Machiya hotel YANAGI ― Akatsuki ―

A beautiful, cozy cottage that matches the photos. The courtyard was very nice to be able to sit outside for a while. The only thing we found less appealing was the open sleeping areas upstairs, which gave a slightly less private feeling. Please be aware of this if you are traveling with multiple couples. Furthermore, a very nice experience and a top restaurant nearby: Sai Ramen. It's around the corner and it was the best meal we ate in Japan!

The entrance to the guest house is framed by wooden beams and a traditional wooden sign displaying the name 'WARAKU-AN.' Lush greenery lines the pathway, leading to a serene courtyard with subtle stone features, evoking a sense of connection to nature.

The bathroom is large, and the room is acceptable, that the window can't be fully opened, but you can control the light.

Delicate pink flowers are visible against a backdrop of traditional wooden architecture. The blossoms emerge from leafy green branches, while a bamboo screen and warm-toned wooden structure frame the scene. Soft natural light filters through the leaves, creating a serene atmosphere.

I stayed here for 2 days and had a great time. The beds are very comfortable and the shared spaces are very nice and well-maintained. It was fun to socialize with other guests and meet new people. Highly recommend!
Two pieces of stone are displayed on a wooden surface. One stone is wider and flatter, while the other is chunkier and has a rough texture. The wooden support for the larger stone adds a rustic element to the arrangement.

Kiri no Kōbō "霧の工坊" Private Lodge with breakfast

Aki and her husband Tomoyuki have THE BEST AIRBNB I have ever stayed at in my life. Every morning they prepared the most delicious Japanese breakfast I have ever had, and varied the food provided to us based on what fresh vegetables they had in the garden. They were so kind to pick me up/drop me off at the Kameoka station whenever I needed. They even drove me to a wonderful Japanese restaurant & to go see the cherry blossoms with their family, and also to the whetstone museum. They welcomed me as if I was part of their family, I even got to meet their cute son and puppy. The home we stayed in was so clean. The bedding was so comfortable and soft and we got to sleep in a beautiful tatami room upstairs. I loved that the atmosphere was so peaceful and calm, I loved being in the countryside. I slept like a baby each night. The great thing is that it is close enough to Kyoto to take day trips there and come back by public transportation. I can't wait to come back again in the fall season!

Beautiful home! We very much enjoyed spending time relaxing in the back garden area, listening to the rain and drinking tea. Absolutely everything you could want is provided, which was so appreciated because we were traveling light. The home itself is filled with wonderful unique art and was just a pleasure to be in. Highly recommend!
