Welcome to your home away from home

I was travelling to Angola on business but still a bit intimidated by Luanda's reputation for high prices - 4-star hotels starting at $380, and 2-star at $200 easily. So it was a pleasant surprise to find family-owned Narcisos Guest House on Airbnb for barely more than half that price, and providing the service you'd expect at a more expensive hotel. The room was very comfortable, with AC, hot water, and excellent water pressure. Room was cleaned every day. And since it's more of a guest house than just some random person's home, you feel very comfortable about staying there when in a new African city for the first time. Jandira the manager was especially helpful, becoming my virtual guide for Luanda. I don't speak Portuguese, so she translated phone calls, arranged taxis, and showed me to different parts of the city. She even drove me around the city a bit to do some market research. It's no exaggeration to say I would have been lost without her help. And because it's not in the downtown, there are actually a few nice, affordable places to eat. A Kero "hipermarket" is just a 10 minute walk away, and you see more of the city's character as well. Recommended to anyone looking for a nice experience in Luanda and not wanting to pay through the roof!
