KAIWA NO SATO This old house is an indigo mansion built in the first year of the Bunsei era (1804) during the heyday of indigo. The main house and the sleeping area (a barn where indigo was stored) have been demolished due to aging, but the historic living room and garden have been preserved to allow guests to experience a little bit of that time, and it is used as a farmhouse inn. In the old days, "Indigofera" grew on the fertile land of the Yoshino River basin in Tokushima Prefecture, bringing great wealth to Tokushima Prefecture (Awa Province). Ancient documents on indigo, including cultural properties, are also available for viewing. Founded in 1957, my grandfather, Eiichi Tanuchi, ran an inn called Aiwasho for the cultural development of Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture. In order to continue to protect its history and traditions, his granddaughter, Kiushuko, reopened the inn under its original name in 2021. Built on the site of Ueno Castle, this inn is a traditional Japanese house with tatami mats on the floor. Please relax in one of the two Japanese-style rooms. The inn is located on a hill overlooking the city of Tanabe, so you can enjoy the morning sun, sunset, and night view. On a calm day, we recommend having tea in a wicker chair on the edge of the hinoki cypress wooden deck, which was made in the image of the moon viewing platform of the Katsura Imperial Villa. The newly installed bath and toilet are spacious and barrier-free, so you can bathe together or use them easily even if you need assistance. We installed popin.aladdin (lighting with projector) in one of the Japanese-style rooms. It projects on the sliding doors You can watch TV, music, movies, etc. Enjoy BGM on YouTube before you go out in the morning. My parents, Kisaku and Shuko Tanai (Japanese), live next to the house, so please let me know if you need anything.

I was a little worried because this Airbnb listing is new, but we’re so thankful that we stayed here. Honestly the pictures don’t do the place justice, it’s so beautiful: a perfect blend of traditional and modern. All the amenities are new and stylish and the hosts couldn’t be kinder. They own a local cafe nearby and I also recommend you spend some time there to enjoy lunch or a coffee, you won’t regret it! I’d also recommend you get some groceries before settling in, because the kitchen is great to prepare some meals in. We were running late, but the host was kind enough to take us to a local grocery store, such great hospitality! The area surrounding is a quiet and peaceful, but it gives you a little taste of the Japanese countryside and gets you away from the “gaijin hordes”. Please come and enjoy a few days here, can’t recommend it highly enough!

There were nine of us, and because the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka was too late, we asked🆘 the boss for help. The boss replied quickly and helped us contact the car to pick us up as soon as we arrived at the station. It was already 12am. Thank you for your help. The next day, the boss came to pick us up from Osaka city in person because we were catching a flight. We were really grateful. The house is in a quiet location, you won't be disturbed; hygiene: spotless; location: about 20 minutes by car from the airport, about 30 minutes by subway, but the owner will be responsible for picking you up at the airport, if you drive yourself, it is highly recommended, great value for money, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery around, very comfortable. Communication: The boss is a Chinese student studying in Japan for many years, the communication is very smooth and the boss is very responsive. Space and hardware: There are four rooms, there is plenty of space in each room, there is also a hall, two toilets, dry and wet, and the kitchen also has corresponding kitchen utensils, microwave, etc., and the boss is fully equipped with toothbrush toiletries, bath towels, slippers, etc., the overall space is very sufficient, the building is private, it will not be disturbed by other people, it smells of home. The garden view is also beautiful, with some flowers and plants planted. I don’t even know how to start – this place is so magical that I almost didn’t want to write a review, just to keep it to myself. Staying here was everything I dreamed of: a traditional Japanese house, nestled deep in the forest on a mountain, surrounded by stunning nature. It’s simple in the most beautiful way – grounding, peaceful, and full of atmosphere. We stayed in two separate houses, both spacious, clean, and incredibly cozy. Sleeping on tatami mats, cooking in the rustic kitchen, grilling at the fire pit – every moment felt special. Our host was warm and welcoming, and even checked in to see if we needed anything. A small note: don’t come with a large car. The narrow mountain road and the steep driveway are a bit of an adventure themselves – but they are absolutely worth it. This place touched us deeply and has become a true place of longing. We’ll definitely come back and stay longer next time. Thank you for sharing this gem with the world.

This place was amazing! It is nestled in the mountain with the most spectacular view. The roads are extremely narrow and mostly single lane to the property, however it was completely worth it for the views, peace and tranquility. The photos don’t do it justice. Would love to come back!

This house is clean, quiet and cozy. It's been a nice experience to stay for two nights. We enjoy the lobster restaurant and the Italian restaurant nearby. It's about 15 minutes walk to the supermarket and main street. Cooking facilities at the house are convenient too. Davide and Mayu are very friendly and responded quickly to our requests. In the second morning, my mother got fever. Davide drove us to the phamacy and hospital. It's really great to have someone who can support us when there's emergency like this. I really recommend this house if you are looking for a place to stay in Shirahama.

This has to be one of my favourite places I’ve stayed on Airbnb! It’s even better than the photos. The drive from Osaka was super enjoyable and incredibly scenic, well worth the drive. Our hosts were so hospitable and kind, very generous with their organic produce and homegrown rice, it felt like such a magical experience. The surrounds were like a fairytale and the home was mega cute, extremely clean and very thoughtful touches. I highly recommend it, would love to go back if I have the opportunity again. Thank you!
