Design Cottage Close to Icelandic Countryside & Reykjavik

Step into one of the oldest homes in town, dating from 1884. Curated by the owners of the design studio Reykjavík Trading Co., The Garden Cottage has been completely remodeled to provide a unique feeling, with a lot of the furniture handmade or meticulously crafted and selected from their travels to California, Scandinavia & Mexico. The land behind The Garden Cottage is home to their designed greenhouse, communal garden, chickens and their most recent addition, The Shed which is their workshop / shop where you can visit for a coffee, buy pieces or see their process of making objects. Curated by the owners & designers of Reykjavík Trading Co. (an Icelandic / California homeware company) the Garden Cottage is their first project of creating a home space for guests to experience a unique & cozy feeling while visiting Iceland. The bottom floor of the 1884 built home has been completely remodeled for guests. Everything in the home has been either made by hand by R.T.Co. or selected from their collection of preferred products & appliances. Anthony Bacigalupo & Ýr Káradóttir, the owners of The Garden Cottage, live & work in the separate upper part of the historic home & their R.T.Co. workshop is located in the back of the garden for guests to visit, learn about the pieces being crafted, or just to have a cup of coffee. We wanted to create a place for guests to experience "slow living" & create a special stay. Having designed spaces for hotels, cafes, bars we decided to put our inspiration & collection into this project & build something completely one-of-a-kind in Iceland. The home was built in 1884 & we have been remodeling & bringing back the style it once was but also bringing back the garden & farm style that was once so prominent back in the day. We believe in hospitality to the fullest which sadly doesn't exist anymore in places. Since we live on the property we can answer any questions you have or have you in for a coffee if you need help deciding your journey in Iceland. The cottage is in the oldest part of Hafnarfjörður, a small harbor town. There are great farm-to-table restaurants, bakeries, live music, artist studios and swimming pools nearby. It’s conveniently located across the road from the town’s bus terminal. The house has three stories but is broken into two flats- we live on the upper floors with our children with separate driveway and front door- but we are here for anything you need or to have a coffee in the greenhouse! Our little town can be easily walked around & explored. Shuttle stops for airport & Blue Lagoon are 3 minutes walk next to the ocean & the bus terminal into Reykjavík is close as well.

Fabulous Penthouse Apartment on the main street

This amazing Penthouse apartment is on the top two floors in a relatively new building on Laugavegur, the main shopping street, fully equipped with everything you need for a short or medium-term stay. Downstairs there is a bathroom with a large bathtub and shower, kitchen, a living-room with a dining area and a large window facing south towards Hallgrimskirkja, the main Reykjavik landmark. The bedroom is upstairs along with a balcony providing excellent view to the south over the city centre.

Welcome to my new and modern apartment, it's located , 10-15 minitues from Reykjavik city center. The House was built in 2022 with 6 apartments, mine is on the ground floor, stair with few steps. it is 74 sqm -The living room, kitchen and dining area is in the same section. The bedroom and the bathroom are separated. You can have a look at the set up of the apartment on the photos. The bedroom is with a 160 cm bed and it has room-darkening shades. Washing machine and dryer at the bathroom.

Gunnu Hús by Meðalfellsvatn ( Our lakeside cottage nestles at the foot of Medalfell mountain and the garden leads right down to the lake. The views are spectacular, of the lake and its surrounding mountain scape; it is a place of pure tranquility. It has 3 bedrooms and an open plan kitchen and sitting room. It has a large double bedroom, and small double bedroom and a room with a bunk bed. It is well known and often listed as one of the most scenic and lovely summer cottages in Iceland.

Our stay has been everything we could have wished for. Dadi even came by to say hello and bring a substitute for the tv streamer. He provided us with coffee, fire blocks and nice tips to see and do. The view on the lake is absolutely stunning. Absolutely recommended!

We loved staying at Dagrun’s home. The space and comforts of home made the trip even more enjoyable. Her home is very walkable to downtown Reykjavík and surrounding area. The grandchildren loved walking to the market and were intrigued by how small it was. Her home was close to a great burger and pizza place. I can’t speak highly enough about Dagrun. She was always quick to respond to our questions and very helpful. I feel that a new friend was made! Thanks for a great stay!

A fantastic cabin with breathtaking views. It doesn’t get more relaxing than this! The peaceful environment was perfect for our family to unwind. Also, the location was excellent for exploring many attractions and maximizing our time in Iceland. The cabin was fully equipped and very well thought out for everything needed during our stay. This Airbnb apartment provided a comfortable and spacious stay. Located in a peaceful area of Reykjavik, it offered easy access to the city center. There was a delightful bakery next door, and the lighthouse was just a short walk away. My five-year-old daughter particularly enjoyed the children's room, which was well-stocked with various toys. I would highly recommend this location for your stay in Reykjavik.

L'appartement est occupé par les propriétaires en dehors des périodes de location, ce qui en fait un appartement propre, cozy et fonctionnel. Il est assez bien placé proche de la mer et à 20 minutes à pieds du centre historique. Il est également possible de prendre les transports en commun pour aller en ville et au terminal BSI (Bus station). Nous avons apprécié la communication avec le propriétaire qui nous a bien aidé pour organiser notre séjour. Je recommande vivement cet appartement qui a répondu à toutes nos attentes.

Maria's cabin is out of the way on a small lake. The scenery is beautiful. The cabin had all the necessities and comfortable beds. One bedroom was on the small side, but the main bedroom was large. The only issue was a difference in how America and Icelandic people make their number 1's. I thought the Wi-Fi code had a 7 in it but it was a 1. After I figured that out, the Wi-Fi worked great. :-)

This was the best place we have ever stayed as a family. Sigurdurs place is beautiful with the most stunning view. The house is spacious and very warm and cosy. It is absolute heaven, the perfect escape to the countryside with a chance of seeing the northern lights over the lake. I would definitely recommend Sigurdur’s place to everyone. We stayed a few nights at Helen Inga’s home and had a brilliant time using it as a base to explore the city and the area. Staying in a suburb felt very homely and relaxing. There is an amazing bakery just round the corner and a lovely local pool. It was easy to take a walk or a run along the coast and see the city from a different angle. It was only 10 minutes walk to the busier areas and also easy to use the car we hired. Parking is never a problem. The apartment was clean and warm with plenty of space. Comfy beds! Helen Inga was very helpful when we had any questions. We collected the kids after a few days on a school trip and it was great to be able to do some washing/drying before heading off on our travels. They loved the trampoline, the football area and the piano. Our highlights were hiking up to the Glymur waterfall, skiing at Blafjoll, snorkelling at Silfra, sunset walk to the geothermal stream near Hveragerdi and the lovely fjord side hot pools at Hvammsvik. Highly recommend!
