We renovated a two-story storehouse built in the Edo period and made it into a guest house. Although it is not spacious, a kitchen with an IH cooking heater is installed on the first floor, while maintaining the atmosphere of a storehouse with its earthen walls and thick beams. The first and second floors are equipped with air conditioning for a comfortable stay. You can experience the sound insulation, summer coolness, and winter warmth unique to a storehouse. If you like, you can enjoy coffee made with freshly ground beans. Sister-gawa Onsen and Ibuki Yakuza-Yu are about 15 minutes away by car. We can provide you with a ticket for Sankawa Onsen (cheaper than the regular price). Please contact us about pick-up and drop-off. There are many tourist spots unique to Nagahama, which has often been the stage of history. Hikone Castle, a National Treasure, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Nagahama Castle, the birthplace of Ishida Mitsunari, one of Japan's leading mountain castles, Otaki, the site of the battle, and others. It is also less than 20 minutes by car to the Sekigahara Battlefield. In addition to the area around Lake Biwa, there are plenty of non-historical attractions such as Japan's oldest railway station building, Nagahama Railway Square, the Yanmar Museum where children can play, and Kurobane Square. You can also enjoy gourmet food such as Omi beef, duck cuisine, grilled mackerel somen, noodles, salad bread, duck, and small ayu.

TABITABI KANOE MITSU

Tabitabi Kanoe Mitsu is a fully renovated, over 100-year-old Kyomachi house, located right next to Rokubo-Ritsu-Ji Temple, and is limited to one group per day. Looking from the entrance, you can see the garden spreading beyond the Yukimi Shoji sliding screen. It features a large palm tree. When you open the window from the living room, the semi-open-air bath directly connected to the garden invites guests to the best healing experience regardless of the season. The bathtub is made of Shigaraki-yaki, produced in a kiln in Shiga Prefecture. The far infrared effect warms the body to the core and makes it difficult for the bath to cool down. Why not relax from the daily grind while enjoying a drink and taking in the beautiful Japanese garden? The Japanese-style room on the second floor features a shoji screen with a Mondrian-style design. The bedroom headboard is designed to resemble the Tateyama mountain range. One of them has two single beds and the other room has a sofa bed for two which makes four people to stay in this house. The house has everything you need to stay comfortably.

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

A traditional dining area features a wooden table surrounded by several wooden chairs. Shoji doors create a connection to an outdoor space, allowing soft natural light to filter in. Dark wooden flooring complements the overall aesthetic of the room.

The location of the hotel is in a place where you can walk to downtown area of Kyoto and famous temples. It is a very convenient place.

A beautiful, cozy cottage that matches the photos. The courtyard was very nice to be able to sit outside for a while. The only thing we found less appealing was the open sleeping areas upstairs, which gave a slightly less private feeling. Please be aware of this if you are traveling with multiple couples. Furthermore, a very nice experience and a top restaurant nearby: Sai Ramen. It's around the corner and it was the best meal we ate in Japan!

Staying in this beautiful home was such a wonderful mix of traditional Japanese living with the comforts of modern living with very easy to use clean kitchen and bathrooms and shower. My family enjoyed the open air bath however I found myself enjoying it every evening we stayed for some time to soak the muscles and hear the sound of someone playing nearby piano and the summer rain. Akane is such a lovely host, offering us help and showing us around the home and local recommendations when we arrived early. She also popped by to swap our towels for fresh ones and was easily reached whenever we needed extra help. I highly recommend staying in this home, you will be submerged into the history of Kyoto mixed with comfortable living ♥️

Such an amazing host! The space is so beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. In the common space, there is a traditional Japanese garden that is stunning. They use a lot of incense too, making it so calming. You also get a traditional Japanese breakfast in the morning! You get your own room/bed, with shared bathroom. We went in the summer and thank God, there was AC in our bedroom. There's also so many family-owned restaurants in the area. We ate at so many hidden gems. All in all, incredibly worth it.

Fantastic stay at Ken House. Sparkling clean. Very warm welcome. Really thought of everything and everything present. A few restaurants and 7/11 within walking distance. Communication with Ken was excellent. Slept wonderfully in the tranquility of the countryside. Lots of nature and rice fields in the area. I would love to come back here sometime! Thank you Ken for a wonderful stay.
