Sunny Days, Sandy Toes NJ

This was the perfect home for our family vacation. With only a five minute walk to settle down on the beach, to the cozy quarters with plenty of room for 8 of us, I would highly recommend Ken’s place! From the time we booked our trip to the time we headed back home, Ken was extremely responsive to all of our questions, and gave us many local tips and recommendations. We can’t wait to return!

Jersey Shore Beach House

CathyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved our week stay in the off season. Excellent location right against the beach dunes at the end of a dead end street. There were only 2 of us but the house can easily accommodate 8 with the 4 bedrooms. It has a new fridge and nessary supplies. Tim was there when we checked in. He explained how the heat and AC, if we needed it, worked. He was very responsive with follow up questions. Thank you Tim! We are already planning to stay again next year. We are planning to return next year!

The Beach Cottage

Perfect Beach Getaway! We had the most amazing stay at this beautiful beach cottage in Lavallette! From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The house is just a short walk to the beach, making it the perfect location for a relaxing getaway. The interior is fresh, clean and spacious, with all the amenities you could need for a beach stay. We especially loved the outdoor patio, which was perfect for morning coffee and evening BBQs. Terence was incredibly responsive and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The little touches, like the beach wagon, chairs. etc., were appreciated. Plus, the local recommendations provided were spot on—we discovered some great eateries/restaurants nearby. Go to Colonial bakery! It’s a must. Overall, this beach house exceeded our expectations in every way. We will keep Terence’s beach cottage in mind for future Lavallette visits! Highly recommend to families looking for a perfect beach retreat.
A light blue beach bungalow is showcased from the street, featuring a neatly arranged exterior with white gravel landscaping. Windows are easily visible, and the main entrance is framed by a small porch. Neighboring homes are present in the background, contributing to a tranquil coastal atmosphere.

Charming Ocean-Block Beach House

BryanRating, 5 stars2 days ago
My Wife, Our two year old Son and Myself just stayed at Lisa’s gorgeous quaint beach house which is literally a three minute walk to the beach. Her house is absolutely beautiful and has that Jersey shore beach vibe to the fullest! The back deck is a great spot to hang out at night plus the grill to cook if you feel like staying home. Otherwise there are so many great restaurants around and everything you need is right nearby! My Family and I already book another stay at Lisa’s in August! We actually said, “This might be Our new Happy Place getaway!” We highly recommend Lisa and her home 1000% and she is the best host who communicates to the fullest! Thank you again Lisa for your hospitality, generosity and peacefulness!!!

Your guide to Ocean Beach

Welcome to Ocean Beach

The Barnegat Peninsula occupies 20 miles of barrier island on New Jersey’s fabled Jersey Shore. It shifts from glittering amusement park rides to old-school Skee-Ball arcades and pristine beaches perfect for swimming and surf-fishing. In the middle of it all is Ocean Beach, a resort community and unincorporated section of Toms River township. After the devastation of 2012’s Hurricane Sandy, locals began elevating classic barracks-style bungalows onto pilings, or replacing them with larger cottages. But the vibe remains the same here: very family friendly.

Ocean Beach marries a cozy atmosphere with a splash of boisterous boardwalk culture. Once you’re done with the mini golf and pedal boats, head south to re-energize at the tranquil Island Beach State Park. Sand dunes and sugar-white coves sprawl 13 miles from Ocean Beach, punctuated by beach heather and prickly pear cactus.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Ocean Beach

The Jersey Shore teems all summer long. If you have the flexibility, wait for families to decamp when kids get back to school. You’ll avoid peak crowds, both on the road and at the seashore. Some beaches remain staffed by lifeguards until mid-to-late September; after that, chillier ocean temperatures send most swimmers scrabbling for wetsuits. That period also brings popular annual events like the Rock the Farm Festival, the Wheels & Wings Auto Show, and the New Jersey Festival of the Sea.

The shoulder seasons still hold plenty of appeal. April, May, September, and October’s typically mild temperatures invite walks, bike rides, kayak trips, and lazy days on the beach. Winter tends to be sleepy and more on the windy, shivery side.

Top things to do in Ocean Beach

Grave of Sinbad the Dog

Salty Atlantic sailors once celebrated a mutt smuggled aboard the U.S. Coast Guard vessel Campbell in 1937. Named Sinbad, the mascot got court-martialed three years later for chasing sheep. The commanding officer found him guilty and busted the draft-beer-loving scamp from First Class Dog to Seaman Pup. But nothing could tarnish Sinbad’s celebrity after a German U-boat almost sank the Campbell in 1943. Visit the heroic hound’s tomb at Barnegat Light Station, a 44-mile drive south from Ocean Beach.

The Paranormal Museum

Quirk it up at this compendium of curiosities in Asbury Park, 21 miles north. Displays include haunted dolls and the alleged skull of the Jersey Devil, a cryptid rumored to haunt the Pine Barrens. The museum also hosts ghost hunts and tours of the area’s haunted history.

Seaside Heights

This livelier town just three miles south has more of the classic Jersey Shore vibe. Add some adrenaline to your getaway with the 97-degree drop and three inversions on the Casino Pier roller coaster. For a more mellow experience, turn to Seaside Heights’ beloved 1910 Dentzel-Looff carousel, which will reopen nearby in mid-to-late 2022.
