Step back in time to a hilltop house with views across the city through picture windows. Exposed brick and the extensive use of natural wood maintain a mid-century atmosphere, enhanced by period furnishings and gleaming softwood floors throughout. The House Manual provides information about Jack's, as we call our house. We do not host guests with accompanying pets and smoking on any part of the house and property is not acceptable. If these rules are not to your liking then please do not book. Jack's Place is an original 1960's architect designed house. A master bedroom with direct access to the bathroom (en-suite except it is the only one!). The second bedroom features jarrah flooring and exposed brick wall. The living area features a unique view across the City especially at night. Functional kitchen and laundry, air conditioning and heating. The rental terms are for the whole house but if a couple book then it is expected only one bedroom is used. On booking it is best to clarify if both bedrooms are required. If not we do not make up the second bed. Jack's Place is a free standing brick residence with its own car space. There is a walled courtyard and front lawn area/garden (yet to be fully developed ). Cate and I live behind Jack's Place and both properties share a driveway. Naturally the drive must be kept clear at all time. More than happy to be contacted with any questions relating to Ballarat in general, food, wine and things to do. This 1962 house is in Golden Point, an old area in the City of Ballarat, about 125 kilometers west of Melbourne. These days the architecture of the area varies from 1860s dwellings, California bungalows, and modern high-density residences. Ballarat's main street is Sturt St. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre and less to major supermarkets. Parking in town is charged via meter all week. On the edge of the central business district parking is free. Parking around the restaurant area of Armstrong St is difficult. My advice is to walk to dinner and Uber home. Local buses are confusing. Only a few minutes away is The Grapes Hotel, friendly and reliable. Ballarat weather can be variable. I have no control over the weather! We are perched about 375 metres above sea level, cold in Winter and hot in Summer. Summer nights tend to cool down. To keep the house warm and you comfortable, draw the blinds and turn on the heating. There are electric panel heater available in the house. Be very aware that they are not suitable for use when young children are part of the guest party. To cool the house, draw the blinds, close all windows and unnecessary doors and set the cooling for 10C below the outside temperature.

Our house has charm and a nice vibe, guests tell us the house feels homey. We are international travelers with an interest in Ballarat gold history so we have decorated our home accordingly. When making a standard booking for 1 - 2 people, you have access to one bedroom - the main bedroom has a queen bed with sitting area. For an additional fee, there is a second bedroom with a queen bed and the third bedroom off the lounge room has a small double (3/4) bed that can be opened.

Me and my family had a wonderful stay at Claire’s place in Invermay, Ballarat! The home is soooo spacious and very well-suited for a family or singles people, with 2 comfortable bedrooms (Great size beds) and plenty of room to spread out. It was spotlessly clean, quiet, and in a great location—close to everything we needed. Kids had a basketball tournament. And oh boy, we were always looking forward to getting back "Our New Home away from Home :)" The highlight for us was definitely the Morning and evening views. simplybreathtaking and kind of therapeutic. After long days of basketball, the kids absolutely loved winding down with hide and seek (plenty of space in the house) in the evening—it really made the stay extra special. It just felt like out home away from home. Claire was a fantastic host—very understanding and always quick to respond. We felt well looked after from start to finish. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Ballarat!

Felt like being in an oasis whilst only an hour or so out of Melbourne. Susan’s place was a sanctuary the perfect winter escape! The bed was so comfortable, we had a nightly fire, there were birds and kangaroos on the doorstep and the bath was deep and perfect for relaxing. Everything was so well thought out, we had the best stay!

Donna's place is lovely. The house is quite old and a bit cold in the evenings, but electric blankets were provided. Donna was responsive and friendly and made sure we felt welcome, for the price I would definitely recommend.
