover the tiny towns developed in the gold rush of the 1800s. Farmers' markets are held nearby every Sunday, boutique wineries are dotted throughout the region and, of course, you can try your hand at prospecting!
  • Our stay here was wonderful, the house is clean, and very close to the town centre and exactly as advertised. Debbie, the host was very thoughtful, she made the booking process very easy for us (we had to make some small changes). She left a welcome note for us, and a few thoughtful little touches around the place which made us feel very comfortable during our stay. Would highly recommend! Thanks Debbie! :)

  • A lovely period home in a good street. Lots to enjoy in the house. Kitchen very well set up. Heating and cooling as needed. Bright bathroom. Only extra needed could be a mirror in the bedrooms?

Blue Wren Cottage, a self-contained 3 bedroom - 2 bathroom house, with a wonderful sheltered veranda, gives you an opportunity to stay on a traditional family farm property, in the heart of the Victorian Goldfields Blue Wren Cottage is in its own garden area to view the day on our 1000 acre farm property in the beautiful and rich Moolort Plains. The farm has been managed by the same family for over 130 years. It is in a separate area of the farmstead and away from The Bluestone Homestead and Creek Cottage which both provide self-contained accommodation for guests, Creek Cottage is listed on Airbnb. Guest not only enjoy their own garden and can take long strolls along a stunning reach of Tullaroop Creek which runs through the property to see wildlife and farming with an environmental focus.
Lochinver is 3 minutes from a friendly country town of Carisbrook with walks, post office cafe, small supermarket and family hotel. Maryborough just 10 minutes away has a brilliant Historic Railway Station and is a friendly country city with great amenities, food venues, bakeries, cafes, shopping and heritage buildings.
  • ‘Lochinver’ homestead is like staying in a piece of Australian history .. a beautiful bluestone estate, set amongst gardens teaming with native flowers and wildlife. Sit on the veranda with a glass of wine, walk around the property to witness some of the most gorgeous landscape you’ll ever see. Everything has been thoughtfully considered, from the large country kitchen, that can cater for large gatherings, to intimate dinners - spacious formal areas, that look like they belong in an architectural digest magazine. We loved our stay, even if it was just for a week.

If your after a peaceful quiet setting, this is the place. It's an owner built house, designed by an Artist for an Artist. It has 6 different spaces to play, eat, sleep, relax, exercise, or just be(URL HIDDEN)Spacious and light, rooms offer views over expansive landscape, toward the magnificent Pyrenees. a perfect place to paint or write
This space is a work in progress, spaces change according to needs, activities, hobbies and energy.
This place is close to weekend market locations, like Clunes and Talbot. Eateries, wineries, bush walks. Just a short drive away. It's far enough away to be away from it all.
  • A great space to relax and enjoy the Victorian countryside.

    Mark2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place was exactly what we needed. An easy get away from the city with everything to make the stay comfortable. A wonderful space to sit and do some reading or writing, do some yoga, or to sit and have a beer watching the landscape and listening to the birds.

    Anna & Luke2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location for people who are tired of the urban lifestyle to have a getaway and meditation. Very private space that you can even just walk around naked worrying the least about being seen by other people. We love especially the windows that open up the picturesque view of the country in front of us. It changed multiple times a day, like a movie. What we enjoyed the most is the very friendly host who recommended a hidden creek where my partner, me, and our dog had a great time. Sheila also responded very fast, mostly within 10 minutes. Highly recommend thus place and we will definitely come back.

    Zoe2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great secluded location, very quiet. Awesome place to just unwind.

    Amil2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place is beautiful and simple in it's design and amenities, everything you need for a nourishing trip away from the city. It's only 10min from the monthly Talbot Market which makes for a perfect getaway weekend. The kitchen is fully equipped, lounge is generous and comfortable, there is space for yoga, a big bath, and two rooms with double beds. Most importantly, the view from the lounge and the bedroom is stunning (if you love the central Victorian landscape which we do!). We enjoyed watched birds fly around and sheep ambling across the paddock over the back fence, the occasional kangaroo, and when the sun went town the vast night sky.

    Lexi2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila's place was exactly what my husband and I needed on a relaxing week away from Melbourne. The location is fantastic, beautifully peaceful, quiet and secluded in the heart of the Victorian historical Goldfields region. There are so many beautiful walks, national and state parks, creeks and waterfalls close by and Maryborough shops and supermarkets have all the amenity you would need about 10 minutes drive from the cottage. Waking up in the cottage every morning was heavenly. I really enjoyed seeing the sheep and birds, kangaroos and other wildlife around the land, the air is fresh and it is peacefully quiet. On walks we were able to see new Australian wildlife that we had never seen, including an Echidna! Sheila's a warm and welcoming host who was very generous in providing tips on what to see in the local area, including a beautiful creek she suggested. The cottage has everything you could need and was very comfortable. Highly recommend!

It was lovely to have a small table and chairs in our room to eat our breakfast. The separate shared lounge area had all the needs for making our breakfast and there is a lovely veranda where I was able to sit in the sun in the afternoon. Very nice indeed. A lovely quiet location in Maryborough and am very happy to recommend Tony’s place. Hope to return

  • My daughter & I enjoyed a wonderful few days at Tony & Anne’s. Our room was large, clean & homely. Nothing was ever too much of an ask. Tony & Anne both made us feel very welcome.

We have a beautiful self contained studio with a small kitchenette, own bathroom, lounge and bedroom. Wonderful outlook and wake in the morning to the call of the kookaburras. Very private and quiet location. Included is a continental breakfast of muesli, toast, and condiments. Located 9km from Castlemaine and a short drive to Daylesford, Mopoke Studio is a wonderful spot to have a quiet break in a country location.
We have a BBQ that guests are welcome to use.
Really close to Castlemaine and the fabulous Guildford General Store and the pub

  • Lovely rustic escape from the stress was all we needed on our trip from Castlemaine to Melbourne area. Amenities we're all there and Bea the dog was a massive plus .

    Alan2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This lives up to expectations and in many areas exceeds them. The welcome was very friendly, milk, bread and cereal were a nice touch and our accommodation was pretty perfect. Definitely not designed to bring kids and you do need transport. Having said that the seclusion, surroundings and bird life was wonderful. For true R& R this spot can’t be beaten. Oh and if sightseeing & shopping is wanted, also plenty of that within easy distance.

    Magdita2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly recommend a stay at this comfortable bnb set in peaceful bush surrounds yet only a short drive from Castlemaine. We spent two nights here and we were impressed that it had everything we needed including a very comfortable king size bed and generous breakfast provisions.

  • Mopoke Cottage is very comfortable and full of added extras that you tend not to get in similar accommodation. A well equipped space and a great breakfast of cereal and toast (and condiments), tea and coffee pod machine. A huge king sized bed, plenty of comfy seating inside and out so you can appreciate the beautiful bush setting and the lovely space in and around the building. We loved it. Thank you.👍😁

Strangways is a little secret country area situated between Daylesford and Castlemaine. The bungalow is on our 20 acre farm. We are pet friendly (Small, well behaved doggies, on approval, as we have horses sheep and chooks). We are close to many fascinating adventures. Doggies are allowed inside. Please never allow pets to chase or frighten any farm animals.
The bungalow is two stories with a spiral staircase, so guests need to be able to manouevre those.
Our nearest little town is Newstead. It has an IGA, a pub, a lovely little restaurant called 'Dig', which is mainly a weekend place, and a general store.
  • We had such a wonderful time at Gilly and Terry’s place. The bungalow has so much character, and the farm is so peaceful. They also provided so many local tips which made our stay so special. We can’t wait to come back again.

    Kalpanee2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place, its a beautiful property, it was super relaxing and we were made to feel so welcome, as was our dog. Lovely hosts and so many lovely little touches. Will be coming back.

  • We loved our stay at Gilly and Terry’s such a shame it was only for one night. Clean, comfortable, peaceful accommodation with great hosts. We look forward to returning again soon to watch another beautiful sunset from the balcony. Thank you :)

  • Peaceful relaxing getaway with generous hosts.

    Philip2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Gilly and Terry are the most incredible hosts you could ever hope to meet. They knew we were celebrating a birthday and had a banner waiting for us in the bungalow along with some fresh eggs and food in the fridge. Their friendliness, kindness and warmth made the stay so incredible, even accomodating our old dog who can be a handful at times. I would recommend this beautiful spot to absolutely anybody without hesitation. The property is beautiful, and the animals everywhere are so special. Thanks Gilly and Terry!

  • Gillian's farm stay is exactly what a farm stay should be. Great scenic walks with farm animals, a country view on the balcony, and fresh food to enjoy. Our dog Murphy had his first night with us at an air bnb and he was safe and secure the whole time.

Communication with Alison was prompt and helpful - we loved the suggestion of the Talbot Provodore and were grateful to be able to use the spa! We’d definitely stay again for a country escape and highly recommend others to do the same.

  • Can’t really get more getaway than that. Firstly, the cabin is much bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a great surprise. Charles was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome and chat. The spa is next level. The cows gave a real show and the view was constantly stunning, even the stars at night. Highly recommended

We loved your little touches that went the extra mile. The bed was extremely comfortable and the modern bathroom just added to the 5 star experience. The beautiful decor, your lavender scented garden and the starry starry night, made it a very memorable stay. We will most definitely be back.

Persimmon is a late 1860s ironmongers shop residence converted into a warm and welcoming one-bedroom abode in the heart of historic Clunes.
In the early 1860's the shop on Fraser Street was erected and used by the owner/occupier as an Iron Merchant and general store for agriculture and leather goods. A rear residence was erected a little later in the late 1860's. The addition of the residence typifies the rebuilding and general upgrading of the area in the late 1860's and early 1870's. The restoration of this historic building has seen original period features kept that provide insight to and a reminder of a time long past. Small and elegant, a focus has been placed on beautiful fabrics and a contemporary period style that comes together to create a special and memorable space. Petite, but perfect, everything you need is here. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge, wood heater, king size bed, and even a claw foot bath, sit in stylish and sophisticated interiors. Views onto an enclosed courtyard give a feeling of being in another time and place. You can relax and really make the most of this charming and quiet getaway, or simply stroll to the main street 50 meters away and peruse the quaint shops, groovy cafes and restaurants, immersed in the history and ambience of this brilliant place. A mecca for movie makers and enthusiasts and home to the Booktown festival, Clunes is rapidly becoming the next little Victorian "hot spot", a must to discover. Stays of longer than 2 nights are available, please contact us to enquire.
The historic township of Clunes is just 90 minutes drive from Melbourne CBD, 40 minutes from Daylesford and Ballarat and 10 minutes to Creswick. This delightful village has some great offerings and attractions. Home to the internationally renowned Clunes Booktown event, it is also host to the monthly Clunes Farmers Market and Makers Market, held the second Sunday of every month. A must visit in town is Quigley & Clarke where you will find great coffee, tasty lunches and fabulous dinners open five days per week. Clunes has a proud gold mining history and today still boasts an original and charming streetscape. It was the first town to find gold back in 1851 and kick-started the gold rush attracting miners from all over the world. It also has been a star of the big screen with blockbusters including `Mad Max', `Ned Kelly' and `Tomorrow when the war began' all filmed here.
  • 100% recommend Persimmon as a mini vacay. It's perfect for 2 people! The scen layout is so cozy and so romantic. The personal touches eg; robes & candles made the place that little bit extra My partner and I will definitely be heading back there as it's definitely a getaway but also a home away from home. Thank you Dayget x

  • Amazing! What can I say! Incredibly cute and cosy space that made you feel right at home in Clunes. Location had you right on the main drag which makes for cruisy strolls to whatever you need. Place was incredibly private with remote gate and space for your car which only contributed to the cosiness. Felt welcomed and looked after, and will definitely be back.

    Jasmine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage. Super charming and well furnished. We loved the garden. Also very comfy bed! The only thing - which is not Bonnie's fault at all - is the bedroom window backs onto the beer garden of the pub next door, which didn't have loud music or anything, just some laughs and conversations.

    Niama2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie's place is in a great location in Castlemaine. As some of the other reviewers have said, it's location right next door to the Bridge Hotel pub means that when a band is playing it is very loud in the house, but as we stayed on a Sunday night the band finished at 5.30pm so this was not an issue for us - a Friday or Saturday might be different though! The cottage is so cute and charming, and in an absolutely cracking location for vintage shopping and a walk around the botanic gardens (just down the street!), and one of the best pub meals we've ever had at the Bridge Hotel next door! We would definitely say here again!

We are happy for you to bring your beloved pooch (but do request that you clean up after them and refrain from them being on the furniture or bed). Plenty of space for your "baby" to run around!! There is a nightly fee of between $10 and $30 depending on the size and number of animals. Please advise if there will be a dog(s) and I will provide the cost before you book. This cost is then sent to you as an extra cost which you will need to approve and pay with your booking. Both food and water bowls will be provided along with bags to clean up after them ( please take care of this). This cost is to cover the extra cleaning, airing and wear and tear on the property. I like to present the cottage to the next guests sparkling clean and smelling fresh. Infants under the age of 24 months are welcome to stay free of charge but will not be catered for. Infants over 24 months or 1 child can be accommodated and either a porta cot with linen or a single inflatable mattress will be provided with linen and breakfast provisions. There is of course a charge for this. Breakfast is included in your booking and where practical and possible the produce will be either home made or local. We know that being rural doesn’t mean that you have to “rough it” and not have the comforts of home - the cottage is furnished and equipped accordingly There is a kitchenette which will meet all your needs including an electric fry pan, sandwich press, toaster, microwave and coffee machine. The new screened deck has been completed which offers a lovely spot to enjoy your morning cuppa or take advantage of the gas BBQ. The living / meals area has a TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs to watch from the comfortable seating.
Sandon is in a gorgeous rural area located in the Central Northern Goldfields of Victoria. Newstead is a 5 minute drive or very pleasant 7 km cycle away and boasts a pub, a small supermarket and a decent coffee and selection of cakes and lunches at Dig Cafe. The new Blackbird cafe is now open Wednesday to Sunday and offers an interesting menu and very good coffee! Recently a couple of retail shops have opened which offer a selection of eco and upmarket goodies. Great for any forgotten gifts! Daylesford is approx 32 km and Castlemaine approx 25 kms away. The roads are well maintained, clearly signposted and safe for both cyclists and drivers. Maldon, Creswick, Clunes, Talbot, Hepburn Springs and Maryborough are also a short drive away. For the fishermen or women amongst you the Cairn Curran reservoir is also in the area.
  • Lynn is a very frendly host with a beautiful property on a nice country setting. The cottage is small but homely with nice touches from Lynn including providing homemade breakfast. The property is just off the road and easy to find with Newstead a five minute drive away. We definitely recommend Lynns place for a quiet getaway from the City.

  • Providence Cottage was the perfect place to break our journey and unwind. We ate our BBQ dinner on the back deck to the sounds of the Australian bush at sunset, slept in a spacious and very comfy bed, and enjoyed fresh fruit, muffins (and other nice things!) for breakfast with the compliments of our excellent 'friendly and nothing too much trouble' host Lynn. If we travel this way again we would certainly spend another night in this peaceful spot. Thank you so much :)

  • Great country get away, Lynn was very helpful and the place was very clean.

Set on 300 acres, the cottage overlooks our native forest, grasslands and Mt Kooroocheang. Moorakyle Retreat is a relaxing, stylish and comfortable getaway. The cottage is fully self contained and set apart from the main house. Filled with natural light, modern and well appointed with a continental plant based breakfast supplied for your first morning. We are just 15 minutes from Daylesford and touring distance for all that the lovely central highlands can offer.
A deep veranda overlooks our creek, a lovely dam, and the native forest beyond. Our rescue animals are nearby and most evenings the kangaroos will come out of the forest to graze. The cottage is filled with light from tall casement windows and french doors, set up for your comfort and enjoyment. The kitchen is fully equipped, including basic provisions. Sleep in a wonderfully comfortable king size bed with quality bedding and linen. There is a sofa bed available on request (surcharge of $50 per stay.) Please advise on booking if you require the sofa bed.
We love where we live! We are close to many beautiful areas to explore, while being secluded. On clear nights the stars are intense. We can see the skies all around, the mountains and hills, the forests and waterways. Nearby is a local, family run winery and organic vegetable farm and a fantastic local pub. Daylesford and the surrounding hamlets offer a vast array of restaurants, cafes, galleries, local artisans, spa treatments, markets, festivals and events most weekends. There are lovely lakes and gardens to visit, walking trails, cycle rides, wineries to visit as well as a local cidery! Within close touring distance is Castlemaine, Maldon, Woodend, Macedon, Trentham, and Ballarat, all offering so much to see and do you will have trouble choosing. Or you can stay at home and take in the peace and beauty here.

  • Linda’s property was beautiful. The view over the property from the decking, in the sunshine, was amazing. The kitchen was great for cooking in, with everything we needed. There were also great pubs and wineries close by. We loved our visits from the 2 cats, donkeys, goats, and sheep. The view from that decking was 10/10, we will certainly be back. Thank you again for having us Linda!

    Nick2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a very enjoyable long weekend at Linda's place. We had everything we needed plus more for a very comfortable stay. Beautifully presented cottage with lovely sanctuary, forest and mountain views . Lots of thoughtful touches and extras such as a bottle of organic wine from the local vineyard, fresh olives, fair trade chocolate, plant-based toiletries etc. Quiet, private and serene, yet only 15 minutes drive to Dayelsford. It was heavenly!

    Ruwani2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was a fantastic host, leaving bottles of wine in the fridge, fresh bread and organic spreads on the counter and giving us a warm welcome upon arrival. The cottage is stunning with a fantastic view over the farm. We couldn't have been more comfortable.

Elsie’s Cottage is an original 1960’s Miners Cottage which has been sympathetically renovated to retain it’s original features. It’s set on a large block with plenty of room for kids and pets. We also have a cubby house and swing set. Main Street is at the end of the road, an easy 10 minute stroll. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other has two single beds. There is also a very comfortable queen size sofa bed. All bedding and towels are provided.
  • A beautiful cottage, was the perfect setting for our family Christmas. Very clean with thoughtful touches. Will definitely be visiting again.

Civilised pets are welcome in this cool & bright Apartment. A creative, funky interior & relaxed airy vibe make Vera's stand out guest accomodation. With a lovely shady verandah, eclectic garden & native wildlife; Vera's is just minutes from Daylesford, a lazy stroll to the iconic Palais bar & music venue and a short drive to Lavandula & the historic Hepburn Bathhouse & Mineral Springs. If you're after a comfortable, restful space with a difference... see you @ Vera's Apartment ;)
Vera's Apartment is a fully self contained, private accommodation space, occupying the front half of an original miner's cottage. Located in the historic gold mining village of Old Hepburn, this property was once home to a joss house in the Chinese Quarter. Today it has been transformed into a funky & fully self contained living space for those who appreciate diversity & the arts. Vera's Apartment has a separate bathroom, bedroom (with handcrafted Queen bed) and combined kitchen/living area, which includes a TV and bluetooth music speaker. The kitchen has a full size oven & gas stovetop, with all the pots, pans & utensils you need to stock up with fresh veg from the Farmer's Market and cook yourselves a feast. Situated next to Breakneck Gorge, Vera's has lovely views across the North East, abundant birdlife & kangaroos, who visit in the evening. In close proximity to bush walking tracks, the Hepburn football oval and bushland, Vera's is the perfect escape for a couple or friends. A single mattress can be supplied if needed. Vera's Apartment is thoroughly vacuumed, mopped and cleaned after each stay. All surfaces are wiped down and fresh bedding is provided, along with fresh manchester, kitchen sponges, bin liners & soap. Both the feel & style of Vera's is Unique. No frilly doilies or salmon pink walls here! Just a relaxed, creative & comfortable vibe with a funky & quirky fit out. On check in, a couple from Melbourne once remarked 'We were in a shop & mentioned to the retail assistant we were visiting Hepburn & she said "Are you staying at Vera's?" and we laughed & answered "Yes, we are!". She said "There's only 2 places to stay in Hepburn. Vera's is one of them"'.' On check out, another couple mentioned they were both architects from Sydney & that they LOVED the style & fit out. "This is by far the best Airbnb we've stayed in" If you're looking to treat yourself & your loved one to a restful break or celebration, why not do so in a unique space which is comfortable, eclectic & provided by an Airbnb Superhost. Come & experience Vera's! :)
Hepburn is a friendly, peaceful and inclusive neighbourhood.

  • Vera's Apartment is a quintessentially beautiful place that exudes warmth, comfort and cosiness. Only a short drive out of Daylesford, Vera's is located in the picturesque Hepburn with its rolling hills, greenery and tranquility. The apartment is roomly, offering a generous open-plan kitchen and living room space with a floating counter for meals and coffee. The bedroom was perfect: it has a warm, welcoming ambience and a very comfortable bed which I felt reluctant leaving. Every room felt carefully considered in its design and practicality. A thoughtful touch were the electric blankets and woollen blankets, which, along with the reliable heater, made the overnight chill bearable (it got so cold!). I really enjoyed sitting out the front, ensconced in a blanket with a cuppa, listening to the birds and reading each morning. Kiera was so approachable and responsive as well — offering food recommendations and stocking a basket full of pamphlets and brochures of what to do in the area. This really helped plan my trip whilst in the area. In conclusion, Vera's Apartment is a wonderful place to stay. Do it. You won't regret it!

Nestled in the Harcourt hills, this studio apartment is perfect for a weekend retreat or country getaway. The studio is set back from the main property, adjacent to the open paddocks of this rural setting. Less than 10 minutes from Castlemaine and a short drive to the mountain bike track, vineyards, orchards and walks, Victoria’s apple capital makes for an idyllic escape. Dine on a seasonal breakfast and choose to either enjoy your seclusion or have a cuppa or meal with the friendly hosts.
The space is a newly renovated studio, complete with small kitchenette (coffees/teas/toast), cosy queen bed and gorgeous outlook. There’s a fold out couch for another double bed option. Relax outside under the veranda, or stroll around the nearby paddocks (we’re on an acre block, but back onto neighbouring pasture). The studio is part of a small regenerative property project. We’re re-planting trees, growing veggies, nurturing chickens and reviving the nearby creek.
The Harcourt valley is Victoria’s apple growing center. Explore the fruit orchards, enjoy wine tasting and lunch at premier vineyards, relax on scenic Mt Alexander or picnic at Harcourt’s Oak Forest. For more adventure, Harcourt’s new La Larr Ba Guawa mountain bike park has some of the best trails in the state and is a short ride from the property. Historic Castlemaine is 10 minutes down the road. Enjoy the food, galleries and parks of Victoria’s gold country.
