Vacation rentals with lake access in Hidalgo County

I cannot say enough about Peculiar Nest. It is home. The amenities are incredible; the area is peaceful and relaxing; the hosts are welcoming and so supportive. I enjoy every moment there. I highly recommend!

Peculiar Nest was an absolute beautiful oasis. No detail was left out. The Hosts were very down to earth and nice - we sat outside for about an hour and talked about life and all the wonderful things about McAllen. We will definitely stay here again on another trip.

Lois and Isaac are amazing and Peculiar Nest is absolutely lovely! Such a hidden gem. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home and provide a great stay. I highly recommend Peculiar Nest, especially if you're interested in birding.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. The pictures on AirBnB of the grounds and lake looked too good to be true. It was even better than that! It's your own personal wildlife refuge. I came to south Texas for all of the famous birding national refuges, state parks, etc. (which really were amazing!) Yet, I found myself wanting to get back early each night to The Birdhouse on the Rio just to see what I could find. An amazing cast of characters live there and many other guest stars come for a visit! Even if you're not a birder and just enjoy nature, there are more peaceful places to sit outside at The Birdhouse than the inside of most homes. If that's not enough, the house is just about perfect and the owners are so welcoming and thoughtful. That was the best rental at which I've stayed. A huge thank you to the owners for doing their part in providing a natural habitat for all of our feathered and furry friends... and sharing it with us.

WE KEEP COMING BACK! Hosts’ are kind people who make us feel right at home. The property is beautiful, our 6 year old described it as a “rain forest” With thoughtful details this is truly a great place to stay if you want a peaceful getaway.
