The restoration was particularly difficult due to the state it was in but our craftsman’s determination to bring this Machiya back to its formal glory paid off for Reikaku Yasaka. Shiki’s place was very well suited to the needs of our group of six for six nights. The accommodations were spacious and comfortable, but also trendy - and with a respect for the history of the building. It’s far enough from the city center to be quiet, but close enough to be walkable and close to trains. The place is very stylish and aesthetically pleasing, and we had everything that we required, including laundry facilities. Many thanks for a great stay .

Loved the beautiful tub that looked into a garden - kids really enjoyed using it. Slept comfortably. Having 2 bathrooms was nice. We frequented an awesome bakery in a nearby hotel lobby for breakfast.

This was great for our family of 4 trip (with two kids ages 8 and 11). The location can’t be beat, the Yasaka shrine is right around the corner and tons of amazing restaurants in walking distance. There is a grocery store just a couple of blocks away, so we got some breakfast food, snacks and drinks there. The rooms are very quiet and beds are very comfortable (heated floors were an extra bonus). The bathrooms are very nice as well. This was a very zen place with a traditional feel and modern amenities. Great find!

There are grocery stores within ~20 mins walk downhill to a main street of the area. It was very helpful to have a pick up and drop off to the subway station services by the owner.

Very convenient location in the Arashiyama neighborhood. Only a 6 minute walk to shops, the bamboo forest, or the larger neighborhood train station. There is a smaller train track right behind the house, and we were worried about noise, but it turns out those trains don't run at night. Very responsive owners/ management- it was a great stay.
