Andavelo is a beautiful old stone house that is even better than the photos! The room was huge and very comfortable. The location is also great - secluded and peaceful but also very close to main square and areas of Lamu town. From there you can take trips to other islands or to Shela, it is very convenient. The staff were very helpful and friendly - an amazing stay!

A beautiful, peaceful getaway in the heart of Kenya. The perfect place to retreat and be refreshed! The whole team at Tribe takes care of your every need and works to make sure you get the best experience possible. Such amazing meals and atmosphere. It’s a one of a kind experience. Will definitely book again the next time we need a getaway.

We absolutely LOVED Lamu, Shela & BANANA HOUSE! Everything about it was just perfect! We were lucky enough to have a suite with a partial sea view (although it’s not right on the beach - but not far) and it was wonderful sitting out on the terrace watching the boats go by! The staff were superb; really welcoming, friendly & fun! The owners have thought of everything! The breakfasts are yummy - and the Swahili Night superb (so definitely try it if you can) - and it’s only a short away from the sea. There are other places to eat & drink an easy walk away as well. Shops too - so go exploring - and get a boat to the mainland where you can visit more hotels. We recommend a guided tour around Lamu Town too. The guy they organised to take us was simply lovely - and it’s such a fascinating place! I’ve been visiting Kenya for almost 45 of my 50 years - but never Lamu - and now all I can think of is going back! Banana House is great for groups or couples - with yoga & spa treatments available!

Unfortunately our flight was delayed so we did not stay the night, however Sally has been the most amazing person and has helped us with travel plans and been exceptionally flexible and informative throughout our planning. We hope we will have chance to stay at the end of our trip.

Andavelo House - full six-suite house with pool

If you want a more authentic experience to the Lamu Island, then this house gives you just that. It is located right in the Unesco heritage centre of Lamu not far from the Old Town. It has two rooftops that offer a view of the ocean and the surroundings at large. despite being in the heart of the town, It's quiet and private but still centrally located. The house offers a wide variety of books with some impressive history on Lamu and swahili culture. a few historical books on kenya as well as fiction. The house also provides playing cards , a nice touch. The staff is exceptional. In all of Lamu, we couldn't find food better than what we had made by Abu. The variety, the special touches and just the overall delivery and taste. we loved it. Safari is just awesome. whatever excursion we wanted to do, he provided someone and ensured we had a fantastic time. Johnsons sense of humor and work ethic added to amazing experience The house is removed from the hubub of the main street noises but still close enough to be considered comvenient to walk around with ease. we were sad our few days came to an end but we loved every moment spent inside the house and our overall stay in Lamu
