Amani ya Juu

Why locals recommend it

Amani is a garden cafe owned by an American lady who’s lived in Africa most of her life. Their menu includes soups, wraps and sandwiches, plus traditional Kenyan food. There’s also a beautiful shop on site, filled with handmade crafts. It’s dangerous to go there for lunch, because you’ll end up wanting to buy everything. Amani does a good job of blending together Kenyan ingredients with global dishes. A great example are the ugali chips; tortilla-like crisps made from maize flour, the main ingredient in ugali, a staple food in Kenya. It’s a really nice example of Nairobi fusion food.

Local favorite. Find jewelry, housewares and more at this women's cooperative. Shop and support a good cause. There is also a great outdoor cafe in their lovely garden.
