For History buffs, you can learn about the Gaol’s past, either from a Guide (usually an ex-warder) or with a self-guided audio tour. Tours are open 7 days a week.

Established in 1843, Maitland Gaol ceased operations as a gaol in 1998. Since then it has become famous for its tours which offer insight into Maitland's rich history. Take a tour guided by a former warden, who will teach you all about daily life within the gaol throughout history and its infamous inmates (including Ivan Milat).

Heritage listed historic prison located in the city is really worth a visit. First opened in 1875 and closed in 1998, housing some of Australia's most notorious prisoners. Enquire about their night time tours for something different.

About a 30 minute drive from Medowie you'll find Maitland Gaol. Take a guided tour by an old prison warden and a trip down memory lane. Lots of stories to be told....
