The space

Your stay at Carmella includes the services of housekeepers and a chef at breakfast and one other meal, which could be a casual lunch at the al-fresco dining area on the terrace, a re-creation of a romantic dinner from your honeymoon or a barbecue featuring fresh local seafood. The property’s gorgeous mature gardens surround the pool and lounge areas with cypress and palm trees and flowering shrubs, while umbrellas and pergolas provide shade. After the sun sets over the harbor and marina below the villa, step inside for a glass from the wine fridge, a session in the steam room or a cozy evening in front of the fireplace.
The interiors of Carmella pair traditional architecture with contemporary decor for a welcoming, eclectic feel. Classic tile floors and exposed brick walls are ushered into the modern era by a sleek chrome-railed staircase and large glass sliding doors that open the living spaces to the terrace. Slipcovered sofas feel fresh and breezy in the living room, and in the fully equipped kitchen, white counters and black cabinets have high-contrast appeal.
Each of the villa’s five bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom and opens to an outdoor space, whether a terrace or private balcony. The master suite has a king bed and there are two bedrooms with queen beds; older children will want to claim the room with two twin beds or the bedroom with a twin sofa bed.
While it’s tempting to stay in this hilltop retreat and watch the sea from above, making your way down the property’s long drive is well worth it. It’s just a 10-minute walk to beautiful Gouvia Beach, a 1.5-mile drive to the Gouvia marina and a 2-mile drive to the village center. Active guests can reserve a morning or two at the Corfu Tennis Club or Corf Golf Club, while sun-seekers will want to explore the two other beaches within a 3.5-mile drive. Though Gouvia has its own laid-back nightlife, you can also make the 6-mile drive to charming Corfu Town for a livelier scene.
