Perfect base for 2 friends to explore nearby Dismal Swamp State Park and Merchant’s Mill Pond State Park! Nelisa’s recommendation to check out the brand new coffee shop (32 North Coffeehouse) was spot on and only a 1 minute walk away. The upstairs apartment is in an old house with a beautiful wrap around porch on the main level - perfect for wine in the evening and coffee in the morning (and listening to the chorus of birds).

We loved staying at The Shack! It was well stocked with everything and anything that could possibly be needed. We visited Dismal Swamp, Merchant's Millpond State Park where we learned NC indeed DOES have ALLIGATORS!!! We had lunch at The Nicholson House Restaurant (a beautiful old Victorian), and went up to Edenton to Amberale Sound to see The Roanoake Lighthouse and Waterfront Park then back to The Shack for a nice fire outside to end the night. We were lucky enough to even hear the fenced in Wild Boar sitting around the fire!!! How many people can SAY THAT!!!??? We had a great time and Ralph immediately responded anytime there was a question. Would definitely stay again 💗

Brenda was great, house was pretty clean, no frills but if you’re staying here that’s probably what you want. Was more of a home base for me than a vacation home so I didn’t spend much time there, but the house filled all my needs.

The dome was amazing, very secluded, peaceful, and whimsical. Lots of wild life, we saw deer and a cute family of hogs. Host was super responsive and even checked in on us after a rain storm. Definitely worth booking again.

This was our 3rd stay and as always we really enjoyed our stay! You could ask for a better host and the place is always clean,relaxing and quiet! Boat ramp around the corner and plenty of bird action from the deck.We definitely recommend and will be back!

Great communication with the owner during the entire booking to check out process. Beautiful cottage and the homemade banana nut bread with delicious! I would definitely recommend!

I was very pleased with the home like feeling. The home was thoughtfully arranged and decorated. I will definitely keep your home on a short list of favorites. If I could add something, it would be wine glasses, corkscrew, coffee and creamer. In addition, the uncovered opening to the attic caused the main suite to be very warm. Overall, a gem; thank you so much!!

Beautiful location! Very peaceful and serene. It is located quite a ways from restaurants and shops, so plan accordingly. If you’re looking for a quiet spot on the river, this is it.
