Cosy cottage with stunning views - Island of Hoy

JamesRating, 5 stars10 months ago
Linda’s Place is a lovely former family home in a stunning position on the sea front at Longhope on the island of Hoy. It’s a family home with a very comfy, if somewhat old-fashioned vibe. Don’t expect 5 star accommodation but do expect a warm home well supplied with kitchen equipment and welcoming shortbread (very yummy) and fresh milk in the fridge. There are two boxes of toy,s /games for children of all ages plus a large DVD film collection for showing on the TV , Linda supplies bedding and towels. The bathroom has a shower over the bath. For a rural property the water supply water supply is fab but a tip is to stagger bath/shower times as the hot water sometime can run cool if excessive demand is placed on it. There is a garden with a washing line over the road from the cottage. The next door neighbour is a brilliant neighbour and all locals we met were friendly and very helpful. We two stayed in the first week of August 24 finding the village shop to have comprehensive supply.

Cosy camping pod with sea views

JackyRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Very charming and magical place with a beautiful view of the North Sea. They foster a sense of community with the shared kitchen where you can meet fellow travelers if you are inclined. Be aware that you really need to be equipped with your own stuff like towels, soap, shampoo, etc. Bedding is available for the huts if you ask but that's pretty much it. The huts have electric heating for chilly nights. Some small improvements could be made, like having hand towels in the bathroom and maybe a more comfortable mattress on the wood floor. As with all shared spaces, you encounter some who are more considerate than others. And the view of the sea can sometimes be obstructed by camper vans. But overall, this is very worthwhile for the calm and beauty, and there are nifty spots you can walk to nearby. Having a hired car, or your own, makes a stay here much more accessible. Oh, the chickens and the cat wandering around are adorable!

Uninterrupted sea views on NC500

Chandan KumarRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Can’t describe how beautiful the location is . The house is so beautiful and the view is breathtaking . We were welcomed by golden rays of sun and a rainbow . Sarah is the loveliest and warmest person I have ever met . She personally helped us know everything about the house. The kitchen is very well equipped. Kids room was so much fun with colourful lights , they had so much fun. Due to lack of time we couldn’t enjoy the hot tub and many more things like walking down the shore or the area. We just laid down and soaked in as much as we could. Overall this stay was amazing and definitely made our NC500 memorable.

Peedie Cott, Orkney

RobertRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Lounge/kitchen and bathroom downstairs, double bedroom upstairs, neat small garden and deck. Bright and airy, just like in the photos. Admirably clean throughout. Comfortable bed. Welcoming selection of books and games, also nice welcome pack of goodies. All kitchen staples were there, so no need to run to the shops for salt or Fairy liquid! The weather forecast was iffy, so Cathy provided logs and kindling for the log burner. It turned out that they were not needed: the heat pump did its job. We loved the cottage and St Margaret’s Hope, a small sleepy village near the ferry terminal. The cottage might not be suitable for more elderly guests as the stairs up to the bedroom are quite steep. The village might be too small and sleepy for others. Top marks for us though.

The Auld Kitchen

AlanRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The Auld Kitchen was snug, comfortable, and characterful with everything we needed for our break. A great base for the island with easy access to Kirkwall. Sammy was friendly and welcoming, but didn't intrude and was there if we needed anything. We would recommend this property.

Langwell Bothy

JacquiRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Langwell was my wee haven. Very private and my dog loved to sit looking out the front window to the amazing view while I just loved the treat of coffee in bed while looking out to sea. Very clean and warm and well stocked with tea and coffee as well as the full complement of apps in the telly so nice to snuggle in watching a film when Orkney decides to be blustery!! Would really recommend- great value all round!!

Khyber Cottage

KateRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Had a great stay in Clare’s wee cottage, I genuinely can’t think of how it can be improved. Is seems very freshly decorated and all the things that we needed were there including some well thought through extras e.g. extension sockets. Very comfy bed, lovely lounge area, well equipped kitchen (not that we used it much). We had accommodation envy from friends staying elsewhere! We’d definitely return if we ever get the chance, thanks very much.
