KAIWA NO SATO This old house is an indigo mansion built in the first year of the Bunsei era (1804) during the heyday of indigo. The main house and the sleeping area (a barn where indigo was stored) have been demolished due to aging, but the historic living room and garden have been preserved to allow guests to experience a little bit of that time, and it is used as a farmhouse inn. In the old days, "Indigofera" grew on the fertile land of the Yoshino River basin in Tokushima Prefecture, bringing great wealth to Tokushima Prefecture (Awa Province). Ancient documents on indigo, including cultural properties, are also available for viewing. There are no street lights, and at night you can see the starry sky. Spending time feeling the mountains with your whole body, which you can see in each season, is an irreplaceable pleasure. It is an old-fashioned house with a magnificent main pillar, earthen walls, and built-in storage, but the first floor is completely covered with cedar boards, giving it a new feel. The water area features a newly built island kitchen and a large wash basin. The bath is a Goemon bath that uses both wood and gas, so you can cook with wood or use hot water. Outside the house, there is a friendly sign cat named Aosuke, who will come up to you if you are outside. It is located about 15 minutes by car from the Ishikari Mountain ropeway, making it easy to get to the mountains.
