New Lebanon hosts the ruins of the Great Stone Barn, and was the national headquarters for the Shakers in the US. This Shaker site is an extraordinary historic resource in right here in town. It was recognized by the World Monuments Fund as of the 100 most significant historic endangered sites in the world. There isn't a permanent display, but they offer programs and walks during the warm months; check out their website. You'll find a brochure about a self-guided walking tour in our collection of brochures. Or just take a few minutes to drive through to see all the Shaker architecture.

Another Shaker exhibit, on your way to Hancock Village in MA. This is mostly exterior touring and free. The stone barn is largest in the world, awaiting its restoration.
